LIVE GAME Round 14 v Panthers

Live Game Discussion
I posted up the hip drop on r/NRL and at first it seemed pretty obvious and most people were rightfully shocked it was missed but by the end of the night I was copping an absolute barrage for it haha.

Am I crazy? I feel like every time I watch the reply it just looks worse and worse. Some clown posted up the NRL rulebook and that makes it even clearer.

I don't know how people can view that tackle and not see a definition textbook hip drop. Some people are fixated on the "must make contact with the leg" but that's not actually necessary for a hip drop to explode a knee. It's about the weight drop twisting and damaging it. That tackle could have destroyed both Bula's knees with ease with it without contact.

And that aside, he quite clearly does make contact anyway?

I am truly gobsmacked.
It wasnt an illegal hip drop. The action was partly there, but he did not land on his legs in a dangerous fashion, his body weight landed next to Bula.

What about Snidest’s favourite player Noffa? Represented Samoa. Not saying representing another country isn’t as meaningful, because anytime you represent your nation it’s an honour. But the competition for spots isn’t quite at the same level is it? The only true flex for a player at international level is making the Australian team.
Not sure he realises, but he makes himself an easy target

I was at the game and a few take aways from me
- best we’ve looked in terms of structure all year
- even defence line speed was good pretty much all game. They didn’t look like scoring until they got it to the wings (turuva needed to do better on 2 occasions )
- Latu was amazing but a few times ran instead of passing when we had overlaps
- We have the form centre in the comp and we keep going to douehii (he’s not up to 1st grade unfortunately)
- ref killed us with calls

First time after a loss I actually felt that we are building something special here.

It's like backing a nag in a 2 horse race, crossing the line 10 lengths in front and then losing on protest. 😡

If Bula and Turuva had better 1 on 1 defense, we probably have some more wins on the board.

Benjis use of the bench is honestly starting to become very puzzling. Wasting 2 interchanges by taking May off for 5 minutes, giving Bird a 15 minute stint in the first half then only the last 5 mins & then not even giving Kit a single minute????? puzzling.

I posted before how the uae of our bench is terrible. We are not good enough to play 16v17. It’s not the first time this season either that he has left someone on the pine. Pick someone you can use, and the young fella could have done with some NRL game time so he’s more useful next time.
If you are only using 16 of your 17 you are at an immediate disadvantage in my opinion.

Benji learned from Sheens whom was old school. It doesn't fly in the current game. Maybe back in the 90s - early 2000s but not these days with the speed and intensity the game is played at now.

It's common sense. Players looked gassed, so throw some fresh legs out there. They were picked in the 17 hence good enough to take the field.

So does Laulilii get credited with a first grade appearance if he doesn’t take the field? He played 2 games before yesterday. Is it now 3, or is yesterday not recognised?

I get it, but does it matter now?

Well yes, if it's intentional... get that player to change. Charge him and give him 4-6 weeks off!

But that doesn't help US! We loose a game, maybe get a player injured.
Infact it hurts us if he is charged. Because Penrith can't play him against the next bunch of teams.

I’ve been corrected by the almighty Sucker. All bow down to the word of the self appointed forum know it all.
You clearly do not know the difference, so to spare everyone from yet another butthurt fan sooking about something that did not happen, I thought Id enlighten you.
You are welcome.

It was a great tackle.
Yeah only watched the highlites last nite after going to the game...watching it again this morning i think you're right he landed to bulas side.
Reminded me a bit of a matt cooper tackle many years back but cooper stayed on his feet...ball runner in the ingoal about to score and cooper grabbed him round the waist and hoiked him back into the field of play

Hip drops weren't illegal when Matt Cooper played football.

The NRL have done such a bad job with this hip drop interpretation. The point of it is to stop defenders doing exactly what Sorenson did. His tackle is exactly the sort of tackle that causes knee injuries. It is the definition of a hip drop in the true sense of the word. You don't need to make contact with the legs to perform a hip drop. Grabbing the player from behind and dropping your weight to the ground in a way that twists and torques the defenders knees is the action that causes injury.

The NRL have gone ahead and made some additional definitions with added KPIs because their refs are too dumb to be able to tell on sight the difference between a reckless tackle that can explode knees and ones where they are careful not to place pressure on the attackers knees. In doing so they've essentially legalised a dangerous tackle again.

Yep that’s a hip drop. The disappointment must have blurred my vision at the time.
But not mentioned by Benji/Romey during their presser rant, nor via the video ref, nor in the judiciary report ( so far). I really wanted a try as well but just think that it wasn’t quite as obvious as everyone saying. I thought Sorensons legs were to the side of Bula ?

Most people only notice details like that if the bunker or commentators point it out. That it was missed isn't evidence it was or wasn't a hip drop. The NRL are a clown level org and get dozens of calls wrong every weekend and most agree with that so using them missing something as evidence of no wrongdoing is a flawed argument.

🤣
You love me. I know it.

I was just having a Tigers fan fun reaction to old mates post. Should have been a penalty try!
But you couldn’t help yourself, again. 🤣

I grew up with NRL first grade refs in my house, 🏠, so I don’t care what your interpretation is, and how you think a dimwit like yourself could actually enlighten me or anyone who has experienced more than a stat is laughable. Oh that’s right you’re delusional.

I reckon there’s room for a lounge here inside your head.

Happy Kings Birthday to everyone else.
