A furious Tim Sheens has denied the exit of certain players at the Wests Tigers is undermining their NRL season after they crashed to a 22-6 defeat to struggling Parramatta on Friday night.

St George Illawarra angered the Tigers just hours before the kick-off by announcing they had signed utility back Tim Moltzen on a three-year deal.

Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys was livid, saying he had not agreed to release the 22-year-old from the final year of his contract.

Humphreys accused the reigning premiers of being "arrogant and disrespectful" but Dragons CEO Peter Doust said later he was confused by Humphreys' comments.

"Our intention to make this announcement was communicated to Wests Tigers in advance of the announcement even though it has always been our understanding and the standard practice within the game that the club signing a player makes any such announcement," Doust said in a statement released during the game.

"We do not understand the statement that our announcement is arrogant or disrespectful to the Wests Tigers club."

After the match, Sheens bristled when asked if the decision to let Moltzen, Wade McKinnon, Andrew Fifita and Bryce Gibbs exit the club, with Chris Heighington and Beau Ryan also rumoured to be on the way out, was the reason for his side's poor form and third successive defeat.

"You can say that if you like … I knew people would say that first thing ... but our preparation was great, the boys were happy with what we were doing," he said.

"There's no issues from the point of view of within the group between themselves, we're not talking about players unhappy with each other here.

"Players are leaving every club, I'll admit it's not the best thing in respect to a mid-season issue, but I can tell you now there's no way anyone in this group should or can use that as an excuse."

The Tigers looked disjointed in attack and, with speculation mounting that there were issues among the players, Sheens fired back to questions about whether there was a dressing room split.

"Bullshit, when you throw a poor pass on the last option without even looking, I mean you can't start talking about 'oh that's an issue with the club'," he said.

"That's an issue with you personally. Each player has got to take some responsibility, particularly the key players in the side.

"Last play options come down to what you do with the football in your hand. Are some of the ball players or key players leaving the club? And there was more mistakes from them than from anyone else."

Sheens claimed that the players were fully aware of Moltzen's planned departure and rejected suggestions that the timing of the announcement by the Dragons was the reason for the defeat.

"It's not as if they are being executed and being cut without contracts being paid. It's a professional game," he said.

"I refuse to blame that on losing footy games, we have to look internally at ourselves about our performance and our preparation.

"If we were playing that poorly we would have had 80 put past us in three weeks ... we have defended our backsides off."

bye tim , good for us , but what are we getting in , the club has shed 7 plus players but we have seen one signing, please explain sheens??????????????????????

so we can just blame this on the ineptness of the coaching staff to get the best out of the players then??

very good point.
someone step in and take control.
do not care who is at fault if anyone, just for god's sake sort the bloody issues out, before wests-tigers end up finshing 12th or worse. :imp:

I'd rather think that the problem is about the player leaving, otherwise what the hell is the problem?

it's bloody joke at the moment!

No! But we can blame the coaching staff for not dropping underperforming or unenthusiastic players from the team and making it clear to them what they need to do to EARN a recall to the top grade!

According to Humphries:-
“We have been in discussions with Tim Moltzen’s manager regarding his future but at this point have not formally agreed to release him from the final year of his playing contract with Wests Tigers."
I note he does not say they were in discussions to sign him for an extended time BUT they were discussing his future and HAD NOT FORMALLY AGREED to **release him from the final year of his contract**.
According to the report by Ian McCullough:-
Sheens claimed that the players were fully aware of Moltzen's planned departure and rejected suggestions that the timing of the announcement by the Dragons was the reason for the defeat.

So, did the players know of Moltzen's planned departure, even though the CEO claims they were still discussing Moltzen's future? This does not add up in my mind? Is someone telling porkies?

I'm no sheens hater but it's extremely difficult to believe what he says there. To my eyes there is huge unrest in the team

The club is not going well at all but the way we are going there will be no sponsors at the end of this season backing the west tigers.

This would be a major concern… No?

I'm tired of Sheens excuses. It's just a constant media circus of blame everything but the real reasons we are losing games we should be winning!

He's a desparate man who's stayed on longer than he should have. He's run out of ideas as a coach, he can't get this talented this team to gel and he is incapable of coaching a team to play a structured game of rugby league.

The team has become a rabble who play like strangers every week.

NEWSFLASH TIM: It is your job to prepare this team every week to perform at their best. It's not happening and YOU and your coaching staff are accountable. YOU are the only person in this club that seems to be above accountablitly. The players can only do so much without a firmly structured game plan and you are not capable of producing this.

As far as I'm concerned YOU are now free to negotiate with other clubs.

Both Fonz and Humpty are being extremely dishonest. They know they will be employed on massive money for as long as they want at the Wests Tigers. So long as all merchandise is Black and Orange, all NRL players play for Balmain, the main jersey is Orange with a black V and they are referred to as the Tigers, the Balmain side of the JV will never remove these imbeciles from their positions.

Gee, that's not like Mr Sheen to completely deflect the blame off himself.

Look, at the end of the day we are playing totally without confidence and with absolutely zero luck.

In a couple of weeks when the passes start to stick and we win consecutive games everyone in the press gallery and on this forum will see the sun shine again whenever Mr Sheen bends over.

Sheens is a 100% right their are no issue with players not getting on with each other, thats not where the problem is. Of course the problem is that the group have big issues with the coach and the direction he is driving the ship.

Now if Sheens actually thinks everything is okay than he needs a trip to a mental hospital. From where I sit we need a new coach and fast

"s***, when you throw a poor pass on the last option without even looking, I mean you can't start talking about 'oh that's an issue with the club'," he said".

Haven't looked at the replay yet so I'm not sure who sheens is talking about as the game has become a blur to me. The key issue IMO is how does he address this player and the others who made mistakes of the same dimension? What has he been doing to address Lui's woeful defence for example and I could go on as we all could. Make a statement but don't leave it there, do something 'real' about it Tim. This sort of play has been going on for a good while now so I do wonder what he does do about it…......

Scoring 18 points in the last 3 games definitely not good enough.whatever the problem is they should sort it out very quickly and get back to producing performances we know they are capable of, otherwise they can forget any finals appearance this year…......but we all know this.

Just watched it then…._finally_ someone in the media applies a bit of pressure...who was that bloke? Can he be at all of our press conferences?

Here you go again with the name calling if you gonna voice an opinion do so with facts and without the petty name calling otherwise you only end up making yourself out to be the name you infer.

If you gonna call anyone an imbecile then step up look in the mirror sigh and go for your life :bash

Pull your head out of the sand Tim. Telling players they have to leave when they don't want to is not the way to get the best out of them. Sure they will play and do what they have to but that's all. They are not going to go above and beyond and that is what is needed to win the comp.
