Apparently Joe Thomas has been appointed, i am assuming this was done to appease both sides of the JV. He would also have a close association with Potter from the Doggy Days.

I'm not trying to start anything just curious - how does Joe Thomas appease the Balmain side? Or is this simply from the perspective that the Balmain board members were happy to go with him?

Hopefully whatever the decison it was about best for the job rather then appeasement of factions

Potter played with Thomas is prob where the link is. Thomas played for Wests but that has no relevance in 2012

I could be wrong, but I don't think Potter and Thomas played together.

They were both at the Dogs in '88, played two games together, rds 21 & 22, a 26-0 win over saints and a 14-18 loss to souths

A third WTs coach also played those games

If this was the case, I am severely disappointed. We really need to get over the squabbling and make decisions in the best interests of the joint-venture and its continued success, not to appease both sides. They needed to appoint the best candidate (which in my opinion on experience and past success alone is Paul Fletcher) and let them get on with the job. I fear that if the most experience this guy has is coaching an U/17s or A-Grade side, the team is in some trouble.

Youre assuming a lot based on what?….rumours

People use the division to compensate for their disappointment in anything that happens at WTs....theres always a convenient point of blame....the other side

Ive seen the same rumours from various sources, all based from **one** side of the JV...funny that eh?

Having Potter and Thomas in are coaching ranks is a master move. Both were tough and competitive. I now want Folkes to come back to the fold. Thoughts Ink.

I agree mate, it could be good….Id love Folkes back

Look forward, not back

Have to admit, I also believe it should simply be the best coach. Fletcher is a very good coach and after getting them to the GF, should have been retained (if it is true that he hasn't been)…

The important thing, no matter what the decision, is that the club unite behind the coach.

Keep moving on down the road

im an old west magpie but we must stick to the wt format together the old days are gone forever.united we stand divided we fall .

In one breath you are whining about people creating division…. then you come out with that statement :unamused: Great

Its a fact…these are people that frequent BRET games

You know, its nothing to do with Wests, easy for people that are disapppointed in the decision (naturally - ex BRET fans as Fletch WAS their coach)....so easy to point the finger, but its all to do with employment, they wanted someone full time, Fletcher I believe has other employment he doesnt wish to leave

But yeh....blame Wests....its so easy.....you know, some of you have spent so long telling others to get over it, accept it....pffft, weak as P

Seems to be the same people time and again who have to mention the Wests/Balmain thing.
I don't know what the reasons were for Fletch not being appointed I am just happy to see someone come in who won't be influenced either way. Best of Luck to Joe in 2013.
