Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If we let Bula go and replace him with Connor Tracey my head would pop, there’s so many better young fullbacks on the market, and isn’t Will Kennedy unsigned still?
Remember,he was top 5 in the Dally M this year before he got injured...and was playing OK, albeit against bottom teams when Dogs were leading the comp
Hes much much more than a journeyman..but not elite. But neither is Bula.Plus he can play several positions
Dogs are allegedly paying CT $500k(but they do make stuff up about $$)..which is pretty good value vs Bulas likely $1mill + per season on a 3 yr term including IM part of the package..which Id like to punt from our club 4ever
Id rather pay this sort of $$ to a proven player like Tracey than the Panthers 4th in line fullback who is in this situation for good reason from good footy judges

I don't think for a second he would be expecting to get a pay rise from us, regardless of what happens between now and round 10 (I think the deadline is, just from memory. Could be way off).

There could be plenty of other stuff happen between now and then that I could see resulting in him abandoning ship. Why would you not wait as insurance against that?

Let's paint a totally unrealistic worst case scenario. Luai struggling for form, 10 straight losses, Marshall fired, Richo died of a heart attack, Latu perennially injured, Pole still struggling, Hunt reaches 130kg, Terrell injured long term, Taylan jailed long term, club struggling financially with media reports questioning if we can afford to pay players.

All Luai had to do was wait a few months and he could have avoided being tied to that for another year. In what situation is signing early the better option for him?

It is so unreasonable to expect him to do so that if he did, sure, most of me would think heck yeah thats the commitment we want from a leader but a part of me would go is this bloke stupid? And he is supposed to be a leader here?
Keep in mind his actual contract with us is under $1 mill and it's 3rd party agreements that take him to 1.2

The reason we signed him is because of the clauses.

If we want them removed then we will have to compensate him for it - and that's completely fair... Negotiation is a two way street. If he loses the flexibility then he needs to be conpensated for it... Give him an extra 100k a year and lock him in.

Indefinitely. Because If I'm Richo I'm talking to other fullbacks not sitting on my hands hoping Bula makes a decision. But until one is signed im continuing to show interest in Bula as well.

Also I wouldn't include Luai in this. He has zero reason to remove his clauses. He has said and done all the right things to suggest he will remain at the club but it would be foolish of him to remove the clauses.
Yeah thats all good for Luai but hes getting paid in THE TOP 10 in the league. Asa club having that kind of money tied up in a player that could leave is BS. He talks abt rebuilding the club he needs to remove the clauses on that kind of money. Like i said im a massive Luai fan and he has done plenty for the club but this year needs to go up a notch, which im expecting him to do but the clauses have to go regardless of coaching staff. We cant be held at ransom. As a club players and coaching need to improve next year its that simple.

Until it is reported anywhere other than here, I just don't believe the first paragraph to be at all true. I've never seen anyone put forth any sort of evidence for it.

Agree with the rest of it. There is absolutely no reason for him to remove any clause. If we want them removed, well then we need to offer something to get rid of them. Not sure why we would when every indications is that he is committed here and reality is no-one is likely to match our offer for him.

Why does he need to? He literally doesn't need to and there is no reason why he would.
When (if) he starts trying to hold us to ransom we can revisit this. We're jumping at shadows about what might happen rather than looking at what will likely happen.
