CEO Forum 20 Jan 26 - Hotwash Part 1

There would be no invite with richardson however unsure how the invite improves the club.

I went to a pascoe one a few years back while it made me feel good about myself temporarily i can now say it done nothing for onfield performance.

Host of changes with sheens sacking, no more blore ect. Pascoe and richardson now gone Same shit different day with rather club same issue the owners.. is shawn pascoe v2 ?

Regardless appreciate the update
These type of sessions are probably more a case of letting the kids have a cry so they feel heard. I doubt they'd take away lots of action items .

Retrospectively, I think Richo had the only approach he knows . The board has to have an independent majority for him to work with. At the time, I agreed but it also might seem a bit bullying.
The HBG were never going to sit back and cop that for too long.
Maybe, Shaun has a better approach with more of a negotiation type style that allows everyone to feel less forced. Also the overriding hand of PVL is a necessary tool to keep HBG from going rogue again!
I’m feeling that this could work out🤞🏼

Hopefully Shaun can get more funding from them because ATM we are the least funded team in the NRL
Can’t compete at a high level without the resources

There was definitely a bit of that and it also forms part of their strategy to grow the member base though engagement. Do they get much out of it - probably not much directly - but the word spreads that they are listeneing - couteracts the members not signing up because of HBGs actions (and there were a couple there that changed their minds) and maybe that pick up something along the way. The cost to WT is minimal so I expect the ROI is pretty good for them.

Thanks mate love your work and I’m one who is glad to hear that PVL may have put a cracker into the HBG folks , they needed it and if BO returned via PVL I think the HBG folks have been warned with some serious words about what he expects to happen this year including no dumb shit like what happened just recently, and to leave the board alone , stay in their lane type thing , I also feel this may help the team as word gets back to them that the big boss is on the Wests Tigers side and won’t cop crap from HBG , could be the sting we needed to wake up this giant sleeping club ,thanks again Jolls
Hopefully PVL has told the HBG Blazer brigade clowns to pull heads in and tell them it is wests tigers or nothing in the NRL

Neither Shaun M or BOF can say it, but i hope PVL can do something about the WA debenture system. It's the root cause of so many issues.
That was discussed in a round about way - basically it cames down to HBG being 90% owned by Wests so unless Wests decide to change the debenture system we are at the will of the owners - as per any company. The drive from Wests Tigers is to change the dynamic of the boards from us and them to us and from being cynical about Wests Tigers running at a loss to wanting to give is more money.

So yes we are still fighting/having to deal with the same the debenture holders and the same goveernance structure (although it will be interesting to see what the new bord construct is). The point of difference being the influence the NRL (PVL) has had on HBG. If we can get sign off on the strategic plan and Wests Tigers can convince HBG that the path we are taking is in the bests intersts of noth organisations (as opposed to going our own way) there may be a chance for success.

I think Richo was doing what needed to be done - generate more funding independently of HBG hence being less dependent on them. If HBG are all about control then financial independence threatens that.
The best approach would be to continue with what Richardson and the former board started and don't waiver.

Based on Shaun’s previous track record I don’t agree but he would’ve known that the first one was going to have added emotion / venting.

If they want financial control then they should invest the same as what clubs like Canterbury and Penrith do. If they do that and stop with all the BS politics, I'd back them 100%

You can dig and get some info - I was able to find a few details if I recall Canberra, us and the Dogs. I was able to get some rough figures for Manly - but for cluns similar to ours the $ input from HBG is way down. I will see if I can dig our what I found tonight/tomorrow.
I'm a bit flat chat with work atm to look at other clubs but the latest annual report has HBG grant figures on page 19 - https://holmanbarnesgroup.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1-December-2025-statement-HBG-1.pdf
