Alex Seyfarth #232

Noticed some aggro in him late last year we had never seen and was hopeful hed bring it to this season which he mainly has all bar one game, one of the trials I think
Maybe theyre all enjoying training more, the agressive attitude from the forwards is rubbing off on each other
I’ve been watching the game at all levels for a long long time and have never seen a youngish player be a regular standout in Reserve Grade/NSW Cup that cannot reproduce that form at NRL level given the opportunity.
Seyfarth could not have been more impressive for our NSW Cup team last season and brought that form to NRL when playing very well for us late last season.
Many people do not stop and think that many young players, particularly forwards do not have the confidence, self belief and maturity to fulfil their talent at a youngish age. Sure some are ready at 19 or 20, but others take an extra couple of years to maximise their talent.
Seyfarth is a prime example of this and I think we have a few others in our squad which will take a similar path.

Last two weeks he has been better but he can't have the huge gulf between performances in Rd 2 compared to Rds 3 and 4
I think him coming off the bench is his role. In rd 2 he didnt seem up to matching the bigger forwards who were completely fresh. Put him on a bit later and his aggression appears far more effective.

He has saved his career in the past 2 weeks. After getting a huge opportunity to start the season at 13 he failed miserably. I feared that was it for him.

He was lucky to stay in the 17 but lucky for him Benji kept him. I guess this is his role now, come on and play super high energy. It's actually been quite an effective role. Usually that impact comes from a more powerful fast twitch type of guy, but Seyfarth is showing there is value in his type of work with fresh legs against tiring legs.

Twal is under pressure now really which hurts me to say. But Seyfarth, Samuela, Pole, Stef and Klem can all play big minutes, so while we are defending like this, a big motored defender like Twal isn't necessary.

He's the perfect player to use from the bench when your team is out on their feet defending set after set on their line... He's a tackling machine and just absorbs whatever pressure is being thrown at him. Very one-dimensional player but if he's used to his strengths he's extremely useful to a successful footy team

Agreed but looks like he is adding another dimension to his play.

He can cross the line. That's 2x tries this year, which is pretty good for someone in the front row.

Okay, may need to work on his grounding... but good to see.

He is a keeper. Lets see how Naden goes but by having 2x centers who can score we suddenly can rattle people in attack. The way Api just slips the ball out to team mates is awesome.

Well he has added another dimension, line crossing.

Yes Seyfarth is a toiler. But glad to see him cross the line and being ready to recieve the ball. 2x this year and a few tries last year.

One of the big problems of last year were line crossing options. Bula was really one of the few crossing the line and that let him be marked.

You suddenly add Olam, Faaalagu and have a few forwards who can recieve the ball... You get your attack back.

Now if our centers just pass when they are isolated, we will see us become an attacking machine. Which we can do now with defensive pressure.

I have come here to marvel at one thing, people can bag him all they want but the bloke is 25. thats young for a forward and already is one of our most consistent and best even with poor discipline. I'd be looking for a longer term deal for the guy, and keep developing him to a bigger role.

I was one who put him on my list of players we could loose , but I have to say he has had a great season , really puts in , fix hi silly stuff up and he is a great player off the bench , extend him if he is off contract x 2 years or 3 years for a fair price to the club

I actually think he has more dimensions then we realise. He has often showed nice ball skills mixed in with his effort play areas. His line running is improving, certainly improving on the right hand side. When he plays on the left it looks a little unnatural to him. A few months back he was one of our best playing right edge against St Geroge, then Benji moved him back to the bench. It was a strange move. I often wonder how he would look right now if he was there from that game. He is a steadily improving type of player, and Benji wasted 2 months of his development in the position he is playing now.
