Adam Doueihi #227

He knows the game pretty well, and as stated has a great pass. I think he could play the structured half role well with brooks using his running game at 6. I’d also offer addo Carr good money to come back and try the fullback role. (As he is requesting] it would be a potent attacking spine.
1. Addo Carr
6. Brooks
7. AD
9. Liddle

Obviously fullback until end of this season

Absolutely agree with him. I might add as well that AD is not a 7, not even in a pink fit.

After 14 rounds my summary:

Cons:
No speed
Defence as fullback suspect

Pros:
Great Step
Fantastic under the high ball
Awesome passing game
Can kick uncatchable bombs

Think you’re spot on. He makes good metres running the footy back too.

Yep, indeed he does.

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but how does Gould make that assessment when he's never played fb? As a winger, he's got very little opportunity to showcase fb like skills.

He may be right, but just not sure how anyone can say it with certainty.

I think Gould has a very smart football brain, I personally (when he is not trying to be smart a..)
place a lot of faith in his judgement. The gist of the article was that managers are trying to get
their charges to upgrade to a higher position to get more money. Gould thinks JAC is trying to
do this.

I agree with him. For a guy who has never played FB in the NRL and sign him on FB money -
I think is a huge risk, I would not like to see the Tigers take that risk.

Love to sign him as a winger as I have said before - not as a FB.

If we only ever want to pay market value for players we'll never sign any stars. We have to pay overs. Get over it....

Doueihi is going well. And at his price can be slotted anywhere in the backline with reasonable expectations. Hope a full off season brings back his zip

There are a lot of different types of fullbacks with different skill sets. The best, like Slater and Tedesco have all the skills but even Ponga and Turbo have weak spots.

In attack Ponga plays as 5/8 on the left, Pearce plays as an on the ball halfback in the middle, controls the game and is the support player in the middle. They have a game plan that uses the strengths of both players and covers their weaknesses.

The Tigers halves that mostly stick to their sides with the 9 controlling point of attack. They do occasionally use Doueihi on both sides as a playmaker outside the halves and it has worked well. What we are missing is a support player in the middle.

There are many ways to use your 1,6,7,9 and 13 the main thing is to have someone covering all the jobs that need to be done.

This interests me. Elijah Taylor should have been that ball-playing 13. He was in 2016, then once Jason Taylor was sacked, we never saw it again.

ET was a revelation when he first arrived. Has been under appreciated since imo.

if 609k for AD then absolutely go after JAC big time, JAC is a gamebreaker at wing and even worth a shot at fullback. As a club we will need to pay overs to get him anyway and with have AD who can try 6 or centre anyway if JAC succeeds at fb.

JAC can come here and play wing ....wing is his only spot,we need stability and a very strong backline,he is a great finisher and shouldnt try any other position...AD will improve at fb even more next year,he is great under high balls, passes great and can kick, why move him to accomodate a player that has not played that position before and could fail,he could do well, but we need to start recruiting specialist players in specialist positions,we have been there done that and havent played finals for nine years...the Sheens days are well behind us ...

Just on AD and his speed,I reckon he has a niggling injury but keeps playing because we dont have a suitable depth player if he goes out,Mbye could do the job but not much to cover...I reckon we will see a different AD next year...

Storm (C.Smith) and Canberra (J.Hodgson) use their 9 as the game controller, the person that kicks to the corners, decides to pass the ball to a prop for a hitup or to a half for a backline attack.

Manly (Jake) and Roosters (V.Radley) often use their 13 as the ball distributor to the forwards or halves, deciding where to attack.

If we could use Grant as that middle controller, Brooks on the left, Doueihi on the right with a fast fullback who's main job in attack was to be there in support when breaks were made, I think we would be a much better team.

Would rather Doueihi play 6 and we spend fullback dollars on an actual fullback.

The option of playing fullback will offer an incentive to come.. Reality is if the choice is between us or roosters on similar coin.. He isn't coming here. So the options are over pay him as a winger or give him him the opportunity that he cannot get elsewhere.

As for Phil Gould or any of those experts, it easy to a shell out a million reasons why something won't work but nobody is coming up with comments on what could work for us.

What has Doueihi shown from Fullback to suggest he would be a good 6?

He's thrown 1 or 2 passes all season.

Mbye has more try assists from Centre than Doueihi from FB.

Doueihi's height gives him an advantage when catching bombs at FB...admittedly he's pretty good in that department, but the rest of his game needs plenty of work.

No turn of foot = no threat at fullback

He has a good turn of pace when fit. Add to that his height he is a difficult player to contain.
