Andrew Fifita tells junior rugby league referee: ‘I’ll smash you’

What crap, we didn't here that his mental state was at risk before he did something stupid. He does something stupid and he now has to deal with the consequences but hey he now has to be treated in Cotten wool. Hope he gets a life ban now.

Sounds like SKD.
In a mental institution one week (just prior to a court appearance coincidentally) , 4 days later back at training

100%. The 'mental stress' and 'depression' excuse are literally this day and age's get-out-of-jail-free card. Yet fill out your tax return wrong by 50 bucks and the lawmakers are looking to throw away the key. Today's society is just a disgraceful joke when it comes to cop-outs. Sick of NRL players carrying on like f%#@wits and using mental problems as an excuse. How many of them come out and disclose their mental distress unless they are in the shite for something? Nearly zero.

Tell the Sharks if Fifita mental health is so important they should rest him for the rest of the season

I bet their thoughts would change then

The Sharks have been threading along this same "victim" path for the past few years and getting off very lightly indeed.

Andrew Fifita earlier this season revealed he suffered from depression last year after losing his NSW State of Origin and Australian Test spots and enduring the stress of having a multi-million-dollar deal with Canterbury ripped up

im not one to take mental and depression issues lightly but geeze if you suffer depression due to this reason..

cronulla sharks and fifita bros have no ethics or morales. i'd be embarassed if i were them.

Cronulla Sharks prop Andrew Fifita facing eight-match ban for referee abuse

Date August 2, 2015

Cronulla prop Andrew Fifita is expected to be suspended for up to eight matches over allegations he abused and threatened a referee after a Penrith District Junior Rugby League match. Fifita is challenging a 12-month suspension from attending matches in the Penrith DJRL competition and has submitted a 16-point statement to the NRL in which he denies needing to be physically restrained by ground officials or telling referee Tim Hannon: "I'll smash you." However, the NRL has received statements from other witnesses that support the version of events outlined by the referee after the July 25 match at Glenwood.

The former Test and NSW Origin front-rower has been told to front the Cronulla board on Thursday and is expected to be banned from playing for the rest of the NRL season. If the Sharks do not take firm action, the NRL is set to step in as officials want to send a clear message that the game will not tolerate the abuse of referees at any level. Many in the game feel an eight-match ban would be the appropriate penalty as it would rule Fifita out of playing until after the grand final, if the Sharks were to qualify.

Maybe Fifita will get the usual Cronulla-style ban from the NRL and be allowed to serve his suspension during the off-season instead. That'll teach him…...

….And there you go. Fifita accepts 6 match ban that is backdated so he is free to play in the finals if the Shonks make it. What a joke. Maybe the junior ref who got abused and threatened should have to apologize to the Fifitas and perhaps pay some of their wages while they are sidelined.

Backdated suspensions are the norm at the Sharks. Grubby club. Fast becoming my no 1 hated team. And considering the passion of hate i have for several teams, its quite an achievement.

Fifita's has been quite ingenuine with regards to his description of the incident, a description which was found to be quite different to witness reports. Because of this I find it hard to believe the Sharks' CEO statement regarding genuine remorse.

Andrew Fifita has been suspended for six NRL matches and fined $30,000 by Cronulla over his abuse of a referee. The back-dated suspension means Fifita will be available for the Sharks' finals campaign, if they qualify for the playoffs.

Fifita will also be required to perform 25 hours of community service to support junior rugby league as punishment for his abuse of the referee last month at a match administered by Penrith and District Junior Rugby League. The former Kangaroo and NSW representative will also undergo an anger management course and send a written apology to the match officials involved. Andrew's brother David, who was also a party to the incident, has been banned for six games.

In a statement released by the Sharks, chief executive Lyall Gorman said: "both players had expressed genuine remorse over the incident and the impact of the incident on all parties".
