Peter V’landys set to be interim NRL chief executive following Andrew Abdo resignation

Andrew Abdo has resigned from his role as the chief executive of the NRL.
Abdo will step aside from one of Australian sport’s most coveted roles after a six-year tenure in which rugby league has enjoyed record crowds and TV ratings, as well as undertaking landmark expansion projects in Papua New Guinea and Perth.

Abdo’s decision comes as the NRL conducts critical negotiations around its next broadcast cycle, which expires after the 2027 season.
The South African-born administrator has led the game in conjunction with ARL Commission chair Peter V’landys since April 2020, with Abdo taking charge from predecessor Todd Greenberg during the game’s enforced hiatus at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Abdo, V’landys, and the NRL have been contacted for comment.
More to come.

I'm off to OPSM Asap cos I thought the Threadline read "Albo Resigns" One can but dream.

I'd say good riddance, but his departure is probably due to a feeling our with V'landys who just craves absolute power. We really need to get pvl out of the NRL before he causes further damage.
If he keeps speeding the damn game up teams are going to need a top 35 to cope with all the bloody injuries the fatigue is causing.

That will need a mighty figure at the next broadcast deal to fund the clubs.

Maybe Gus should apply, he thinks he know everything about the game and where it should be heading. I guess he could do it in conjunction with his Bull dogs gig and channel nine gig, can’t see any conflicts of interest!!

He has been on podcasts recently saying how much he loves rugby league so something feels off.

It could just be about money though.

I say good riddance, and while he is at it, take the other useless megalomaniac PVL with him, totally destroyed the game, rule changes, and those 6 again stupid rules, in my humble opinion, they are the result of the humongous incidences of injuries that players have suffered since this rule change, players are placed under so much stress, and that has resulted in many players trying to keep up with the momentum of this fast paced game and the fatigued factor and as a result sustain serious injuries, be it through fatigue, or exhaustion.
Have followed this game since I was 9 years old and now just turned 70, loved watching league, but now, it looks more like touch footy then the game we all loved. And I believe it's because of these two clowns, (Abbot and Costello)
I am at the point of walking away from following this game that I have loved for so long, because these clowns have ruined it, and is hardly worth following, Rant over!

Ah yes, but were they his rule changes and decisions or were they heavily influenced by Peter V'landys who looks like at least temporarily stepping in to take over the role along with his current role of Chairman of the ARL.

He needs a huge telecast rights deal to keep the clubs happy
I have my doubts over a big tv feal. Fox can't even sell the advertisings spots on current primetime matches.
If they can't recoup their money then why would they bet big on a sport not returning their investment?
