Yet part of the strategy to keep him was an extension offered not yet deserved and that's good Management.. extraordinary lenghts indeed..
Yes I agree with this. Offering him an extension to test his motives.
Why couldn’t we just sit him down and talk to him straight, ‘look I know you want to go.
Is it imperative it’s right now or do you want to see out what you’ve started.
I’m happy to meet in the middle and let’s walk away with our reputation and dignity in check and call 2019 the final hurrah?’
You mean like professionals…where is the fun in that...agreed btw.
but lets try reverse pshyc..1st..
@ said:Cleary just can’t take players if there aren’t enough spots in Penrith’s 30 man squad.
@ said:Happy enough with the apparent outcome and assume that finalising things at the eleventh hour league season wise was all about obtaining some cash from Penrith. Expect that WT got half a million or so and if not, then the club has been had twice.
Officials at the club probably should have handled a few things a bit better, though plenty on here were wanting the mongrel bring his son and still hoodwinked by him for weeks after the debacle that he created surfaced.

Please don't take this as me having a go at you personally. Your post just happens to be one of many saying the same thing.
I understand the sentiment, but what exactly could we have handled a bit better?
Our coach signed with another club behind our backs and went silent in the media. What would we have liked the club to do exactly? Attach cameras and GPS tracking equipment to our coach and players in case they run off and do what Cleary did?
Do we really want this guy hanging around anyway?
Do we think forcing someone to stay against their will is a good idea?
- Someone will pipe up and say "we are sending the wrong message"
- No actually, it's the right one. You're either with us, or against us. If you're against us, you can F off now!
Why do some think that management is responsible for this occurring?
My point is:
1\. This could not have been prevented - Nathan wanted to stay at Penrith and Ivan is doing what he wants to do, which is coach his son. It sucks for us, but this is the reality.
2\. No amount of "maneuvering" or chess-playing was going to help us in this situation - We had no currency. The best we had was threatening to not release Cleary, but all involved knew that if he signed for Penrith, we'd want him gone. That bluff was no bargaining chip in the scheme of things.
3\. As soon as it became clear what the situation was, Pascoe secured a premiership winning coach within weeks.
4\. Compensation - I don't know the real story here, but who cares? If we negotiated some, that wouldn't have been easy. If we didn't, I honestly wouldn't have expected Penrith to pay anything in the first place. Any compo is a MASSIVE bonus rather than a given in this situation.
5\. Potter, Taylor and Cleary were scrap heap coaches when they came to us. 2 of them still are. A premiership winning coach and a healthy salary cap is a good result considering what we've had to endure.
6\. Cleary is the one that looks like a dog in all of this.
7\. Most importantly…good riddance to that underhanded grub Cleary. We should all be breathing a sigh of relief that he isn't going to be here in 2019!

Five year deal if speculation is correct?
I dont think they wanted that….no one wants that.
Except coaches/players
Looks like the Clearys got exactly what they wanted
That said, this all puts all our seasons a bit behind the pack with a new coach coming in after the start of pre season
All about "the Clearys" happy for Penrith to deal with it. Lets see how long before Gus loses it over the club being all about the Clearys.
Gus will get the sack from Penrith before the Cleary’s do.

Whats the odds on Gus being the first coach sacked next year!

Makes me feel sick.
