OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Won’t surprise me if in a couple years, they’re based in far north Qld and just travel to PNG to play home games. Maybe a training session or two. GWS were supposed to be based in Blacktown originally. That was the whole purpose of the second Sydney AFL team. They lasted in Blacktown, maybe a year. I don’t think enough NRL players will want to live there, regardless of the tax rorts .
GWS didn't even last the year. They went from based in Blacktown to training in Blacktown but playing at Homebush to based in Homebush all before a ball was kicked.

Gee ur dum if u can’t add up a average over his career
What ? How does that have anything to do what money he has right now ? Professional sportsmen are notorious for blowing cash . An even if he doesn’t have cash there’s a huge difference between a career where he’s earned 5-10 million , and 4 years where he can earn the same amount . IRS life changing .

I would think Laui leaving would make us more likely to keep the Mays and the Fainus.

With the Mays when they signed with us they were a Roosters bench prop and out of the game and the Fainus were juniors with no nrl experience. All are going to need pay rises going forward to stay so Laui going would make that possible. If Laui stays we wont keep all of them

Whilst i too am not overly concerned with Luai getting paid a bag of money elsewhere in 2028, you could look at this the other way. He has to make a call in the next few days about staying on at the Tigers, the only real alternative where he could get extra $$ that would be attractive enough to make the move is PNG. The guy has to do his due dilligence. I could be wrong, however i recall reading that his option this year is for the remainder of his contract.
Could immediately upgrade the Sam, Latu, Terrell and Taylan

Only if you actually believe Luai was going to agree to remove clauses for no reason whatsoever without anything in return.

The reason he would remove them is that his contract would have been topped up.

They could do that from 2028 when the new tv rights come into effect. Allowing us to have a competitive team and retaining players until then like Bula etc.

But hey, what do I know ..

Going over their could also be a negotiation tactic but let me ask everyone on here a question.

How much more would you need to get paid in your job to move to Port Moreseby?

Per chatgpt: a “$1.2M player” in the NRL is realistically living on around $650k net per season, before lifestyle costs and investments. For the same salary, he would basically be earning double the money.
