America - Gun Control

But guns aren't the problem, because someone found statistics that show more guns make the people safer :unamused:

No one is arguing that guns kill people.

But what no one has been able to come up with, after 30 pages, is any suggestion for gun control legislation that would actually stop something like this, or Vegas, or any other massacre, from happening.

If you have a suggestion for legislation, like an actual suggestion and not just 'ban guns' or other empty slogans, then i am all ears.

Well let's start with public education for a buy back scheme in conjunction with an amnesty for banned semi automatic weapons and automatic enablers. Then let the NRA try and argue a case against a public safety issue.

I see there is another mass shooting in a church in America…I honestly think that a complete reformation of the act that allows possession of firearms has to be imminent..
much more stringent licensing and the purchasing of firearms must be first and foremost..that leaves the problem of the firearms that exist at the moment in the hands of millions of citizens, black marketing and private sales of weapons would be rife, however if the USA had a buy back scheme, much like ours was it may remove a large number of these weapons out of circulation.
Then we have the old 'right to bear arms ' syndrome, which many would want to stand by making it difficult for reformation to take place..this is a very tough problem to try and find a solution to because of the very political backlashes it would create..
I personally think it is a situation that will have to be taken by the throat and addressed in a powerful manner and whoever does it will probably ruin their political career.

Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon could actually try and create a legacy.

Aside from the fact that neither semi automatic weapons nor 'automatic enablers' are illegal, and there are more than 300,000,000 firearms currently in circulation in the USA (increasing by the day), in practice how does a buy back scheme stop a crazy person killing people with a gun?

The free market acts as its own voluntary buy-back scheme for legal firearms, and most people who sell a gun only do so to purchase a bigger and better one.

Let's just take solace that the victims and their families are in everyone's prayers…

For crying out loud, they were murdered while praying in the house of their god, what use does the prayers of everyone else have?

Reminds me of an American book I read generations ago that was written generations ago before that:

“The hands that help are better far than lips that pray.”
― Robert G. Ingersoll, The Works of Robert G. Ingersoll, Vol. IV

In this instance hands that help get rid of guns are far better..

So sad.

We need more guns, if the children in that church had guns they may have been able to protect themselves. Yep, keep the gun laws and offer a discount for those who buy multiple weapons. :brick:

Prayers for the souls of the victims as they enter the after-life, and prayers of comfort for those mourning the loss of loved ones.

That's what religious people would be praying for.

the "buy back scheme" and other reforms made a big difference here.
you seem to have a lot of excuses trying stop the amount of guns getting into the wrong peoples hands.

1\. We are talking about America, not Australia. You cannot compare what worked here, to what would work in a country whose existence is literally founded on the right of private individuals to bear arms.

2\. I am not making excuses, i am looking for someone to provide a workable solution.

I note you didn't provide one.

Oh really? Thanks for filling me in Abe, wouldn't have come to that conclusion on my own. I did have a religious upbringing…

Does them a fat lot of good though, I'm sure the victims would have also been praying not to be murdered in the house of their lord. Didn't go down all to well for them either.

It sort of did. All the honest good people handed them back, everyone else did not. There is still a huge amount of guns in our community. I live in Canberra and there is a shooting here every 2 weeks on average.

I hate that people assume the pro gun people do not care about these shootings. We are every bit as appalled and frustrated as everyone else, maybe more so. This appears to be a racist hate attack and once again planned rather than random. Just sickening.

So if you know the answer, why ask the question?

Or do you get off on asking pointless questions.

Racist hate attack?

The church footage from what I saw were predominantly white and the apparent shooter appears to be white?

Unless the guy is a self loathing cracker I can't see how that can be considered the case.

Not familiar with rhetorical questions? I'd wager you're not because my original post was just that and you felt compelled to answer it where one wasn't required as I posed the question out of facetiousness.

So Geo offered prayers for the victims, and you had a hissy fit because … prayers killed the people or something???

I was reading a very initial report that got it wrong. They suggested potential retaliation for another shooting.

So why are you setting a different standard for gun control laws than other laws. Has the DHS stopped terrorism. Has speeding fines stopped speeding?

No.

But both have gone a hell of a long way to mitigating the effects of such activity.

Now your catching on.

Because i don't believe there is one. You can't legislate against human evil.

I agree. That's why I suggest we don't try to stop pedos hanging out in schools. Or have RBTs to stop drunk drivers. We can never stop evil, so why even try?

Nobody is suggesting there is a perfect solution to stop shootings, but maybe you can minimise them.
