On the Podcast that Lauren presented, Gary Belcher said that they may not ever go back to multiple trials (Madge agreed) as they were not really required with current training techniques (or words to that effect), I suspect also there is less risk of injury to key players.

Personally I don't think we need more than 1 trial. If you look over the past few years the 1st trial has been mostly made up of fringe FG players and up and comers. The second one has been a proper hit-out for the main squad, most of whom are replaced at halftime by the fringe players, so I don't see the need for two at all. They do enough opposed sessions, they're fit enough.
