I’m going to base my opinion on Lee with the way he handles Josh’s contract.
The guy would know law/contracts better than any of these player managers.

It's pretty clear cut. He's contracted to us and can't play anywhere unless we release him. He's not asking for a release on compassionate grounds, he wants more money. Screw him.

Actually there are quite few possible swaps with Manly that I could think of that would work for me .... for either or both Garner and Aloiai.

only one that i'd be satisfied with is if we got Paseka in return

A lot of people seem to blaming the player or his agent. At what point do we consider why this is happening every year?

Other clubs seem to keep this stuff in house. Looks what's happened with JAC and even Dragons with Saab.

To make matters worse, our Chairman has gone on record.

Madge can build a good junior base as much as he likes, but if we don't fix this rot, we will never be competitive as the juniors will just leave as they get better.

The rot being, how we are respecting and treating our players. The club is number one yes, but we need to make the players feel they are valued, and that seems to be missing.

In my profession, contractors know not to burn your bridges. Every player that leaves us I would hope we still have a good relationship with so that they'd consider coming back to us in the future. But somehow we seem to be doing the opposite.

The only time I remember seeing the quote “I will never wear the Jersey again” is when tiga4eva posted it here on the forum.
That is when he quoted Josh’s words as a conversation between him and Josh in response to Josh being lowballed by the club and given a 24hr deadline.

Seems to me someone joined to stir the pot at an opportune time for their client.

If CCTW is correct doesn’t sound like there’s much the club could do unfortunately 🙁

Push for a lengthy investigation into Manly's involvement regarding this. Maintain the hard stance of no release unless we benefit from it.

Stick the boot in and make it entertaining:grin:

If it is correct that Manly's 2022/2023 offer was contingent on him breaking a legally binding contract to go in 2021, THAT'S another issue that Lee should be investigating along with the NRL - it is illegal (or at least highly unethical) to induce the breaking of a legally binding contract in that manner.

Inducing another party to breach a contract is a tort, but you would have to prove that Manly intended to induce Aloiai to breach his contract with the Tigers by doing an act or failing to do an act that amounts to a breach of contract. Just asking for a release would not amount to a breach of contract.

Sure nots let get all legalese on here, but tortious interference occurs when one party interferes with the contracts or relationships of another party with the intent of causing economic harm. They must act intentionally to induce and obviously without written support this is hard to uphold but that seems to be the gist doing the rounds - the contract with manly is only good if he goes in 2021 so that must be written somewhere?. Thinking about it I think we should hold firm on this one. 2021 is going to be a rough year anyway. Make him stay. No trades, no deals. There's no better time to send a message.

100%

Make him play without a jersey as well.

perv

But he said he’ll never wear the jersey again ?

have look at the other posts on here listing all the other clubs and players where this is going on - it only stings because we support the WT and that we are the media's serious go to boys for stories/click bait

Our club can’t catch a break can it. Of all the luck, it’s always us. An off season drama every off season since 2015. You don’t have to be angry about it (I’m not) but your head is in the sand if you think the club aren’t unprofessional. The CEO can’t even be bothered dressing and grooming himself for God’s sake. But it’s the players fault. I don’t think so.

Politely advised said club I wouldn’t be renewing my 2020 membership, to which they advised it’s not in their policy to give a refund (which I didn’t ask for) of monies I haven’t paid for 2021.

Ay carumba!

Dont think Manly would be doing anything untoward it probably just comes down to the amount of available cap space for next year that they can include in the offer.

Of course it's untoward. You cant make a contract contingent on breaking another legally binding contract.

100%

It may as well be that Matterson and Aloiai are just after the money. And I don't think Lee should've gone on record with this at all either. Could have tried harder to handle it in-house and control how the narrative comes out.

But somehow these players always get their way.
Make him look like a huge sook and have dreadful 2021 playing for the magpies ?

Unless the journos got that quote from the forum?

We really, really stink with our speed of execution. There is no excuse. In fact, there should be drafts ready to go before we even talk to the player.

Do we know this for a fact ?

Personally I'm much more confident that this was pushed from his manager and the whole thing was deliberately pushed out until post November in order to get more offers. Then I bet they have structured the contract to make all his players happy including releasing AFB.

As the SMH article states Ryan Moronson pulled the same move before. And Moses and Tapau before. It’s a direct outcome of our willingness to rollover whenever a player or rival club wants something. I’m gladdened by the language we’re using so far. Josh can decide if he wants to sit on his bum for a year or he can play out his contract.

And I'd want more from Aloiai now. His behaviour has damaged our club, he owes us for that now. No favours to him, no way.

Two negs to this post shows we are still in denial.

Definitely the answer is somewhere in the middle of "this club is unprofessional" and "this player is greedy", but I'd say it's skewed more towards the former.

Tiga4eva - has become very quiet.

Sounds like he got used up by his mate

Then call him out on it in the middle of the year.

Teddy/Moses/Woods were elite players but their futures weren't sorted til 1/4 of their last year in. It should've been sorted before November 1 ! What we proceded to do was give them a deadline when they have 5 other offers, should have given them a deadline when only we can give them an offer.

We just cant roll over again, we need to have a spine or else it will happen time and time again. Like others have mentioned Moses, Tapau, Matterson ect ect when does it end. Enough's enough make a stand not just talk, talk is cheap.

Suspiciously quiet IMO. Noticed something 2 days ago. @tiga4eva when asked by avocadoontoast if Aloiai is leaving, Tiga4eva's response was........"I’m not sure, but I seriously doubt he ***ever wants to pull our jersey on again***. He’s still contracted for 2021".

Curious turn of phrase, strangely prophetic? #ratintheranks?

EDIT: Just noticed @needaname had already made this observation. I was a bit late.

Lee on SEN now saying he will be pushing the NRL to ensure that players requesting releases on compassionate grounds cannot profit from the release and that their remuneration should remain the same for the remaining period on the defaulted contract.

I agree with him. Should generate support from all clubs.

If this constant defaulting on contracts stops it should arrest the rapid rate of increasing player salaries.

This would stop players leaving for any financial incentive (as far as anyone can see legally at least), but if a player simply wants out to play for another club then this instead will benefit the club they're heading to (and open up more options for the player, since every club only needs to pay this set amount). So it's a step in the right direction, but only half the puzzle.
