Not looking at ladder position this year although top eight is success in the NRL.

I think Benji needs to have a plan that will align with his player’s abilities.

Sezer is a steady halfback so our game must be based on structure and a low error count.

Our other half will have L plates on so keeping the game simple will be important.

I’d be looking at using the big frames of Naden and Olam to get early go forward, with the aim to turn sides around and give them the ball back deep in their territory, our pack should focus on being a team that looks to intimidate in defence (never really been us).

If we can win some low scoring games I’ll be happy, it’ll indicate we understand who we are, we’re not built to win point scoring shoot outs.
Simple game plans with this lot until the dust settles.

We do have some attacking prowess in slices.

We need more support and options for Api. I gew really tired of watching missed opportunities and watching Api having to die with the ball. Then the next few plays wed fumble about.

The exciting news about salad is that he should be able to land his kicks where he wants them most of the time, instead of the Brooksy lucky dip of poor ambition.

I’m sure Brooksy got every kick at training right, then he’d get this stage fright thing and options became poorly thought out and poorly executed.

Causing some chaos at their line with boys running through might be better than passing to slow backs. It depends of course on gaps and opponents.

But I agree that the grind is our best chance unless we smell blood.

And hopefully we see the end of our national broadcasting of attack in advance. Api sometimes has the Defence in two or three minds, all of our players need this awesome attribute.

Yea I know what you mean...
Api seemed to rattle the defense, then we passed to Brooks who seemed more rattled then the defense.

Yet I put that down to Coaching, as your halfback should have a few attacking options to pick. i.e. Do we do quick passes to the wing as it looks like a gap, do I dummy to the wing and go it myself... or do I pass to Pole if I see him unmarked...

We need to grind, we have always needed to kick on tackle 5 more and that's been our teams weakness. Just the last 2 years it has been because we have fumbled tackle 3 instead of tried some stupid fancy play....

Cmon Marshall, teach Sullivan (salad?) and Fainu how to do some fancy plays.

Haha. Sezer.

@Tucker has pretty high standards. I’ve only ever known him to be comfortable and satisfied with 2 maybe 3 games in the last 5 seasons.

So only 2 or 3% of these games. He won’t even accept a win if it’s jagged, deranged or unsteady.

That he has to sit through say 2 seasons worth to find a single game he thinks we played well in, must be tough.

And he always said that any success would be fleeting and evasive until we were led properly by our officials and management.

That the circus would continue at least until then.

And he said this 5 years ago and it came to pass.

I’d hazard a guess that but for a few notable exceptions that he doesn’t like our squad very much and he’s not currently convinced that Benji is the best coaching option for us for a myriad of reasons.

He can correct me, just my perception of his deliberations for awhile.

Which is not to say we agree on everything, except perhaps the fundamentals. Then all bets are off!
This is pretty on the mark.
I’m learning to accept Marshall is the HC. certainly not happy how he got the job but I wish him well.
We are slowly changing out our roster. Still a lot more to move on but we have begun well as of last year. Our backs need a good overhaul and that’s begun but remains incomplete.
Season 23 is our worst ever as a club IMHO and I’m looking for a huge improvement this year. It is not a rebuilding year. Our goal should definitely be making the finals at year’s end.
That said, I had us locked in for a spoon three peat prior to Chrissie.
Since then we have signed Luai, Olam and moved on Noffa and the injury prone Blore. This has changed my mindset. I hope it has done so with the squad as well.
We’ll get a good look at them in 2 weeks.

We didn’t have the cattle for it. He tried to play that style to start off the year, but quickly had to abandon it. It was hilarious to watch, cos you could see that style was so far beyond this squad.
So said a few players as well I might add.

But it seemed to me Tim didn’t ask them for the world either.

The large number of self inflicted errors we made in those early rounds last year, they haunted us for the balance of the season.

The handful of poor games- they were the catalyst for the destruction of Tim, by the taking out of his recruitment chum… with the board tumbling in step.

The footballing recession we simply had to have.

We will get a good look at them, but I’m not making any selection calls or observations until I see them in real time on the go.

I’ll say start of round 5 should see the end of bewilderment and then we can “cosy up” to the seasons venting, blunt glibness and deranged missives.

Proportionally subdued if we can see progress.

I’m more enthralled by the prospects of our “fresh and supple meat of youth for the grinder” than Olam and salad etc.

We have the opportunity to make really strong, powerful, skilful and consistent players out of them.

And my D.

We chopped and changed our halves so much last year that our attack was outright dysfunctional. I’ve seen schoolboys teams look more organised.

Guess what, this year will be more chopping and changing in the halves, it’s just about guaranteed.

So we need to be a defensive team who improves our attack as we go on. It’s a recipe to chase a third spoon but I am hoping they can surprise me.

I’m hoping we get some kind of halves outcome by round 5.

But I’ll take it to round 6, in deference to your footy knowledge.

We should be looking to make the 8 as a minimum.
I have no doubt that Benji would have the players believing they can do that. It’s the right attitude to have and id be worried if they didn’t think that. Every side, regardless of how good they are need to have that attitude. But realistically, looking from the outside, it’s not going to happen.

man i so can't sleep. Bloody western sydney TOO HOT!

I see we have different stages at our club.

Forwards 2023- rebuild, 2024 -> Solid.
Backs ?? (when have we had a good backline?) 2024-> ? (but better).
Halves 2023 -> Tragedy, 2024 -> rebuild.

It's sad, but it is what it is. Only our forward pack is fairly intact since 2023.
We have 2x brand new halves, hence halves are a rebuild. they will be out of sync and unused to each other.
backs,... I can't say our backline is solid. I can thankfully say we have replaced some rot with some talent.

I’m not ruling anything out.

The guys are hitting the field this year with a new structure, minimal off field distractions and a coach they want to play for.

Yeah look, anything lower than 12th I'd be disappointed with, in saying that, if we lose every game by 6 points or less with this new side, that could be argued to still be a positive.

Fingers crossed for the 8, but I kinda expect 9th or 10th

Last year we had enough ball and opportunity to win plenty of games. Halves just couldn't execute.

Sullivan is a pretty exciting player and Fainu looks like a 200+ game first grader too. If we can cash in on some of these opportunities, I don't think 8th is out of the question.
