I wonder, just wonder if we lose these guys, if we might make a late play for Jack Bird. We'll have the cash and most likely the coach.

It's very easy to get him. He doesn't like playing in the centre's and that's the reason he wants to leave the sharks.
His preference is at half or fullback. He wants more of the ball.
We have a fullback so the choice is obvious who he can replace. Please Tigers make this happen.
We just have to match the 900k a season Parramatta and Newcastle are offering. I'd give him a cool million.

Its pipe dream stuff thinking we can sign him if we retain Tedesco and co. But its possible if we don't because we'll be cashed up. If we lose Tedesco and Moses just ask him which position he wants. Both will be available.

It's not a pipe dream. It's a reality if we had someone there to make the tough decisions.
Brooks and Moses both are looking for more than 600k. Cut just one of them now and make the play for Bird. Cap is going up, Farah salary is available. No reason we can't.
I hope Cleary is reading this.

Woods now is waiting to see how the team performs before committing, whereas last week he wanted to know who the coach was going to be before committing, I wonder what the excuse will be next week. Obviously McQueen had no problem signing once he was satisfied with his contract. I gather the longer he waits the more speculation mounts about offers from rival clubs and his agent then tries to increase his contract with the Tigers. Hopefully Cleary or Hasler or whoever signs with the Tigers over the next week so we can finally get some closure on the coach issue and then establish which of the big 4 are staying or leaving!!

Good point. Great captain isn't he.

You are implying Woods won't commit to the team until we play better football. You are twisting his words. Woods is getting interviewed by all and sundry because the coach is gone and he's the next senior public head, and anything he says gets dissected and criticised.

He doesn't say he is waiting to see how the team performs before committing. Read all his comments on the weekend, listen to the interviews and the press conference. Woods says he hasn't set a time frame for deciding his next contract, he is focusing on playing better football right now, focussed on feeling that the entire team is playing better football, then worrying about his contract.

I think it's actually good captain material, that he is focussed on the results and performance right now rather than his own contract issues, that he will sit down to work out his future once he is happier with the present form.

The idea that your club captain comes out and speaks in the most complicated and sensitive team times, then people nitpick his choice of words, not being strong enough or vocal enough to their liking.

I overall missed the part where the club captain had to be a great media man. Anyone can do that, Beau Ryan can do that, the club captain needs to lead on the field and on the training paddock. Was Robbie Farah a good club captain? Because he was rubbish in the media, so divisive and caught out with private comments.

Enough of this nitpicking of Woods' interviews.

The article states "Just two days after Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said he would impose a deadline on the club’s four off-contract stars, Woods told The Daily Telegraph he wants to see how the team performs before committing". Not my words but what was printed so I am not implying anything other than what was supposedly quoted to the journalist. So if you took the time to read what I said you would have noticed I didn't twist his words but quoted directly what he said!!!!!!!

Woods actual words

“I just want to play some consistent footy first and be excited about the footy the team is playing, and then we’ll sit down and sort things out. But I haven’t even thought about it.”

Journalists Interpretation of actual words

Woods told The Daily Telegraph he wants to see how the team performs before committing.

There is a difference,,

I tweeted this back in 2014, I was 14 years old.

@NothingButWT @gcmayer If it is three years it is rubish retention on behalf of our club Teddy, Nofa, Woods, Brooks, Moses all off in 2017

The fact that the club didn't see it coming says something.

Haha, u knew more than Grant Mayer. Im 14 now

Grant probably knew he wouldn't be here when it came time to renew. Someone else's problem.

I did take the time to read what you said, I can direct quote you if need be:

I would argue you didn't take time to read what Woods actually said, as Geo notes, you are quoting the journo and not the player. Fair enough the journo did the twisting, but that's his job to get a headline out of it, that's what journos do, and you went along with it.

It's that easy!

Doesn't Tedesco want a cool million? Why would Tedesco leave us after being offered a cool million but Jack Bird join?

Your right, I quoted what the article said "is waiting to see how the team performs before committing", not my words, not my inference but what is stated in the article, sorry if stating what is printed offends you. You stated that I inferred something when in fact I just repeated what was said in the article, but again sorry for repeating what was actually printed in the article as it obviously offended you!!.

I never said Tedseco to leave us. Not following what you trying to say.
We can pay two guys a million. Not a problem.
Look at the other overpaid plodders. By 2018 we have the cash.
Jack Bird wants to play half. He won't start here at fullback. It's just his two preferences that Cronulla have filled up already. He hates playing centre. Not enough ball.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in 2014 wouldn't have Brooks and Moses been off contract at the end of 2016? It was only the extensions they signed last year which put us in this predicament.

Ah ok, 5/8th then.

They had a year in their option.

If Woodsy was to leave how would Teddy and the rest interpret that? Surely any doubts about the direction the club is heading in would be exacerbated. Despite what some people might think of Woodsy he is respected by the other players. If he resigns with our club it's a step in the right direction if he doesn't then the chances of Teddy and/or Mitch going becomes greater. And should the Dogs get Woodsy it would not surprise me at all if they went after one of them as well. It'd be a lot of money but they'd find it somehow.

This last week and especially the last 24 hrs I have found myself wholly unconvinced and utterly disappointing by Woods.
The interview this morning on Big Sports Breaky was EMBARRASSING.
As far as I am concerned he can go jump.

What did he say? I'm sure he was as non committal as ever.
