Jahream Bula #269

So I know how much you like it when I talk to people I know at the pub well last night I headed up to the local thinking can I get anything for my friend Tommy and I did about Bula

I was there chatting away had a steak and a few and just about to put my $20 into the pokies my fortnightly budget for pokies the an interesting person came and had a chat

Well I was told that Bula had agreed to terms with the club but the problem was his old manager now working at Canterbury had not agreed to render the old contract null and void he wants his $$$ also Canterbury want to make an offer

So another 6 weeks no news so the Tigers option runs out then the Bula option runs out then the contract is null and void in the meantime Canterbury trying to get $$$ for an offer

Who knows if it's true but the steak was nice and the beer cold

Does everyone at your club just talk about the latest rumour about Bula’s contract ? You need to tell these blokes to get a life …

I don’t really buy this latest one either … the old manager stepped into a new position. …that was his choice., but he left our boy high and dry …I don’t see how he can demand Bula pays him anything … for what ? I don’t see anyway the old manager gets paid a cent more … if there is more money to be had there That will go into Isaac’s pocket

Why don’t you just buy my theory that the Tigers have the highest bid by far, but Iaaac wil wait to the last day he can to see if anyone else will better or even equal it

The option bs wld have been included within his current contract,so may be an argument former manager is entitled to his 6 %
If former mgr isstill getting paid ,despite moving career, its a very strong argument
Bula pays it anyway..

I think this is the problem. People been giving Viscous shit about Purdue being a centre, not a fullback. But he clearly all the attributes of a very good fullback.
I don't see those attributes in Bula, never have. But he does have all the attributes of a very good winger.
Blind Freddy can see Purdue will be an elite fullback or 5/8, better suited to fullback to free up his running game in the short term.
He’s worth at least 300k more than Bula currently, based on much better acceleration off the mark, much better tackle break and line break ability, much better deception with ball in hand, a better kicking game and better defence.
Contrary to some opinions, I believe Bula is definitely giving 💯 trying hard and not doing much wrong, he simply does not have the characteristics to bring the required X-Factor to be the match winner we so so desperately need.
So yes if he was playing centre or wing and utilising his speed that would be great for us, but that would be on a 500k contract at best.
Anyway Friday night is another chance for him to show if he has X-Factor match winning qualities as a fullback.

He has shown glimpses in that period. But not enough to convince most that he is anything but a punt play. And patience is wearing thin.
FWIW, I wouldn’t go dropping him or anything, but I don’t think we are a better team with him in particular, ie over almost any other fullback. As such, if we have serious finals aspirations, re-signing anyone who is unproven in such a crucial position, on any money whatsoever, should not be a given.
Glimpses.
Imagine telling your boss you showed glimpses for six months. You’d be showing glimpses from home. Permanently.

For the current salary, it's ok, but for the upgraded salary, the expectation gets higher.

Every podcast or radio/tv commentary ive seen or heard on. Purdue has him going to fullback eventually

If he plays under the option… maybe …. They could just draw up a new 1 year deal and change the amount by $500 to get around that though…. The post I was responding to seems to indicate that the old manager wants his pound of flesh if he signs a new deal ? That’s how I read it ..even if true …that’s for the other three to sort out …not the club…

Also ..the old manager doesn’t have to “ render the old contract null and void”… the contract is between Bula and the club…he isn’t a party to it

I don't necessarily believe Purdue has better tackle breaking and line breaking ability. In one respect he does with acceleration and agility but I think Bula is the more balanced and more powerful runner. I also don't necessarily think Purdue is a better defender. Put Bula in a defensive line I think he tackles just fine. But all the other attributes plus ball playing I agree Purdue is far superior.

Purdue is re-signing with the cows for $750k can we stop the talk of him coming here ????
That’s the offer, he has signed nothing.
I am sure he will not be accepting that offer knowing other lesser players such as Bula are supposedly being offered more.
We have many supporters who complain about always missing the top 8 and if we are never looking to upgrade our players, nothing will change.
I’ve long been saying our forwards are fine and we are lacking quality in our backline.
Hardly anyone agreed and kept saying our backs are strong and our forwards are week.
3 weeks into the 2026 season and it’s quite clear our forwards are good enough, but we lack class in the backs.

Unlike some players that come through our club..he might be happy playing for his local team and not feel the need to squeeze every dollar he can out of the market …this won’t be his last contract either

Whilst I agree …you did say the pack was fine …Were you happy how the halves played last week? I don’t recall you suggesting changes there and I’m pointing the finger there for only scoring 16 points …the biggest problem wasn’t that we let them score 20…. We had plenty of ball to score more

I have long said they needed another Center (and Middle) , but that wouldn’t have made a difference last week

He can’t command fullback/half money when he’s still in the centres for the foreseeable future. I’d say $750k is fair and he’s a local NQ boy so I wouldn’t be so sure. We are missing our starting centres so yeah obviously there’s a dip in class there.

When I say the backs, it’s meaning our 1-5.
Our halves will be fine, we have 4 very good options to choose from and a good emerging youngster as our 5th option.
As of last Saturday night it was looking like we would have 3 of our 4 options injured which was a problem, but the latest news sounds like Latu Fainu and possibly Adam Doueihi might both be available to play on Friday night.
Makasini is a star in the making, but at 18y.o is a work in progress and our other high quality outside back with x-factor is Taylan May who is currently injured.

He will get 1 million per season to play fullback somewhere in 2027, no ifs and buts about it.
If we think Bula is better value at 900k than so be it.
