America - Gun Control

Munk - did you just admit that legal guns actually killed little kids as well as adults. I'll try and explain this to you really slowly. Blanket bans on guns would have a massive impact on the mass shootings. Just try and grasp that concept because it's reality.

How far gun reform gets pushed is open to debate but stop trying to deny the reality of the current situation and the potential for gun reform to have a massive impact in relation to minimising mass shootings and the overall homicide rate.

Try not to argue with the facts of the situation anymore.

That is not fact it is opinion.

Actually it's not. That is why you are really struggling and showing how uninformed and in fact stupid your opinion is. No guns = much less killings.

I accept that reality is that isn't happening in America however the further they move down that path the less that these incidents will happen.

Honestly you need to just take a massive step back because you lack the ability to comment on this issue because you cannot be rational.

That is not fact, it is opinion.
Ill give you a fact though Earl to counter your misinformed opinions…a governmental and inter-agency world small arms survey conducted by Reuters last year concluded that Switzerland had the third highest amount of guns per capita in the world yet had the worlds lowest gun related homicide rate.
If your opinion was factual, how could this be possible when it is the exact opposite of your "fact"? Hint its not possible because your "facts" contain no evidence. The FBI and the US DOJ agree releasing stats declaring that as gun ownership has increased, serious gun related crime has decreased. That is a fact.

That said, mass shootings are gaining popularity in America and those who really care about solving the riddle as to why are looking outside the narrow minded view of "theres heaps of guns around". Other "gun cultures" such as Switzerland and Finland do not suffer the mass shootings America does. There are far more contributing factors.

Munk - it's not opinion. That is what you can't seem to grasp. Mass shootings happen because of crazy people and availability of guns. You can never pick a crazy person but you can do something about access to guns.

You keep digging yourself into a hole with your dumb reasoning.

Your logic is completely stupid. I'll try and point it out to you but I bet you still won't get it because you obviously haven't learnt how to think logically. There are some statistical anomalies that occur and your example is exactly that. All you are doing is playing with numbers because gun ownership is so high and when it went a little higher it was just an uncorrelated reason that crime went down. That stat will change again if you look at it at another time. It's data-mining and not using your brain. You are also conveniently missing the fact that America has so many homicides and it isn't comparable to other developed countries.

You cannot get around the fact that a gun ban would stop the mas killings from happening. That is reality. If guns were less available it would happen less often as well.

I'm going to point out yet another massive flaw in your stupid arguments as well. Finland has a population of 5 odd million and Switzerland 8 odd million. Australia has a population of approximately 25 million and the US 325 million. I hope you realise that yet again you are trying to compare irrelevant statistics. You are comparing very different situations and trying to conclude that it's not guns that are the problem. It's another example of data-mining and not being able to use your brain.

I honestly think you need to take a massive step back because you are embarrassing yourself. You need to go and do a course on statistics and on logical reasoning because currently you cannot discern between reality and fantasy.

Lots of words and still no facts. You havent provided any yet, just opinion.

Gun restriction won't stop mass killings. It will make them far harder to achieve though.

This is most probably true but I would add that mass shootings seem to occur after serious planning and as such if they want them theyll get them. It is a myth that mass shootings are perpetrated by "crazy" people. They are conducted by either hatred filled or fanatical individuals. Gun restriction may make a small dent but in reality it is putting a bandaid on a broken leg and will result in substitue problems elsewhere.

Earl I brought up Switzerland and Finland to counter your opinion that more guns = more killing. It is not correct and i have proven that to you on a number of occasions with these two examples just adding to the pile. You on the other hand have proven nothing except how petulant you are.

Im going to use the foe button as you are seriously so dumb its making my head hurt. Have a nice life.

Isn't a small dent worth it….

It is as long as it is not seen as the only solution. The problem wont just go away because guns are restricted. There are many moving parts to this issue.

I assume by your username that you are 55 years old. If i have to explain the above to you then there is a problem dont you think?

Obvious evasion after being caught in a lie noted

Ok here it is you dullard ( this is for the dunces who agree as well)
Most gun crime in America is perpetrated by criminals with illegal weapons. Banning guns will do NOTHING to stop this. These weapons are smuggled, illegally imported and illegally sold by criminal dealers. In no way whatsoever can the tightening of legislation on guns solve this problem. You guys just do not understand this problem and are just reactionary bedwetters on this issue.

As for your silly analogy on homeland security, Legislation and tighter controls does have an effect as has been proven hundreds of times since 911\. Its not hard MG and someone your age should have been able to work this out for themselves.

So why does it work in countering terrorism (your claim) but can not possibly work with restricting illegal gun control?

In the days after the Vegas attack, there was lots of hand ringing and nashing of teeth about the fact nothing can be done. The NRA opposed the limiting of a device used in the attack that even the US army does not use because it is too dangerous.

Two days after the attack in New York, bicycle lanes are modified to stop any other attacks of this type.

I might be a bed wetting dullard but I am still smart enough to recognize hypocrisy when I encounter it.

You know you've got problems when a bloke walks into a church and starts shooting:

But guns aren't the problem, because someone found statistics that show more guns make the people safer :unamused:

I suppose it's all about risk mitigation. I concede that even if you did implement tough restrictions on the US in respect to semis and fully autos you would likely still see mass shootings over a number of years until most of the arms are repossessed or handed in. Illegal weapons generally were once legal. Take away the supply of legal weapons and there's less chance they'll become illegal, and in addition those illegal arms become scarcer and will become more expensive on the black market. Then your average gangbanger will struggle to even get their hands on one.

I honestly think any politicians who think gun control measures are worthwhile are looking at it and putting it in the too hard basket, as they know there'll be a spate of shootings once the controls are put in place and they'll be lambasted as not working and the gun lobby will buy out the next government to repeal whatever measures are put in place.

Like I said, if anything were have ever to been done, it would have been after the autistic kid walked into a school and shot a class full of small children. I think the bridge has long been crossed and there's no going back.

Just in case it has not been stated earlier in this thread there is a much quicker means of settling this squabble just back to back, walk ten paces with your pairs of six shooters - worked for John Wayne every time.

No one is arguing that guns kill people.

But what no one has been able to come up with, after 30 pages, is any suggestion for gun control legislation that would actually stop something like this, or Vegas, or any other massacre, from happening.

If you have a suggestion for legislation, like an actual suggestion and not just 'ban guns' or other empty slogans, then i am all ears.

I see there is another mass shooting in a church in America…I honestly think that a complete reformation of the act that allows possession of firearms has to be imminent..
much more stringent licensing and the purchasing of firearms must be first and foremost..that leaves the problem of the firearms that exist at the moment in the hands of millions of citizens, black marketing and private sales of weapons would be rife, however if the USA had a buy back scheme, much like ours was it may remove a large number of these weapons out of circulation.
Then we have the old 'right to bear arms ' syndrome, which many would want to stand by making it difficult for reformation to take place..this is a very tough problem to try and find a solution to because of the very political backlashes it would create..
I personally think it is a situation that will have to be taken by the throat and addressed in a powerful manner and whoever does it will probably ruin their political career.

The situation in the States is so out of hand. So many guns , when someone gets mad they just pull out there gun.
You don’t hear about the small incidents when someone pulls a gun out while driving or random shoots because they are so common over there. My Uncle lived over there for 26 years and is now back.
I’m glad our government has made it hard for people here to get guns . I would have shot three cars this morning in my traffic rage. I’m glad I didn’t have a hand gun in the glove box.

Very tragic once again with young children slaughtered…thoughts and prayers with them and their families...

Let's just take solace that the victims and their families are in everyone's prayers…

For crying out loud, they were murdered while praying in the house of their god, what use does the prayers of everyone else have?
