Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Obviously would like Bula to stay, but not the end of the world if he bolts. All I hope is he makes his decision in the next week and doesn’t drag it out as it has to have a negative effect on the joint while his contract is in limbo.

Personally I think he will stay so that means he is out the door, as Iam usually wrong!
And if he does leave, start up the Judas chant at Leichhardt.

Take that bible basher!

Fair comment, but I would say we look far more balanced in terms of the has-been to straight from SG Ball ratio.

We have some pretty established and well performing first graders around the mid 20's mark all in their prime.

Previously we were talking about guys who'd played Origin 5 years prior to signing with us and they were considered marquee signings.
Yes, we definitely look more balanced which is why we need to ensure we don't focus just on pathways - our retention plan must be top notch so we can keep those we want and build resilience in the top 17.

Does anyone know if there will be a series on the preseason camp like last year?
Think that would have happened by now too much time has passed, anyway the original was a good story if you keep running a rinse and repeat it would become a bit of a cringe.

Maybe cover next off seasons would be more sensible, time between episodes.

Why would Bula base a decision to leave because Moses and Flanno are bosom buddies, not trying to shoot the messenger but that would be a really braindead decision not putting himself first.
Im with you mate in regards to the Flanno- Moses connection. At the end of the day, Moses presents the options and no doubt tries to sway things the way he would like, but its Bula who makes the decision.

This is left field,
I just hope that the club haven’t played hard ball on his salary , due to the fact that they think one of the kids will stand up next year and be better than bula .
This could really back fire 🔥 on the club , I think this is the strongest crop of players that we have had in years , and if they jell we could make the 8 , but letting class players leave ( he is not a top 5 fullback ) but he will get better over time , and the club keeps the players that they need to stay in that top 8

Don’t be surprised what some people will do for money

I have worked with guys that have lived in PNG … and those guys weren’t living on Island Resorts like the NRL players are going to … And I’m sure the NRL guys will be amongst the best protected people in the entire country ..probably with elite Australian security… the political risk ( terrorism) would be a concern for the Aust Govt

I’m more worried about the fans that will head over to Port Moresby to watch their teams play there than the NRL players
I'm not surprised, and I believe that a PNG side will be a valuable asset for the NRL at some point in the future. However, I also believe that the decision to use taxpayer doillars for this side was made by a poor leader with very little understanding of geopolitics.

A second Kiwi side would have made more sense for the NRL and would have strengthened our cross-Tasman relations.

Hope the mail is off, but i'm hearing Bula is leaning towards the Dragons, relationship between Moses and Flanno being the key.

They have alot of coin and need a kill Sloans money and Cookie getting a new deal for a lot less so there is about 1.2 million a year to offer Bula and keep Cookie what's the problem for them

If we made him a fair offer and Moses is sitting on it waiting for more let him wait

If it's true that we made two offers a two year and four year the Tigers can not bend you can not bend the salary cap out of shape for him

Maybe the Tigers are calling Moses bluff

Even if the back 5 is in 27

Offer Makisini an upgrade and extension with Bulas money

There has been plenty of talk about the junior players we have coming through. Although this paints a good picture I think many believe that they are ready now to play NRL. I personally think this could be the start of something positive if we invest in our pathways model.

Having said that I think that we (certainly on this forum) are over-valuing our 'elite' juniors and not signing the hardened veterans we need to stop the rot. That is easy to say - but until we up our on field performance and table position this will be a big battle for us as we will be pinning our future on players on the way down and those on the way up withough having the necessary hardened core to make it all work.

It is a chicken and egg problem though - and the key to it is having the draw cards to bring in the players who are FG proven and starting to hit their straps. Benji and Richo have enabled us to improve in this area but we still need to develop a critical mass of peak level veterans to carry and develop the junior talent and enough elite players to keep us in the top 4 on a regular basis.

This isn't happening overnight and our performances to date have been underwhelming. To get there though we need to stay the course and turn our developing players into that hardened core and maintain them. So while we talk about pathways and how important that aspect is (as it gives us cap space), probably more importaint is our retention plan.
I think they all need at least 1-2 years in nsw cup . In saying that I think the 3 big boys , so Godinet , JTM and Havea , could step up and not let the team down now . If being over matched .
If we can keep the bulk of this top 30 together for the next few years whilst these guys come through than happy days .
We also haven’t seen Roberts and JPP yet . Both early 20s .
