Anthony Griffin

I'm not that sold on Griffin tbh…with all the resources the Broncos have to offer being a one team town regular Friday night games and arguably a superior roster to ours...he has been well underwhelming...Broncos also did punt him with a year to run on his contract...

Agreed, this is my concern also.
He has dramatically underachieved (win/loss wise) at Brisbane.

The way we are tossing names in the air makes us look like a real desperate club

My only concern is getting another coach who might fail as well.
Names dont mean a lot to me at this stage as long as they deliver results and get us playing finals footy..

i wouldnt be surprised to see if it is griffin that farah is stripped of the captaincy ala thaiday and we go with a woods and lawrence co captain combo

Woods is a good player but not captain material just yet. As for Lawrence he can captain NSW Cup.

Lawrence has the perfect personality to be a captain. Its what he was destined for pre-injury. Since, and the way his form has suffered as a result thats gone down the toilet, which is a shame cos i think personality-wise, he's a born leader.

GNR i am not disputing he'd make a good captain.I like to see him captaining the NSW Cup team as he's not up to 1st grade. Needs to improve his game big time.

He's incapable of improving his game. What you see now is what you get. The injury took the real Chris Lawrence away and it never brought him back. Its sad, and its a fear that i have for Tedesco with all his leg injuries.

Former Brisbane Broncos coach Anthony Griffin wants Wests Tigers coaching job

FORMER Broncos coach Anthony Griffin has put his hand up for the Wests Tigers job after Michael Potter was sacked on Wednesday.

Kevin Walters has ruled out applying for the Tigers post he first pursued in 2012 as the Broncos great hopes to return to Red Hill with Wayne Bennett next season.

The Courier-Mail understands Griffin will be short-listed to succeed Potter after relaying his interest in the lead-up to Brisbane’s clash with the Cowboys last Saturday night.

Griffin has denied talking to Tigers officials but it is believed his manager Wayne Beavis contacted the club last week.

Beavis made it clear Griffin, who had his 2015 Broncos deal rescinded in July, was interested in the Tigers job, but only if the position was available next season.

That materialised on Wednesday, when the Tigers finally pulled the trigger on Potter after 12 months of speculation about his tenure at the club.

The Tigers will begin their search for a replacement immediately, with the new head coach to start no later than October 27.

Potter’s assistants Todd Payten and David Kidwell are expected to press their claims, but Griffin’s four-year reign at Queensland’s glamour NRL club makes him a contender.

Nathan Brown has also been linked with the Tigers post, but the former Dragons coach is contracted at St Helens for next season and has yet to receive a formal approach.

While Griffin is a front-runner, Walters will not be in the race.

The former Maroons captain went close to securing the Tigers post two years ago, only to be narrowly beaten by Potter.

Walters has no intention of re-applying and believes he is a better fit for the Broncos under Bennett, who employed him at the Knights this season.

Tigers boss Grant Mayer said severing ties with Potter, who has endured a strained relationship with star hooker Robbie Farah, was an agonising call.

“This has been a difficult decision for everyone involved but one that the club believes is in the best interests of a successful future for Wests Tigers,’’ Mayer said.

Former Tigers lock Scott Sattler said Payten was ready for NRL coaching.

“I think he would do a great job,’’ Sattler said. “I don’t know where the Tigers are financially but they need to take on a coach in the right price range.

“I’ve had a close affiliation with Todd ever since I played with him at the Tigers. He’s a student of the game and thinks outside the box.

“From feedback I’ve got on Toddy, that’s the way he now operates as a coach. He’s tough but fair and very intelligent in the way he approaches rugby league game plans.’’

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Sattler come here for one year then leave while trying to rape us of our players enticing them to the Gold Coast? Only Prince and Laffranchi left but I'm sure he tried to talk about 5 or 6 players into leaving.
