Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

Comments like these do my head in . Even the most dedicated nrl player who’s on a full time contract would spend max 4-5 hrs a day actually doing things related to thier job . Recovery for the rest. That includes video , rehab , ice baths , hydro pools , stretching/yoga/Pilates and actual fitness/ strength, extracurricular things like school visits etc. he literally spends his spare time running clinics and coahung and you think that’s a bad use of time ? Why because at 18/19 his development is taking a little longer ?
I say this every single week , but some really intelligent guys on here turn thier brain off… . He’s a kid . Let him mature
Seen a million kids come through this place
- I can count on 1 fingernail the Kids that have made it that think they're better than they are.
He's got a fairly high opinion of himself for a kid that's been basically moved from everywhere
and wound up here.

I don't care what he does, He means little to me until he actually does something (Which he hasn't)
When he's another underperformer on a top 30 contract, He'll be open to everyone and everything then.

Does anyone know when the Junior Reps awards presentations are being held?

It just crossed my mind that nothing has been posted about them & usually they've been held by now.

You sound like a sociopath . You do realise that right ?

If we can get him on those injections to grow a bit taller, he could be a superstar.
I just don't understand why all of our outside back prospects in junior reps are under 6 foot tall. Outside of Lanyon, all of our backs are smaller than their opponents.

It's not the be all and end all but it's an issue our boys need to overcome.

Collectively it's an issue as any one side can realistically only have one outside back under 6 foot. Otherwise you've got too many weaknesses to try cover up. So when so many of our prospects are undersized it makes it difficult for them to develop as you generally have two undersized players defending side by side.

Height & explosive speed are 2 attributes lacking through our pathways and have for some time.

Makasini & Taupau-Moors are 2 with height who have ability plus a couple of forwards in Laurie Daley Cup. Probably add Huahulu to that as he's probably close to 190cm.

Oitmann, Lanyon, Iszac Isdale & Aroyan are 4 with speed plus Kingston Finau isn't too shabby either.

But we need to identify & develop more from our massive catchment.

Our part-time NSW Cup coach Tyrone McCarthy has been appointed as Pathways Coaching Director for the Wests Tigers which I assume will make his role now full-time.

I believe this role sits under Head of Pathways Bronson Harrison. Brad Speechley is our Pathways Coordinator (Wests/Macarthur). Not sure who is coordinator for Balmain/Inner West.

Gotta be better than a clueless flog with too much invested in SuperCoach or the weekends multi like plenty of other on here right?
Or someone with some sort of Stockholm syndrome - who thinks because we over paid and over hyped every other kid displaying a smidge of talent that we have to keep doing it.
I’ve seen him play, and I’ve seen far better at that age retire in QCup with 7 minutes NRL under their belt.

I’m on his side - but he’s got a way to go, and a lot of work to do.
Only so many hours in the day.

Heard the 4 x S’s mentioned here and there when scouting junior talent.
Size, Speed, Skill, Strength (I think that’s them) as a basic grounding to build from.

I feel like most of our scouting we think it’s multiple choice and you only need one of the above…
Rarely our kids tick more than one box

I can't understand if our junior base is so massive why is there so little of the 4 S's, are the baby stealers like the roosters swooping in early and snatching them, you'd think we would have a fair share of them, law of averages stuff.

They exist, we ignore them, other clubs then sign them.

If they're not super hard working young players then we just ignore them. Work ethic is important but it's not everything, can be improved upon, like techniques. Physical attributes you either have or you don't...
