Are we a chance in 2022?

Laurie and stef will be good.

The BJ Leilua question is a big one. Was it him or us?
I ask this honestly because he conflicted heavily here. He also conflicted with Ricky. But ricky got the form out of him, heck if he played like he played at the Raiders we would never let him leave. He played crap for us.

The guys coming in now have to own the position.
Its up for grabs and I hope Madge is ruthless till we get a pair who will work and fight to keep their spots

Roberts, Doueini, Gildart, Talou, AJ. Surely 2 of these must step up and own the spot.
Wasn't there some acrimony between BJ Leilula and Blake Austin when they played for Canberra.

I have very low expectations
We have to start the season strong, we play very few games at home and for a young squad momentum early will be key to if we improve on last year.

If we can concede 100 less points a game than last year we won’t come last & could be a sniff for the 8

It will come down to what if any impact Sheens has, along with being based back in Sydney playing in front of crowds.

Another factor will be the implementation and interpretation of the rules.

We have a lot of guys in our squad who putting it mildly need nurturing and need the right headspace for top performance and that Includes our whole backline including recruits.

They'll appreciate being back at home and will know with Sheens there the door isn't too far away.

That performance against South's is sustainable so there is potential.

Higher intensity is required.

Nope!
The only thing that will change from last year is I don't think we'll throw the towel in.
There is competition for every position, contracts to thrashed out and a new coaching roster that won't tolerate mediocrety.
It's our way or the highway I'm affraid.
If you don't play good this year, maybe noone will want you.

Last season you could win 10 games and lose 14 and make the finals and we still couldn't do it

We've improved on paper but I don't think we've improved as much as other teams who missed the finals and only one or two teams might drop out of the 8 (knights and titans)

It really depends on how the whole team goes particularly the spine if the spine can gel and work well together we just might make the 8 but if we do won’t get higher than 7th IMO otherwise I’m hoping we don’t get last
At this level of sport the difference is mainly between the ears. Sure there is always better cattle to be had, but the bloke with the right head space will always make a huge difference.
I remember in the dark ages when I played, there was a saying that went like this "a campion team will always beat a team of champions."
I hope shifty gets the boys in the right head space

With four of our top 30 out with long term injuries, plus a roster that has big gaps in vital areas, it’s hard to see us anywhere but bottom 3.
My guess there will be a improvement in most areas but it may not translate into wins.

I do have faith in Hastings ability to drive the team, so that may help. Although any injury in the spine, backrow or centre and we are in big trouble

On paper - which is all we have to go on at this point - we are no where near strong enough to compete with at least 8 clubs despite wishful thinking. Lots of variables when the comp starts, whether they are positive or negative for us remains to be seen.

We are not a chance in 2022. Any games we play against Melbourne, Penrith, Parra, Chooks, and Bunnies are instant write-offs, unless the opposition is decimated by injuries or origin.

The only wildcard this season is Jackson Hastings. I noticed we have gotten worse since Benji declined starting in 2020. While we can all agree that he was past it and needed to go, at least he knew what a win looked like. A decent half can make a below-average team competitive.

I pin my entire hopes this season on Hastings. If he does well, we will do well as a team. Otherwise, we are in wooden spoon territory.

Watched the 2014 Easter Monday game last night.

Wish we had scored another try to achieve that elusive 25-18 result we all long for, still, it's always a good game when we win.

I think the key to our success really will be with the spine....
Liddle
Brooks
Hastings
Laurie
If they produce great running and control when under pressure, the rest will follow...
We have to remember that most winning consistent teams have a very well put together spine..
If they can be consistent week in week out then the forwards will be able to lay the platform, although we havent got world class players in all positions because of our youth, they will learn how to be competative and consistent if the spine do their job ....communication will be the great asset this year, especially with Laurie out the back and Jacko in the halves...
Lots to look forward to and hopefully the injured guys return to form quickly ....AND the injuries dont mount up this year...
The key will be the forwards. The forwards are always the key in rugby league.

Of course we’re a chance !
It’s not gonna take much to turn our fortunes. We need our team to develop some harmonic motion, particularly the 9, 13, 7, 6 and 1. The skills of Hastings and Peachey will allow Brooks more time to play his natural game.
Laurie will also, now have a better understanding of where he fits into the team.
We’ll need our forwards to value real estate, win the collision, and let the other team know they’re in a game. This can all come on like a light switch.
We have an improved coaching staff, which will allow the head coach to be more relaxed about his approach.
If we don’t have too many more injuries, I would be very surprised if we’re not knocking on the door of finals footy.

At most a place in the eight. Laurie is still green, the new coaching staff must instill some mongrel in the forwards, Brooks will, for the first time in years have a decent 5/8 and improved speed in the backs. Still doubt AD is a 5/8, unlike others who thinks he's the messiah.

Anyone needing to ammend their fearless predictions 😸
Like who said Blore was going to have a breakout season?
It will be interesting to look back at that thread at end of the year.

Agree Sleeve, Adam is not a 6 or 7. He played 14 games at 6 and managed only 6 FDOs. His running game is good, particularly like his change of direction, but it doesn’t get the backline moving.
Yep, we definitely need our forwards to fight hard for the turf.
