2014 Squad

A few out of the box ideas (some more than others)

Given Anasta is playing rubbish at the moment, and I think Sirro looks more and more an edge backrower. Moses physically is unlikely to be ready.

What about playing Lawrence at 6 and Sirro on his edge, both are half way between each position and could offer enough hard running and ball playing between them to make them a pretty dangerous combination.

It would also take a bit of pressure of Sirro defending as an edge back rower if the bloke outside him is not really a half and is almost a back rower him self. Also limit the mobility issues lawrence is currently having (which may improve once his foot is fixed)

Whack Simona and Koro outside them, pretty potent left side.

The issue with Lawrence at 6 is if Sirro is not outside him he probably does not have the passing game on his own to fill the role.

The other idea i'm thinking might be to give Woods the 13 jumper. The role is pretty similar to prop these days, his mobility is certainly up to it. Given we will have Galloway and Blair along with a host of young guys (Taupau, Ava, Buchanan etc) we could run a 4 prop rotation with Woods playing 80 in the middle as a lock, running the ball a bit later in the count after a couple other big boppers have a go could strenthen the rotation and allow us to have woods hold the middle together all game.

I think Halatau will allow us to play a 4 forward rotation with Halatau covering hooker and backs,

Has some merit , but if we stack our attack ,teams will stack their defence

We need attacking weapons on both sides to create uncertainty in the oppositions defence that will allow greater scope for our attack

That was our strength in 2010 and 2011 , we had so many attacking options ,we could go wide with real speedsters ,we could attack on the edges with angled runners , our halves would attack the line with ball in hand we had created attacking plays that were refreshing and kept the opposition thinking

The other side you play your genuine ballplayer with your genuine ball runners something like Brooks, Fulton/BMM (at different stages of a game) Richards and Noffa, with fullback chiming in. That would ask questions both sides

Jesse Sue I hope one day will be our wrecking ball out wide Build up his engine and put some more size on this young man

He has the speed and defence to play back row ,just do it Mick

Also worried defensively with Simona and Koroibete together Goose

i like the idea of Woods in 13\. as we have seen this year Merrin has made the switch and is playing like he has never before. And then play Sue on the edge. with a whole off season of bulking up he could be a real wrecking ball out wide

I definitely think Woods could make the transition to lock.

I don't agree although I think he is an awesome player, he needs to improve on offloading and footwork at the line that Merrin has. Sure they are same builds but completely different players

The Wests Tigers suck at the offload and have for a long time. No use trying them as no one backs up. Non existent part of our game.

has moltzon not signed with st helens?

and to me the backrow still looks small and unable to break the line , we really need two good backrowers.

Bloody hell, how big do you want them????

Sue and BMM are plenty big enough. In fact, not to many in the comp are bigger.

A season of firsts in the halves for Siro will be better than Anasta at half. I would go with a Siro/Brooks after the Manly game.

I think Sirro needs to move to the second row. Not sure who can play 6 but please not pretty boy!!!

I'm worried about hour halves depth, might be worth looking for another fringe half to help us out there, we have 3 guys with little experience and another who is well past his best. If the reports are to be believed, Moses won't be ready next year. Another couple of back rowers would also be nice.

I don't particularly like Anasta in the halves either but I really think Siro would be better in the second row. We don't really have another choice for a 5/8 and I doubt Anasta is going to get dropped anyway, but yeah, if it doesn't work, switch back to Siro in the halves. Here's hoping we don't see another repeat of the Manly game!

Anasta should defiantly be in the 2014 team and at five eight . You can forgive him one bad game in the halves just like one good game won't mean someone should always be in a position.

He will bring great experience both for a young back line and a young half in brooks, it will allow Sironen who should be about 110kg by the start of next season to move into the back row permanently.

He also has normally a good passing game, he has a good kicking game giving us options and he puts himself in the right place more often then not , even last week he was in the right place for the 3 poor passes he threw just bad passes.

Agree. This forum is far too knee-jerk sometimes. Give him another game, both because we need him next year and i'm sure he can do better… if he doesnt, then he's out for sure.
