Jahream Bula #269

If Bula was re-signing for $700k i think most on here would perhaps accept the performances he has put in over the last 12 months. We are a better team with him in it and maybe his ceiling is a $1.2m player, however the reality is that over the last 12 months any reasonable person would not value him any higher than $850k based on what he has shown and the mid point of his potential. That's still a shitload of coin for a young player and I doubt very much that any other club is legitimately taking more than $800k out of their salary cap to sign him.
Yep that’s 💯 true . The vitriol is just too much though . Some people have lost sight of your point

Mate all of that isn’t what I’m talking about. it’s constructive , admittance of fact both filled with praise and critique . It’s an objective view . My issues is not people like you . It’s the other 5 pages of bullshit honestly from the usual suspects.
Guys whoever admittedly on here , never played a game in their life . I find that frustrating with the level of toxicity . And I was gonna say lack of empathy … but that seems obvious to me why they lack empathy . I agree , he should be levelling up when we are talking about giving him a million , which is why I’ve repeatedly Said the best option is to take up the 2027 option and kick the can down the road .
It buys 18 months , allows for stability , and allows Attard and Brooke’s the time . Attard definitely has “It” , he’s too young and too small , which means he drifts in and out as he he develops his motor, football acumen , and skill level . 2 solid years holding up the 1 for the magpies should have him smashing down the door come the end of next year .
Same for Brooke’s . You also have the Harold Matt’s 1 at wests who looks like he could be anything . And Lanyon on the wing for magpies SG ball looks to be an amazing backs prospect .. but I digress … I think a 900k contract … basically a prove it year has to be the only option … despite the pressure Isaac is applying because he wants to get paid . Screw that guy !
I totally agree this is the best plan of action.
We still have the right of reply on any offer?
And if at anytime during the season he kicks on, then we can offer him a major upgrade.
Like someone else the last we need is a Luke Brooks situation

Bula is a good fullback with the potential to be a top 3-5 FB in the game. Having said that, he hasn’t had a good start to this season. His first game against NQ was very average and his game against Souths wasn’t great either.

He makes very good metres out of our own end and nearly always looks like he’s about to break through the line but he needs to be way more active around the ruck and in defence on our line. That last try was pretty much all Skeltons for not grounding the ball but Bula was jogging, didn’t even get close. He was also casually jogging on the line during the last tackle when Sullivan went for the line and was brought down by Seyfarth and Hope(?). Maybe I’m being overly critical but if you asking for close to 1mil a season, the standard is Edwards and Tedesco-esque defence.

He’s definitely improved his 1v1 defence this season. Not many players can bring down Mitchell in the open. I was also happy to see his support play with Luai on his break in the NQ game (even though Luai didn’t pass it!) which was one of my few criticisms from last season.

Bula is a good footballer off to a slow start. We won’t be better off without him however Benji needs to get him going. Looks an unassuming kid needs to take more control

If people on here bothered to watch the game they would probably have a different opinion. Bula is always around the ruck in attack, and when Api made his break, Bula was the only player in support. Unfortunately, the defence crowded and he was unable to pass inside, otherwise Bula most likely scores. The problem is a team thing, there's absolutely no structure or direction, with both halves guilty of switching back inside when they should be going outside. How is any fullback meant to be put through a gap when none is being created? We never create numbers.
Jock Madden this week might be the difference we need.

He has shown glimpses in that period. But not enough to convince most that he is anything but a punt play. And patience is wearing thin.
FWIW, I wouldn’t go dropping him or anything, but I don’t think we are a better team with him in particular, ie over almost any other fullback. As such, if we have serious finals aspirations, re-signing anyone who is unproven in such a crucial position, on any money whatsoever, should not be a given.

I said something similar. He gets no help from his halves and those who think he isnt trying are off their heads. He is definitely trying hard.

For the record, my defence of his isnt because I rate him highly and think he is going great, im just fldefendinf the fact that he isnt trying and pointing out the obvious that his halves do stuff all for him.

My final few words on the Bula analysis. The main reason for the negative comments about Jahreem is that a lot of us don't think he's playing anywhere near the level required of a player seeking a 900k+ contract. No one doubts his athletic ability. We all know he can be a great broken field runner and that he's excellent under the bomb. I actually like him as a player and want to see him star for the team. The issue is that he's not playing like an elite fullback but seems to, (along with his cretin for a manager) be holding out for an elite fullback's paycheck. Defenders of Bula can blame the team, the halves or the coach but, in the end, he is not one of the best in his position and should not expect to be paid as one. That's it.
Finally, I can't understand why certain forum members get all worked up. We all have our favourite players. Fair enough, but there is no need to get defensive, or aggressive because someone criticizes a player you like. And to character assassinate someone (never played the game, blah, blah) is pretty low brow. This is a forum where differing opinions are meant to be shared and respected. Go Tigers!

Hodgo being at the club and not drilling him about a running style of backing up drives me bonkers. Until he starts threatening by backing up/attacking runs like Hodgo did while playing at the Tigers I have no time for him. Lazy. Seen it a million times since Jesus played half back for Bethlehem. The ability is there, he just comes across as a bloke that has coasted through his footy life on raw natural talent and thinks thats enough. Is there a will and a want to lift his game to be elite? 4 years in, I dont there is. This is supposed to be pro footy. Pull your finger out of your Hoppa. Next

Yes Winston, don't know what's going on with him, Hodgo was excellent at backing up he would have been drumming it into him all off season, I think his mind is at a new club unfortunately.

So it’s everyone’s fault but Bulas. I’m a bula fan and he has been our worst player this year. As someone posted , did anyone expect Bula to do something out of the ordinary to win us that game ? No one did . Hes always too far behind the play , doesn’t back up and is hardly in camera shot when someone makes a break . Has no ball skills. Maybe he’s a winger trying to be a fullback .

60 games in now ….

So I know how much you like it when I talk to people I know at the pub well last night I headed up to the local thinking can I get anything for my friend Tommy and I did about Bula

I was there chatting away had a steak and a few and just about to put my $20 into the pokies my fortnightly budget for pokies the an interesting person came and had a chat

Well I was told that Bula had agreed to terms with the club but the problem was his old manager now working at Canterbury had not agreed to render the old contract null and void he wants his $$$ also Canterbury want to make an offer

So another 6 weeks no news so the Tigers option runs out then the Bula option runs out then the contract is null and void in the meantime Canterbury trying to get $$$ for an offer

Who knows if it's true but the steak was nice and the beer cold

Fair point really, we have said all along take the option & Moses gets nothing. Who does? The old manager who brokered the original deal.

Unless the old manager waives his entitlement as you say then he should be compensated for a deal being finalised within his original contract period.

So we will just have to wait until the 'player option' dates passes. The club has been clear we don't want 1 year we want an extension.

Bula's old manager I believe was hired by Gus to work at the dogs or maybe he got there just before Gus but they must have some cracking conversations
