After Benchy, another senior player must be dropped.

Some of you remember how critical of Benchy Marshall I've been over the past few years and despite many of you defending his miserable performances, most of you were of the same opinion as myself.

Finally, we got the result we needed after Potter grew a pair. Something that Sheens was never able to do.

No it's the time to criticise another senior player that's eating up a substantial slice of our salary cap and his form has been terrible in the past few years.

Chris Lawrence!

Now, some of you will say he had some bad injuries which is true but his performances were well below par prior to those hip and hamstring injuries and it must be said that after a fair amount of time on the sidelines and game time, he hasn't been able to deliver at all. Lawrence has always been a 'stiff' type player with limited ball skills and turn style type defense but since his return from that hip injury, these areas are substantially worse.

He has lost a tonne of pace, bombed numerous tries by not passing when there are obvious overlaps - I can recall two bombed tries at Leichardt when he didnt pass to Richards (In my opinion, this is because he does his best not to expose his passing weakness, particularly to his right side), doesnt talk much for a senior player and is a shadow of his former self.

Look at what happened to the side when we got rid of our biggest dead wood, Benchy. Its time, we move on from Lawrence and either use that money to buy someone who can actually play to NRL standards or blood in another junior in the hope he may turn out like Simona. Otherwise, I would prefer a Lulia/Simona combination.

Lawrence is not up to standard and needs to be dropped.

Thoughts?

I agree, he just isn't a centre anymore.

Let's look at his positives:
-can hit hard one on one.
-very strong running game.

I think if his future lies anywhere it maybe in the back row.

He's definitely big enough, but IMO, too slow for centers.

He just doesn't being that X factor that he used to have.

can we pls start with Anasta first and then work our way around ?

Totally agree mate but I think we'll just have to put up with him until the end of the season. I agree that Anasta is the number 1 guy that needs to go but it's his last year and he won't be re-signed so, its Lawrence that needs to be axed.

This is a tired old argument. Love it or hate it, Rowdy will always have a place in the 17 when he's fit.

Frankly, I thought he'd been playing O.K. the last few weeks. Maybe he's not going to win us a game anymore, but to me he still plays like a solid first grader. Might be on too much coin for his current level, but we'll have to live with that I think. I'd be keeping him. It's not as if there's a real lot of centre talent out there.

He's going fine. Not worth 300k but we signed him on that when he was on track to be the best center in the world.

He'll start when fit and based on his efforts this year should (considering the replacements we have there)

Made me some nice moolah on dream team too!

Good points lads but I have to disagree with you that Lawrence's form has been good. It's been WAY below par for a player on 200k let alone 450k-500k. The worst part is that he's signed until 2016! We should be shopping him around ASAP.

Watch him closely guys…for these things:

1: Doesnt pass often and when he does, he looks awkward and the pass rarely hits its mark putting the player catching it under pressure;

2: Runs towards the sideline often and bundled into touch or passes just before the line and the player catching it gets pushed into touch:

3: Not an Anasta typle slug but very SSLLOOWWW:

4: He can pull off a hit now and then but his defense is deplorable:

5: Just look at his stats after every game. NOT a worker, very little line breaks, never creates second phase cause he never offloads, metres are down etc.

Anasta is going at season's end but are we seriously supposed to accept this rubbish until the end of 2016?

The 300k youre referring to was years ago. His contract was back ended (increasing every year) meaning hes on close to $500k now.

lawrence obviously isnt as effective as he used to be but unlike marshall or blair in the past or even ayshford last year- rowdy keeps trying and trying.

he is a great clubman.

besides, who do we have to replace him? next year if we get a couple of decent outside backs (or possibly move nofo to centre), i think lawrence will have a great future in the backrow.

if this thread popped up last year or early this year, i would've understood your concerns but especially after his past few performances- he in no way deserves to be dropped.

which means he took a pay decrease years ago, and his current value is inflated…

That's a lot of coin for Rowdy???

He has been pretty good this year, okay for the job he is doing (being used as a battering ram) he is probably being paid way over the odds, but unless a club is willing to pick up most of the tab, we have him for the next two and half years.

Anyway I dont see anyone from within who at present is better and until the six and seven start creating some real space for him I dont see his attack getting much better.

There are a few long term players whose time is drawing near, Rowdy would be one I wouldnt be renewing, Kilo another, Anasta will finish up this year.

While they may not be playing top line footy, all of them….its a lot of experience to lose and thats something thats crucial for a young team

I dont think sudden sackings are in order

His form over the last few weeks has been quite impressive compared to previous seasons, I believe he's averaged over 120m in his last 5 games. He finally looks to be threatening the defensive line and with an extra yard of pace he'd be making those breaks or setting up his outside man. I think he truly is getting back to his best.

Have to disagree. Lawrence is easily the best option we have currently. I would even argue he is in better form than Simona at the moment.

We have plenty of back rowers and are very thin in the centres. It won't be happening and nor should it, that is unless you would perfer the slower and far less effective Lulia.

On Triple M ( yes I know they are wrong most of the time ) - show me the money segment on Saturdays they said Rowdy was on 600k a year - I nearly ran the car off the road - surely he is not on that sort of coin and if he is he needs to be shopped around.

Not worth big dollars but you can not have a superstar in every position. I am more than happy for him to stay there.
