2020 Forward Pack

Based on our current signings

8 Packer
9
10 Twal
11 Lawrence
12 Aloiai
13 Huth ET

14 Mikaele
15 Luciano Leilua
16 Musgrove
17 MCK /ET

Steady starting pack that can hold their own and then power off the bench .....I'd prefer Aloiai at 13 but then until I see how LL fits in I'd start with that

Hope we play with far more aggression / presence in 2020 ...be nice that opposing teams / forward packs playing us thought "bugger ......the Tigers this week ...this will hurt "

As far as hooker goes , I would hope that Madge pulls a rabbit out of the hat every week and uses a few different mixtures of combinations

I like Lawrence happy, but based on the last couple of months footy, no way he keeps Garner out.

I think Clark will see a bit of FG - he's the quiet achiever. Very young still, good motor and not afraid of hard work - the type of player we need to help tighten up the middle.

I like Clarke ...but he is a bit like Huth ...he either starts or he is a wasted space on the bench ......

Yeah, well, I haven't even named a pack, but would also have Aloiai as part of the middle rotation. Dirty eating wise, I don't want much more weight on Luke as I reckon it will diminish his effective minutes that he built up post getting over the loss of his father. In a similar vein, I thought that Maguire worked out how to use Elijah in a suitable role as the year wore on. Of course him not suffering head knocks helped.

The problem with the 13 is it changes depending who the hooker is

Yeah, and whist I am still confident that Liddle will come in and provide the goods at nine through to the end of our season, who fills that role in the interim is anybody's guess and probably depends on court cases and which backs come on board.

It’s a strong pack with a lot of room for continued improvement

Then bench in particular could work in a couple of formats.

Mikaela
Luciano
Musgrove
Cheekam

Or

Packer
Clark
Garner
Taylor

No need to really push for the Parra forward just yet.
His going to get the same amount of game time with us then he will at Parramatta.
Wait and see how it plays out. A mid season signing could be favourable for all parties. Costs us a lot less as well.

Musgrove was a starter at Rabbits. His not a flarey or over aggressive his just a really big body who doesn’t get bent back and has a large motor. Good starting prop imo. And probably a direct replacement for Matulino. Good value for output recruiting there.

Thoughts are Packer and Aloiai will be our impact man off the bench. Musgrove and Mikalee will start. I’d like to see Twal at lock. I think he and Eisenhuth play a similar game so I’m not sure both can be accommodated for, add ET into that argument.
Can’t see the clutch starting over LL however those two could interchange that role through the year. LG will be left side flank, 100%

I feel Twal starting at lock will create a lot more balance in the pack and shore up the middle more then a Huth. With Musgrove over the line this is definitely an option now, with Mikaele to come into his own this year. ETs defense is brilliant but we need a lock who can do more with the ball.

Aloiai has to be off the bench which is by far his most effective role. Chee-Kam to get the SR bench spot as i believe Lawrence has been told he will be a mentor to the forwards and see limited FG.

8. Musgrove
9. TBC
10. Packer
11. Leilua
12. Garner
13. Twal
14. Mikaele
15. Chee-Kam
16. Aloiai
17. Clarke/Lawrence/ET to replace Twal after 30min and tackle, allowing Twal to join the prop rotation.

Really like the balance of your suggested team! I think Seyfarth will be a Smokey on the bench. Madge rates him and his aggression, size and work rate will be valuable off the bench.

I just hope Madge finds a 80 min hooker. We go well with 4 big men on the bench.
No more hooker on the bench nonsense.

But the bench has no oomph ......just my opinion

Jake Simpkin is a Jedi.

The thing I've noticed is there are some quality lineups proposed throughout the thread.

It feels like we have a bit of depth

Think I’m on my own here, but I actually think we played some of our best footy late last year with Benji at hooker.

I’d be tempted to try him there with Reynolds at 5/8. At least for periods. Say what you think of Reynolds, but I think he brings some unpredictability which we sorely need in the starting side. And he is certainly no hooker.

Benji would be my pick ahead of all the other 5/8 or second row options we currently have before Simpkins or Liddle are available.
