Hass is still very good, but I don't think he has as much impact as when he first burst onto the scene, scary good then.

Matter of opinion G, my thoughts at the start of his career his impact was higher, for me at present he's more of a machine be it a good one, like an even better version of Terrell.

Doubt it. NZs forwards dealt with them somewhat comfortably.
Being big doesn’t always mean being good. That Kiwi pack is Australia’s only real threat in next years WC.

One thing yesterdays game shows us, is that if you want to be a top 4 or top 8 team you need at least one of these beasts in your team, also from Tonga and Australia.
Does Terral or Pole qualify? Probably not.

In the 2025 NRL season, Payne Haas had 3,996 total running metres and averaged 166 running metres per game, making him the leading forward in average metres per game. Terrell's numbers are similar he's an elite forward too.

Different players though- might have similar run metres and playing minutes but Haas has much more impact on a game. I’d trade 10-15 playing minutes of May’s for more aggression and tackle busting runs from him.

yea, which is a crazy good effort on their part.
Sure, NAS, Fischer-harris, Isaiah Paps... Still to hold back what are arguably two of the best props in the game being Papalii and Haas is a massive effort.
Also Tino is apparently eligible for Samoa. He turned down to play for Australia.

When you talk about Haas being robotic then Terrell must also be included, whilst his output is significant he still lacks a true tackle breaking toughness and a scare factor. Hopefully he works on that for 26+.
TDM is quantity over quality.

Did well, solid kicking game, also dug into the line and straightened the attack, had a hand in most of the tries.
Did nothing wrong but also didn't do much. Directed the team well enough. But Tonga were awful whilst Haas and Paulo dominated. He wasn't needed to do a lot.

Some posters are tough to please. I thought Luai had a great game. He lead well from the front. Defended very strongly, controlled and directed his team all game, had a hand in most of the attacking plays and kicked very well. Not sure what else he could have done.
It wasn't really there today. Samoa dominated territory so no need for a long kicking game. He forced the one drop out but again Samoa were preferring to attack rather than force repeat sets.
He did though in fact kick well. Kept Tonga pinned in their own 10m and set up a try for Nanai. But kicking well from 30-50 out with an eternity to place your kick after your forwards win the ruck is the minimum you'd expect from any first grade half. It certainly was not the difference.
I agree with this. He did everything needed of him and not much more he could of done without over playing his role. He just wasn't needed to do much.
