321 vs Donks

Tamou was terrible in his first spell and excellent in his second. He has very little agility and the speed of the modern game really makes the opening spells hard for him, he just can't seem to get to tackles or get into good marker position. He looked really good in second spell, making a few dominant tackles. I think he should be starting off the bench. Give the start to Stef, twal and Mikaele and then a Joe O, tamou prop rotation would be good.

I feel like teams run at tamou and garner in the opening of matches, and get richly rewarded for it. Garner is understrength but tamou just too slow to close gaps. We settled when the bench props can on.

Brooks had another great game, how many has he put together now? Hate to say it but he's turned a corner and is at least better than half the half backs in the comp.

Our defense and inability to stop the momentum of teams is still our biggest issue. The Broncos have done nothing this year, very relieved we won.

3 Douiehi
2 Laurie
1 Utoikamanu

Agree Brooks was very good as well. Team still some defensive issues, although I thought two Broncos tries came after poor calls from the match officials. Not turning over any ball in the second half really helped.

I'm not sure how to split my points. I think Brooks, Doueihi , Laurie and Stef are all deserving.

I agree that Brooks controlled the attack, even if it meant spooning the ball along. But he decided where it should go, and was creating the space for Douehi and Laurie to take advantage of. I do have a question though. Can Doueihi and Laurie play on both sides of the field, or only on the right? Because our attack in the second half was mostly down the right, where both of them were. In the first half, it seemed more like Doueihi on right / Laurie on left, and to me it seemed Laurie wasn't taking on the line as much on the left and not drawing defenders, which meant Pauga and Maumolo didn't have as much space.

I could be wrong, just something I thought I noticed :/

The bloke with 5 try assists doesn’t get a point?

Has to learn to tackle. There are no excuses for missing first up contact. Brooks had three try assists today and played beautifully, although you wouldn't know it on this forum.

I’ve given Brooks a lot of credit the past month but IMO he was fairly quiet tonight. I thought AD was exceptional. We wouldn’t have won without him.

Agree, we would not have won without AD.

After scoring 8 tries and with AD having 5 try assists, that leaves 3 - and with Kenny try assisting Pauga, Laurie assisting Talau and Mbye assisting Stefano - I fail to see how Brooks had 3 try assists. Do some people watch the games as the rest of us?

Why do we have to make this some sort of measuring contest?

They both combined well

If Brooks didn’t have a hand in any of those tries as you say, then why was he the first person to receive the ball in 2 of the tries we scored on the right edge?

Best 3 all year, Brooks 4th

Which also means that the recruitment team has in fact done a fantastic job, there aren't many teams who can boast about 3 or more of their recently signed players who were all from other clubs.

Except they are also the retention team, we won’t go there.

Same for me. Laurie such a competitor, great game from AD and Stef as well.

Laurie had a night out, AD superb at 6, Stef led from the front

Firstly - I am not making it a contest between any players.

Secondly - I don't who care who touches the ball when - however when a poster says player A had three try assists ... (definition of a try assist is a player who passes the ball to another player who scores)... when he clearly did not. Then I make a comment to correct the post...which I did.

Now there are plenty of people who think that the third last player who straightens the attack then passes to player A who passes to B who scores is responsible for the assist ....however it is not marked that way ...so no bikkies for that player by definition.

There is no contest - it is either a try assist or it isn't.

It’s a flawed term imo

That wonky grubber kick that Doueihi put in…was the most uncoordinated play from 3 donkeys players I’ve ever seen - counts as a try assist for Doueihi

I can’t remember who said it on the telecast, maybe slater on the Laurie try…Brooks gets the ball and sort of jinks / puts the defensive line in two minds then straightens the attack. He committed two defenders and then passed to Doueihi who had the final pass.

All the credit goes to Doueihi because he’s 2nd receiver but really the try was created from our #7 sucking in the defense

Not the point I was making.

The try assist goes to AD - is it right, is it wrong - doesn't matter that is the judgement.

There are stacks of players who do not get credit for a try assist that are the reason the try is scored.
