Jahream Bula #269

is Paps cooked? losing bula and getting paps I'd be happy it's a gamble but clubs like us need to take gambles
cooked. I'd turn with in - the answer is there.
Bula isn't lost as things stand
Aunt Mary gets ants in her pants and wants it to happen yesterday

More then that...

So Paps is probably cooked and the storm are releasing him.
I notice some teams know when to release players, others don't. The Storm and Dragons seem to be able to release their done and dusted to us. While Parramatta, Dogs often release their well trained.

That said, what does Paps offer:
A well trained Fullback!

As does:
Teddy,
Dylan Edwards
Clint Gutherson

and plenty of others.

Benji is signed (IMHO wrongly) for 4 years. That means he will be aiming to hit the finals in 3-4 years time.

Would we rather hire an Edwards, Paps or Cooked Fullback that would train up Makasini to take the spot? OR stick with Bula who IMHO is very good, but not as good to be in the top 10 fullbacks?

Benji would be aiming for finals this year...sole focus....worry about 27 28 then.
Stick with Bula ...let him focus on his position...let Mak focus on his...we dont need to bring in other.pieces and.make a jigsaw...no need to overcomplicate things

Before his smashed face injury Douehi was playing so well as half back that we didn't look too bad. Given the unsettled halves combo all year with Jerome, Latu, Galvin, Douehi & Mason, it's a wonder we won any games at all. It's hard for a fullback to be chiming in at the right time when the ball-playing halves are a new combo each week.

It all largely comes down to results during the 2026 season, but on paper the Dragons should not be any further advanced than what we are.
So assuming the Dragons do not perform significantly better than us on the competition table and I am assuming Shane Flanagan is not the type of coach to pay massive overs for a player, therefore I don’t believe the Dragons offer would be any better than ours.
I don’t see the Dragons as a threat, I’d say the Bulldogs and Sharks could be our biggest threats, but again I cannot see them offering him as much as what we will unless he starts the 2026 season in career best form.

Haha Doesn’t pay overs ? They signed Gutho as a reject from parra on $800k for 3 years and are already looking to replace him with Bula cus he’s too old in his first year

Bula will get his money while we are asleep at the wheel

We are talking up around a million dollars per season for a players who shows plenty of potential, but has not yet proven to be anywhere near a million dollar per season player, so if he does get that money it’s taking a risk and gambling that he makes the necessary improvement to become a million dollar per season player very soon.
He is much more chance of living up to this potential with us than he would be at any other club and I highly doubt any rival club will be willing to pay as much as what we will offer him.

Ur speculating he wants a million dollars

People overlook the quality of the human - he is the type of person coaches want to coach. He has a ton of natural talent and hasn't come close to reaching his ceiling. Of course Flannagan would be interested with an aging FB in his team.

Incredible athlete and by all reports, a great person.

I think he stays.
He's a family man and his brother in law Fonua Pole is with us (still).

Benji has him.
I reckon He stays, he's a man of God and a man of his word so I believe. The connection with the playing group is there with results on the back of that this year there's no need to leave,We will make sure his pay package is healthy, he he we be around long term
