Expect Gareth Ellis to be a front rower in 2012

Why would you move one of our best players ?

I mentioned this in another thread but it was mentioned by Sheens that when Ellis extended his contract that he may end up in the front row towards the back end of his career. It's not a bad move at all IMO given the Tigers are often criticised for lacking go forward, whereas with a combination of Galloway/Ellis/Woods/Blair/Dwyer/Heigho/BMM/Begovich/Groat…There's some good size and grunt in that mix.

Add to this the fact that Ellis has good leg speed, plays nice and direct and can play the full 80 now...It would not be unrealistic to get 60 good minutes out of him in the front row and he and Galloway would work together in making good metres, plus we know both can hit well in defence, as does Blair.

A starting pack of:

Galloway
Farah
Ellis
Dwyer
Blair
Heighno

With a bench of:

Woods
Begovich
BMM
Fulton

Groat will get some game time but I think he's eligible for NYC again next year so I expect the club will bring him along slowly. Shaun Spence is worth hanging onto and he could be good value as he is a good defender and is bigger than Fulton. There's size and mobility in that pack so the Tigers should look in pretty good shape for next season IMO.

Im happy to go both ways on the Ellis call. If it best suits the balance of the team, then fine, put him in the front row, but if it doesnt, then leave him in the backrow. I have no doubt he will be awesome up front.

And with us letting 2 front rowers go, and also Payten, its safe to say Ellis will play up front. Sheens does NOT like to use too much inexperience, so Ellis and Galloway to start, with Woods off the bench. Maybe Groat, Begovich or Shirnack in the rotation.

Blair, Dwyer and Heighno in the backrow.

Fulton, BMM and Akeripa as other backrow options.

I'd prefer Ellis in the backrow and a good set of props - 2 starting and 2 on the bench. Every so often we get bashed in the forwards. I don't see why we wouldn't try and beef up our pack.

In saying that I think Ellis is our 2nd best player now and he'll kill them wherever he plays.

I hope we have not signed Bell…. He is pretty ordinary IMO. I think we should be sticking with our young group of forwards coming through, unfortunate that group is now minus a Fafita!

My Shopping List Would Be:

Adam Blair
George Rose
Greg Bird
Jharal Yoh Yeh
Tony Williams
Sika Manu
Joe Galuvao
Sisa Waqa
Jeremy Latimore
Wes Naiqama
Korbin Sims
Nigel Plum
David Simmons
Nathan Smith
Adam Cuthbertson
Masada Iosefa
Scott Anderson
Dane Gagai

All Off Contract At The End Of The Year, Any Of Them I Would Be Happy To Have In 2012\. Thoughts?

a motivated cuthbertson would be interesting in our pack.
tony williams would also be a good addition.
Yoh Yeh would be an obvious choice, but would be expensive.

I got a strong tip Matthew Bell from the Panthers will be joining the tigers next year

Re-signing Junior Moors I think would be a better option than Matthew Bell. Moors has showed glimpses with us while Bell I have yet to see anything that would improve the side.
