2019 Coaching saga -Thread

Souths will pay 400k for Bennett next year as Brisbane will pay the difference 600k between Seibolds current deal 400k and Wayne’s current deal 1m for next year only.

We will pay 700k for Madge with Panthers paying the difference between Clearys current deal 500k and Madge’s deal 700k for two years. Compensation will be 400k. Which drops Maguire down to 500k per season for the first two years of his deal.

Kinda surprised Bennett is going to the Bunnies given Richardson is a bit of a control freak, but only 2 years? Kinda glad we didn't pick him up then if that's all he's looking for.

Lots have transferred in , not many have stayed bar Cook ,Jennings and Sammy Burgess

A good marker would be someone like Fuimaono , remains unsigned for 2019 …..

Wonder what Robbie Rochow /Farah thinks ............... ??

Did he sign McQueen?

Don't think so , must have signed the year before and left in 2015 for Titans

Thanks for that TYGA. Sounds fine to me - just glad to get on with it. Have got to say Madge seems to have grown in stature over the last month or so - certainly hasn't done his reputation any harm, so let's hope he brings all the good characteristics players are talking about, to us. In my view, as long as his heart is 100% in it at WT's, then this has got to be a good thing for us.

Madge probably let McQueen go, and Walker is still there

Why would penrith pay compensation to get Cleary, who some beleive has never asked for a clearance. It all seemed pretty obvious to most on here that Cleary asked and the club refused months ago

Tigers come to terms with Maguire on three-year, $2.5 million deal
By Adrian Proszenko 25 October 2018 — 6:02pm

Tigers officials believe Maguire is a better long-term proposition than Bennett, who wouldn’t have been considered for a deal any longer than two seasons. Given the constant changing of clipboard holders at the club – Cleary will be the latest to move on in quick succession following the departures of Jason Taylor, Mick Potter and Tim Sheens – the Tigers hierarchy was keen to lock in a big-name coach for an extended period to provide stability.

I think the quote would be exactly opposite if we got Bennett.

"Maguire was a good back-up plan, but the club always a proven premiership winner like Bennett."

I couldnt see Bennett here, it was damn near impossible and its hard to imagine him at Souths, but he is a fan of the rich history of clubs such as Souths & Saints

Im happy with madge if it happens, hopefully hes a tough mother on the players, god knows we need it

Good to see something official finally….I assume Seibold remains at Souths for '19?
Surely thats gonna be untenable?

Possibly 3yrs if Bennett there next year as Tyga states

I agree

I thought the same when I read it

Disappointed about Bennett, but that was really only ever going to be a short term arrangement if it had come to fruition. Madge hopefully coaches us for a decade. Good pick up. Credit to Pascoe.

This is a very disappointing outcome. I have to say I expected more from our Board.

Trying to cover up their failed lack of appointment in respect to how it is perceived by the sponsors.
If they were only going to offer him 2 years and Wayne has only agreed to a 2 year contract at Souths we’ll I can’t understand than how Tigers officials believe they made a choice against Wayne based on the likelihood of the contract.
The real likelihood was Wayne said no way bugger off.
We were only a price point for Wayne so he had something tangible to negotiate to Souths with.
The only link we had to Wayne was through his manager so we could take the easy path to move on from Cleary.
The nerve of the tigers officials.
Cop it sweet, you aim high and sunk low.
That’s not to say that I think Maguire is a bad appointment I just find it disappointing that he was always referred to in the media as our second choice.
Ironically we were also Maguire’s second choice.
So both parties going into next years season as each other’s sloppy seconds.
How’s that for moral.
If only the club made a executive decision to target Maguire as first priority.
And let’s not forget the Elephant in the room.
Having 2 coaches appointed at once.
Is Cleary going on gardening leave like Barrett at Manly?
I probably won’t be surprised to see the two of them start their day at Girdlers Grind in Dee Why reflecting on what could of been next season.

They can't force people to come here

There were other options than Maguire. They've been mentioned in an earlier page.
