Wests Tigers
Thu 18 Feb 2021, 03:57 PM

Wests Tigers new recruits Daine Laurie, Stefano Utoikamanu and Tuki Simpkins will headline a number of young talents set to take on the Sydney Roosters in a trial match this Saturday at Kirkham Oval.

With a 33-man squad set to feature on the night, the clash against the Roosters wraps up a three-game at Kirkham Oval which will also see the club's Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership and Jersey Flegg sides play trial matches.

Joining the new Wests Tigers recruits in Saturday's team will be NRL squad members Zac Cini, Tommy Talau, Jock Madden, Michael Chee Kam, Jake Simpkin, Jacob Liddle and Alex Seyfarth while the club's three Development players — Reece Hoffman, Kelma Tuilagi and William Kei — will also take to the field.

Jersey Flegg-eligible players such as Mavoni Tuifua, Logen Dillon and Iverson Fuatimau — who all trained with the extended NRL squad over the summer — are also set to feature in the match after their trial earlier in the day.

Hosted in Wests Tigers heartland at Kirkham Oval, entry is free for all patrons with gates opening at approximately 3:00pm AEDT.

**No live stream will be provided by the club on the day** with Wests Tigers Members and fans encouraged to head along and cheer on the club’s respective teams. Capacity on the night is limited to 3,000 due to social distancing restrictions, with patrons to be provided access on a first-in, first-served basis.

**Live streams are available on NRL.com and Kayo Sports**, with Wests Tigers to post highlights from all three grades later on the weekend.

Is this game against the Roosters now a full trial game? It was originally just meant to be an opposed session right?

I believe it is now a full game with only players who played less than 12 NRL games last season being eligible.

NRL Squad for this weekends trial

Tyronne Roberts-Davis, Zac Cini, Reece Hoffman, Tommy Talau, Allan Fitzgibbon, Daine Laurie, Jock Madden, Alex Seyfarth, Jake Simpkin, Stefano Utoikamanu, Michael Chee Kam, Kelma Tuilagi, Tuki Simpkins, Jacob Liddle, Kiah Cooper, Tyler Field, Ky Rodwell, Zach Dockar-Clay, Edenn Rogers-Smith, Iverson Fuatimau, Joe Taipari, William Kei, Logen Dillon, Israel Ogden, Curtis Wilson, Liam Scolari, Austin Dias, Regan Hughes, Semisi Kioa, Etuale Lui, Mavoni Tuifua, Daniel Sykes, Billy Stapelton

Thanks for the list. I wonder how many will get a run, and for how long? It looks like the credits after a movie.

Apparently the first 13 players on the list , are the starting team ie. Roberts - Davis is playing fullback through to Tui Simpkins at lock .

Backup FB is my concern, and i think they want to see how Davis goes. We need cover for this position.

We have Laurie and Mbye.

Laurie at FB, mbye not capable last year at 1 . Good utility and hope he gets his form back. We need someone capable in case of injuries or suspension to Laurie. Fullback is where we suffered badly last year.

Disagree, he is a good fullback if he can get his issues under the highball under control.

Mbye is a talent when he wants to be. He is nearing the end of his contract and has been shopped around for 2 yrs. I expect a big year from him this year,but his future is uncertain. 1,6,7and 9 are crucial , and we have backup for 6,7, and 9. Last year we had Momo,Mbye,and Doeihie, who not only did not gain ground on kick returns,but gave little assistance to the halves either through the ruck or on the edges.None of them were good in this position.

Dude you do this all the time . Leave out facts to suit your arguement . Does Daine Laurie not exist ?

HEY DUDE, we were talking backup! You are just looking for an aurgument as usual. CHILL OUT.

Nah , not at all . Just calling it how I see it .

**Four things to watch in Saturday’s trial match**

* New Recruits

* Hookers

* Youngsters on the rise

* Defence

There’s still plenty of reasons to be excited for Saturday’s match as combinations will be strengthened and players to stake their claim for Round 1 selection.

Gods country mate!

Ill be there.

My points of interest are Laurie at 5/8 and fullback.

Fitzgibbon and how or if he rises to the challenge.

Other than that its watching the young forwards and looking for commitment and heart.

I will also watching Madden closely, see how far he has matured in the last 12 months.

Hopefully it will be available on the NRL website as a replay the next day or later that night. I’ve noticed both Dragons trials are still available to view.

Then a lunch at a pub and then onto the game.

Broncs trial streaming soon on their website. They have named a pretty strong lineup, not Tigers but it’s RL

I'm fairly sure it's being streamed on nrl.com and Kayo. I read it somewhere the other day . . .
