Gus Gould made these comments about Woods on the weekend…

“I think he is potentially a very good forward. However, he needs to learn what actually makes a good forward and what makes a valuable team member”.

Obviously not an admirer

Enjoying Gus back on twitter, you either like him or don't but you can tell he cares about the game.

He was tweeting when he was calling the game. Possibly fake???

He usually tweets after the games

Snap.

Thanks for the non-specific advice Gus. I actually can't figure out what Gus means - that Woods is both not a good forward and not a valuable team member? You think a little constructive advice wouldn't go astray here.

I think he did tell us.

The emphasis should be on the word TEAM

For mine he said that he could be a better player if he focused more on the team needs rather than his own interests.

So are you saying that Woods is to self absorbed cares more about him self then the team and needs to feel like the big fish in a small pond with the media asking for his opinions nonstop and its affected his game at Canterbury not being the big fish so much so that he has lost his origin Jersey is that it ?

Its simple for Woods if he wants to turn his career around

He needs to think run hard at the line , post contact metres facing forwards first and THEN if his hands are free think about an offload and if not land on his front and quick play the ball and create some space for his dummy half or the 6/7

What people seem to forget , the chances he will create doing this are going to get the support player in behind the opposition defensive line and are in a far more dangerous position to create chances / points

I know this is a distant memory , but he actually used to break the line under Sheens occasionally :astonished: 😱pen_mouth:

Defensively he is still effective , but a bit more aggression wouldn't go astray

Just my opinion

It’s funny lots of props, past and present, weren’t what I’d call very aggressive (Petero comes to mind) yet they weren’t critised for it like Woods constantly is. Some are hard running and aggressive, others have different skills like foot work and off loads, which I think are Woods’’ skills that need to be developed more.

He is also not the only player in the comp who backs into the opposition either, loads of players do it, yet we’re led to believe he is the only one. Perhaps he has started a new trend!

Agree. Also does not have significantly slower play balls either. Even his consistently good metres are discounted by some. Yet our two current props who have been talked up, would be lucky to match him with their metres combined on a few occasions, let alone match him individually.
When a player becomes the target of fan anger fault can be attributed to everything they do and once did.
Have seen him play better but the transition has been hardly ideal. He'll have to own some part in that and next week if the rumors are accurate we'll be facing him again. Never saw that coming.

I Think he knows what has to work on. I seem to remember reading that one of the reasons he wanted to go to the dogs was so he could pick up on the aggro from James Graham. Well we know which way that went.

Gus is right. Front rowers role is to make metres, hit the ground and getup quick to play the ball, intimidate forwards and be able to defend stoutly dominating tackles. If they can use the ball and offload it’s a bonus.

Woods makes metres. He doesn’t do any of the other elements that make front towers great. He needs to sit down with Glen Lazarus who just did his job and laid a platform for his halves to dominate. I think he would be the worst buy at any price as young Twal is a Lion he needs more game time.

Maybe he should try growing his hair.

And call him Samson

More like Delilah.

Why why why Delilah…..why why why....

Look, Woods should count his lucky stars...ummm I mean money....He is on $800-900k where his real value is half that...every club knows that.....he can thank the Tigers for his inflated salary as he was on about 650K with us and even that was overs....

I'd take him back, only if we can swap McQueen for him....
