Interesting Tim Mannahs love for Cayless and Douiehi saying Hastings is "filling in at 6".

If they win hd won't be filling in anywhere

Exactly & I actually believe Douiehi is a better centre than a number 6. We can use his height out wide to catch cross field bombs & kicks. I recall a game he played against Manly last year where he was awesome & probably had his best game for the year he was playing left centre. I also believe Brooks is a running number 6 with Hastings as our organiser that will take the pressure off him & if Madge uses him as a running number 6 then he will have his best year ever.

Wishful thinking, but as long as Hastings is competitive and dogged in his pushing the boys around the park, then I’d suppose it’s quite possible he’s no fill in

Reynolds did the exact same thing when he was here. It’s great to have that competitiveness, but it gets thrown around like it’s the be all, end all. He needs to step up to a level he’s been away from for 4 years.

Hastings has more strings to his bow than JR ever had.

Reynolds played Origin.

So did Dean Young and Jamie Buhrer, both glorified reserve-graders. Not sure what your point is.

Hastings hasn’t, that’s my point.

Not many players get chosen to play Origin after only a handful of games in 1st grade.

It was just mentioned in another thread that he still has 5 months of rehab to go. So assuming he’s just gonna walk back into the side and be the answer if we are struggling is way too premature. He’ll most likely play a few games for the Magpies too. We might not see him back in first grade till round 17-18.

I thought that Doueihi stated, or was qouted that he was on track for playing assessment in April.

he's the most natural 6 we've got and is a massive talent who's still only **22**

**23**

**24** soon too, if I’m not mistaken?

**25** next year

Sounds like Adam's a leapling, and his age is being confused by calculating his number of his birthdays which happens only every four years.

The last leap year was in 2020,
If Adam is now **22** this would mean that Adam was **20** in 2020,

Which would mean that Adam would be **24** at his next birthday and not 24 this year or 25 next year but **24 in 2024**.

This is the unfortunate thing of being a leapling, but hang on a minute!
Is Adam actually a leapling?

Geez so insightful, I'm having another beer, after all I'm 64, no wait, 65 next year.

Where AD plays will depend on how Brooks and Hastings go in the first few rounds. If they aren’t firing he comes back at 5/8 with whoever is deemed weaker dropped from the halves. If things are going well centre it is.

**Adam’s versatility will ensure he has a place in the 13** each week but works against him for locking down a position

I think that’s to his detriment. He’s in the same boat as Mbye, can’t cement one position. People will tell you he’s a 6, yet he was supposed to be our 6 last year and was shifted in to the centres after 8 or 10 rounds. I think like Mbye, he’ll be whatever the team needs at the time. Better player than Mbye though.

Agree. He has strong leadership qualities so hopefully he locks something down.

Will waste his career if we turn him into a utility. Needs to stay at 6 and own it

Totally agree. He could slot into the centres as well. He needs to stick to one position though and own that position.

Adam isnt picking his position, Madge and the club are. Its not the clubs role to ensure everyone has a good and well rounded career, the coach needs to pick the best player for each position.

IMO there is a risk that AD's utility value might be a problem for him. He is a well rounded footy player but IMO not an out and out specialist in any. Good runner at 6 but poor passing game and below par defence. Possibly the best centre we have. Not a 7.

As others have said, his size and lack of outright pace could see him in the 2RF or lock but not sure he will ever have the size to be dominant there.

Those suggesting Adam could end up in the backrow are on the money in my opinion.
I think Doueihi at lock would give the team the best chance to get the most out of his talents.

His running game would transition easily to the role. Motor and defence the concerns to overcome. I would be super excited if our halves are settled by the time Adam comes back and he has a crack at lock. It allows us to use all his best attributes.

It's a big no for me to put him in the centres. He is a game breaker, and there were way too many games last year that he didn't see enough ball when playing in the centres. 5/8 or lock IMO. Possibly edge backrow as 3rd choice. Centre is the last option.

Dont disagree with anything you've said, but I also think that at this stage (not withstadning his injury) AD is the best centre in the club and there are potentially other players as good as him or better for the other positions.

Dare I say it AD is a younger, taller, better(?) version of Peachey?

also look's like a dumb version of Freddy Fittler,at this stage

I'd take any version of Freddy in Black Gold & White.....but is there a smart version?

not if Brooks and Hastings do a good job in halves he doesn't, he fits in where he is required

I don't think the forwards is a great option for a bloke with questionable defence and a history of bad injuries.
5/8 or centre.

Agree. Bit of work to turn him into a second row and we are flush with talent.
No point and too talented to waste

This. He has no fixed position. He’ll fit in where he’s needed.

He's our Red Adair of the NRL team.
