Lee on SEN now saying he will be pushing the NRL to ensure that players requesting releases on compassionate grounds cannot profit from the release and that their remuneration should remain the same for the remaining period on the defaulted contract.

I agree with him. Should generate support from all clubs.

If this constant defaulting on contracts stops it should arrest the rapid rate of increasing player salaries.

This would stop players leaving for any financial incentive (as far as anyone can see legally at least), but if a player simply wants out to play for another club then this instead will benefit the club they're heading to (and open up more options for the player, since every club only needs to pay this set amount). So it's a step in the right direction, but only half the puzzle.

Makes sense, nice sentiment, would change nothing. Contracts would simply be backended.

Dont think Manly would be doing anything untoward it probably just comes down to the amount of available cap space for next year that they can include in the offer.

Of course it's untoward. You cant make a contract contingent on breaking another legally binding contract.

Should have said illegal. Clubs have released players before who they dont want when they have been offered contracts that were too good to refuse - Esan Marsters.

Our club can’t catch a break can it. Of all the luck, it’s always us. An off season drama every off season since 2015. You don’t have to be angry about it (I’m not) but your head is in the sand if you think the club aren’t unprofessional. The CEO can’t even be bothered dressing and grooming himself for God’s sake. But it’s the players fault. I don’t think so.

Politely advised said club I wouldn’t be renewing my 2020 membership, to which they advised it’s not in their policy to give a refund (which I didn’t ask for) of monies I haven’t paid for 2021.

Ay carumba!

Not sure what your point is?
You advised you are not continuing with membership and they let you know there policy on the matter
All good

1. Get confirmation he won't honour contract.
2. Get injunction and make him sit out 2021.
3. Get NRL to confirm he's not counted in the cap.
4. Move on.

Time to teach these blokes a lesson from the real world.

We ran over a black cat and a bloody black parrot.
For some of us long suffering magpies it’s familiar territory.

I can’t blame players for accepting bigger money deals at different clubs, footy is a business and it’s a short career

What’s absolutely disgusting is when players sign a deal a year in advance and then carry on, bad mouth their club to the media and become spoiled brats in order to get an early release. It’s absolutely classless and they shouldn’t be allowed to break their contracts

We aren’t winning a premiership next season so there’s absolutely no reason to let him go. The NRL need to make sure that if a player gets an early release they WONT be able to earn more money than their current contract.

As the SMH article states Ryan Moronson pulled the same move before. And Moses and Tapau before. It’s a direct outcome of our willingness to rollover whenever a player or rival club wants something. I’m gladdened by the language we’re using so far. Josh can decide if he wants to sit on his bum for a year or he can play out his contract.

Really hope the club holds firm on this. Can't continue to rollover.

Management are looking like the NRL equivalent of a park footy side right now.

Lee Hagipantelis needs to shut up and stick to chasing ambulances rather than offering a public commentary on the Aloiai situation.

Aloiai has performed for us and deserves some respect.

Either upgrade the bloke's contract or do a deal quietly and let him leave if someone can show us the money.

Turning it into a public drama does the club no favours.

I think the club will just sit on this . For all the bluster , and bull crap , Could it be that josh maybe is a little worried about his position ? Considering , we have Tamou , Stefano ,Musgrove and Twal , and Mikalele(he needs to lift ) , Looking very good for round 1 . I’ve stated what to do already . You want out ! Sweet ! Tell manly we need a backrower . That’s it ...

Actually there are quite few possible swaps with Manly that I could think of that would work for me .... for either or both Garner and Aloiai.

only one that i'd be satisfied with is if we got Paseka in return

Tapau I could live with

No they then double checked that I hadn’t paid for 2021 and apologised for their mix up.

Top to bottom it’s a train wreck.

I agree with the way we are dealing with it tbh. We have been perhaps the only club that has really focused on player welfare and we are treated poorly for it.
We have released players early a number of times and been belittles for it. We stand tough and we are belittled for it.

Time to make a stand and I'm glad he has said something. I'm done with all this entitlement. I love Josh one of my favs. But if it has to be him that we put our foot down with then so be it.

So you're forcing the new club to kick the can down the road and load up the cap. Good, it penalises the clubs inducing players to break contracts.

They can keep the money if it has, I’m out until they show me signs of professionalism

Rubbish! If you say you won't pull on our jersey again when you are still contracted to us, you deserve NO respect whatsoever.

Two negs to this post shows we are still in denial.

Definitely the answer is somewhere in the middle of "this club is unprofessional" and "this player is greedy", but I'd say it's skewed more towards the former.

Haha it’s all good. I triggered a few people in denial. A badge of honour.

Can’t believe the posts saying let Josh leave, the teams best forward last year, big improver, his best year with the club,a leader on the field, all the players love him,why lowball one of our best?If he does go what affect will this have on the other players
