2017 NINES SQUAD...OFFICIAL..

Brooks was off the pace last off-season and looked off the pace in FG for the most part. I think playing him in the 9's is a good thing, he'll be better for the run.

It wouldn't have hurt the entire squad for combinations and the like

Having Moses ,Brooks ,Tedesco and Ballin / Liddle combining and building some confidence would have been a good thing and throwing a few wins together doesn't hurt

They could get hurt in trials , do we not play trials :brick:

They could get hurt in the gym , do they stay away from the gym :brick:

They could get hurt in the sand hills , do we prevent any fitness training :brick:

They could collide building combinations , do we stop everything ?? :brick:

Happy unlike others I think for a young outfit like ours winning is everything. We need to pick our best team every week in every game and compete

Our defence in the 13 a side game is like we have 9 on the field anyway so maybe is a ploy for practicing for NRL…

Just watched Taylor's interview at the Squad Announcement...sees it as a distraction as everything is geared towards what really counts which is the grind of NRL for 24 Rounds...I see his point...It's his butt on the line...

It's only really short Teddy Rowdy Moses and Simona from a pretty full on NRL top 17 ...there are 10 there that were regular players in 2016 plus some young guys and a new recruit...

Teddy had a few minor surgeries in the off season as did Simona...leaving Moses out will be good for Brooks with the responsibility of Chief..

Of more interest will be the Trials for me..

JT Said that last year…. And the year before.
He's running out of lines ole mate....

They could get hurt reading this post. I agree though, would prefer we send a squad that could give the 9s a good shake. Maybe adding the likes of Simona, Idris, Liddle…

That is a very weak team we will play against. In fact one has to ask who is the top 5 paid player under the storm cap in that squad

I mean given Cronk, Slater, Smith and Jess Bromwich would be top 4 I wonder who it is in that squad

Interesting question. It sort of has to be Munster, doesn't it? But it seems difficult to believe that after two seasons he's on more than, say, Tohu Harris. Goes to show how good the Storm's roster management and coaching is that they were minor premiers with so many complete nobodies in the squad.

There's a name from our past that I haven't heard about for a while

Linc Port

Didn't he win some pre season comp we had between the players that had something to do with a beer keg ??

Munster extended last season on an upgraded contract and is apparently on north of $600K per season. Tofu Harris extended back in 2014 to the end of 2017 - he wasn't as much of a name back then and the salary cap was lower. Munster would definitely be top 5.

on paper it reads fairly weak however the storm have always taken second rate teams and generally still done fairly well in the 9s. no matter who that club runs out, in any format, they will always be competitive.

with the team that brisbane are suposedly naming they should walk all 3 pool games in.

Brooks excited for Auckland Nines debut

Dan Talintyre (Twitter: @dantalintyre)

Sat 28th January, 07:00AM
Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks says he's looking forward to making his Auckland Nines debut when the tournament kicks off next weekend at Eden Park.

After watching from home for the past three years, the former Dally M Rookie of the Year said he was a little unsure exactly what the tournament would hold, but was looking forward to taking to the field in preparation for what he hopes will be a big 2017 season.

"First time heading over so I'm pretty excited to get out there and give it a go," he said.

"It's been a long pre-season so it's exciting for the boys to get a bit of footy.

"It's not quite normal footy but it's something fun and we're all excited to go and play."

Having watched the Club's young guns show their skills throughout pre-season, Brooks said he was looking forward to seeing how some of the young brigade far against senior opponents.

"It's a good chance for those young boys to really show what they've got," he said.

"Coming up against experienced NRL players will be a tough test, but I think it's a good stepping stone for those young boys who want to try and crack it in first-grade.

"I'm personally really looking forward to seeing Esan Marsters — he's been training good.

"I think the Nines will really suit him and his footwork."

See what Luke had to say in full about this year's Auckland Nines in the video above!
