Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Youve got a good keen eye V.....even if you do day so yourself.....but theres also a chance Craig could do sfa in 26

As for the contracts...theres no rhyme.or reason how on earth is Afoa a development player? I admit I'm not up to speed with all these new deals
He is powerfully built, runs the ball strongly.
I think he has been played out of position as a winger and should be moved back to the centres.

My bad that appears right Will Craig what's he done to deserve a top 30 spot, could that be an error.
Somewhere in our past topic trails it was stated Craig's was the last of the previous regimes horror contracts. Apparently states this year he is guaranteed a top 30 spot but the only good thing is he performs this year or he's out. No contract or guaranteed time 2027.

Very hard to work out the Will Craig Top 30 contract.
I see potential in him more than most and think there is a chance he could improve in leaps and bounds in 2026, but when you consider we dropped him to Ron Massey Cup late last season, why would we then sign him to a Top 30 contract as opposed to a Develolment or Train & Trial deal ?
It makes very little sense, but he’s a home grown South-West Sydney product and I hope he has a successful season in 2026.
was an old sheens deal, suprised they haven’t just paid him out to free up a spot

No, it's really not irrelevant. This club needs to start producing junior talent in waves. It is never, ever going to become competitive by signing first grade players in free agency: that just burns up cap space and creates unbalanced rosters with a few stars and a bunch of dross. We need to be the Panthers or Raiders, not the Titans.

If there are good walk up starters available for reasonable money of course we should sign them. In fact, we have been doing so: Luia, Turuva, May, May, Pearce-Paul. But we also need young talent, roster depth, cheap finds in the rough - all of it. We need to go from having maybe 15 players who can at least hold their own in first grade to 30-plus - and we can't pay 500k plus for all of them.

Agreed, we are never going to beat teams by signing the market.
We will never outspend Easts, let alone the Donkeys.

As you say it's got to be a combination of signings/Juniors/Cheap finds in the rough- aka second chances to fringe players.

That said:
Junior talent has always been very hit n miss. Heck we left our forward pack open for our Junior talent to step up and into position. ... meh. We have relied on this, in that we have depended on our Junior talent to provide us with 3-4 forwards when it can often provide only 1-2 first graders. Would really like our Juniors to fight and earn their way into first grade.

leading to your point "having maybe 15 players who can at least ...[be].. first grade".
Which is right on. 2024 and earlier we had a second rate team with maybe 4 first graders. Our top 17 has improved. Were still struggling to field a first grade side. Which is exactly why we should do what Easts and others do and focus our cap spend on the 17 that take the field.

Yet we need to be getting better value out of our entire top 30 and lower grades. That comes down to coaching... Our training is still an issue and we need to keep toughing up.

Cmon, he's like a smaller version of Luke laulilii. He's very short and not fast, strong or evasive. No ball playing skills. Playing flegg is his ceiling. He's not in the top 50 players at the club currently. Not even close either.

The old regime sure *√"'! the bed when it came to re-signing juniors.

We now have much better juniors secured and there not even on NRL contracts.

We really have to release Craig ASAP. Pay him out and give his spot to someone who earns it. Not paying out tumeth and matamua last year cost us precious depth
we are already still paying part of Sulvians and Batemans' salary for 2026, although I agree it's a wasted spot, we are down around 500k in our salary cap already for 2026, I just say cop it for 2026 and for 2027 we will have more cap space.

Still early days. I reckon the likes of Cam McInnes, Toby Rudolf, Reuben Garrick & Nick Meaney will be a good experienced culture-driving core to build around. Be good if they could secure Bevan French from Wigan too.

They should be allowed to use sign on bonus for 4 players up to 150K each player or allowed some relocation money 20K per player for the first 3 years to go over

Jayden Campbell had a terrific finish to the end of last season. Has developed an excellent kicking game to go with his speed and creativity. Has also developed the organising aspect of his game and he looks a quality half. I wonder if he'll sustain that good form next season, though.

Agreed. It's the last bad contract call we have to live with & it wouldn't be much more than 150K
