Army camp

Great presentation by the Wests Tigers and shows our club professionally up against “ tales of tigertown”

Bula standing up was impressive and whilst I agree he does not have the voice of fullback as yet his actions will lead the way.
Luai will change the club for the better as he is exactly what we needed with his voice and drive.

You can see a significant difference in team bonding and the voice within the group with the new recruits and personalities. The fitness looks better and as said Benji is trying to get the best out of the players with them taking control especially the halves.

Impressed and hopeful it translates to the team results
As they showed Benji wants Galvin as a 7 to be more assertive yet calm with his talking, it will take time hes only 19 or whatever....Bula as a queit bloke at fullback ...this is also crucial in defense, crisp clear communication.

That was very good watch

Really. You spoke to Benji? You can confirm this?

Jahream looking like the MVP of that episode for sure but personally I think we’re about to see an absolute all time season from Fonua Pole. His leadership in that episode plus his performance in the trial…. BEAST !!!

Well the video did not match reality. He's not playing this week. JBula. In recovery. Lets focus on this weeks episode.

A couple of things I noticed:

1. Inarticulate footy players cannot deliver instructions/directions - Benji to Galvin - Your fitness is not the issue you need to find your voice - Brooks anyone? Galvin has been a precocious kid playing what he sees in front of him and there's a hope that the team follows him but that is what went wrong in the Berries game. He overplayed and the "team" did not follow him. In my day, these kids were called hogs. Latu did not have a voice to over-ride him. Luai is the most articulate player, other than Api. Luai will bring them onto the ball or all hell will break loose.
2. Leadership - Benji sees Pole and Turuva in the big picture.
3. Klemmer - I felt sorry for him each time he spoke. Did he know at the time that he was not part of the plans? But again he came across as a meathead not a leader - just a guy to cart up the ball and do a few tackles.
4. Bula - he was praised for his effort . BUT... was this effort the cause of the mysterious injury "appendicitis" as Vossy repeatedly reported despite the early reports saying Turuva had suffered the attack? Or was it the cause of a renewed shoulder strain? And if it was the shoulder then how bloody stupid for the coaching staff not to intervene. Benji had about 4 shoulder recos so he ought to have known not to push Bula.
Well worth watching the final episode to see if Bula's injury is revealed.

That was better than tiger town....even better if we win some games, if we don't turn it around all of this stuff is going to be cringeworthy.
How’s it cringeworthy ? If you cringe at this , you have zero idea what forms that bond .
I have a story of something similar to this camp.
We had been away and it had been never ending walking around , and skirmishes, there was a kill village we had to patrol in and out of, so constant attacks etc. ,and stores carries, the usual exercise bullshit to be honest , and then when we thought we were going to return to base/camp , they pulled us up got in formation , jus tiff this road in real long grass ,and we just stayed there for hrs . Silent ! Then it rains , and just buckets down , and everyone is beyond tired , they haven’t showered or had more than 2 hrs sleep in 3 days , it’s muddy now everywhere , we must have stunk like the worst thing you ever smelt … and just at that moment when we were in our absolute misery at like 10 at night, its pouring raining and one bloke goes “it could be worse … could be raining !. And then everyone got the giggles , and 10 minute later we moved out , and all shuffled back to base/ camp . Never had I felt more apart of something, then lying in that filth with those other 9 guys, giggling like a child over that lame joke .
Just a small anecdote , about bond and leadership.

Interesting to see the personalities that are standing out. That night there would have been some thinking they had done well because they got through, some thinking about how they let their mates down at certain points in time, and others refelcting on how they could have done better and preparing for the next day.

Those that are putting their mates first and have taken the step to lead from the front are developing, but those that use their voice to encourage as well as lead by example know what leadership is about.

Benji gets it and is pushing them in the right direction. Not sure if his X's and O's are up to speed but he is working these guys well. Is it the turning point? It may not have us winning the competition in 2025 but on leadership, team spirit and standards I get a feel that we may be starting on par with the good teams for the first time in a while.

Heard a lot about Terell from himself and others about being a leader, even in the vid at the airport...I didnt see much footage of him though in the drills

How many episodes are there?

You rate Newcastle good? They made the 8 last few seasons. We on par with them? How do you measure that. On par.
It is hard to rate other teams unless you can get a peek at their system and how they have prepared for the season. Being flogged physically in the pre-season is one thing; but being flogged where the focus is on developing leadership, at the top and the bottom, is about both the present and the future.

I have been fortunate, or unfortunate enough if you like, to have spent time teaching and developing leaders. While the exposure to Benji and the coaching staff was limited; the overall theme of developing leaders and culture, under physical pressure, is something that you usually see in the development of elite or specialist military units. The application of this approach to a young and developing side, in my opinion, is on the money. It is certainly not revolutionary, but it is something we have seen the top clubs do before. Benji is clearly trying to develop individuals within a team environment and that is good coaching; no matter what you think of his ability to impart tactical knowledge.
