A week can't go by without his name popping up
Giving opinions as often as taking a dump
Loves his own voice with a fair bit of bias
The accused's name is Benny Elias

He never actually played for our club
His nephew was certainly a bit of a grub
Never there post-game, sharing the ciders
The media should know he was never Wests Tigers

We get it mate, time can be cruel
It's nearly 20 years since kids thought you were cool
It's time to move on, stop being so pious
If you can't tell, I'm sick of Benny Elias

He went to Uni
to get a business degree
but when caught cheating
he had to flee!

Well actually, it was his cousin, maybe brother, I believe, who sat in for BE in an exam. When the roll was called the Tiger supporting Lecturer (Invigilator during exams) noticed the name of the Balmain Legend and there up the back of the classroom was a guy with a baseball cap pulled down who scooted out faster than JAC when caught out! I think he was a winger in the lower grades at some time. The Lecturer told me the tale when I was in his class at Western Sydney Uni. Not sure whether they disciplined BE tho.

He's the luckiest bloke alive that no one from the media ever went after him. There are a lot of stories floating around about good old backdoor.

Great footballer, but everything i flush down the toilet is better than him

Much maligned on here but was a great footballer and is a great bloke to have a few beers with.

The way i view 'our' club he certainly played for us. We are the history of both Wests and Balmain.

Everyone views it differently and that's all right too. Each to their own.

Give me a break - he never played for "us". However you seem to like good players of extremely poor character.

Took me a while before I realised I should not read your second paragraph as poetry.

The Balmain leagues is in the state it's in because of Benny.
He would sell his soul if it was worth anything.

He was the first player to change the role of a hooker. One of the greats and gave it all on the football field, tough as nails, and a true character of the game. The back door Benny tag and the involment of himself and a Manly player was an attempt to get money from the clubs. There were a group of women at the time scamming for money. Like him or hate him he was a special talent.

I love our merger, and i would feel sad that people want to eradicate the history of the two great clubs that led to its creation. I'm an old turkey, and many of you are young. Back in those ancient days , the Magpies,Tigers,Newtown Jets and Souths were mortal enemies on the field, but many of the players were close friends off the field, and my friends followed different sides. Friday and Saturday nights at the Motor club, The PA club, etc, Beetson ,Lucus,Mabury,Boby Grant all drank together.

Definitely a great footballer.

I have sat with Benny for beers on two occasions. First time you could not have found a better man, GREAT guy, I was super impressed. Second time the EXACT opposite. Like two different humans.

As a commentator he needed to be better
He could barely spell out more than a letter
Tautology and bad grammar were rife
His infamous gaff of “T-R-I, Try!” will keep for life
