Ashley Klein gambling Problems

agree it doesnt influence gambling on poker machines.
I love a punt but I know i can go to a pub or on my app and have a punt, I shouldn't have to watch say matty johns show and have sports bet or Daley spruiker tab prices or silly Joel Caine talking odds

I couldn’t care less about them ..I never watch those shows

Wallabies great Senator David Pocock is a massive advocate for getting rid of pokies and making some noise in Canberra about it.
They're bloody evil and tears families apart!

Well I think gambling has become too easy. Look at WA, if you want to play the pokies you can only do so at the Casino.and it has the lowest gambling losses and problems in Australia.
That’s the way it used to be in NSW, you could only play the pokies at a licenced club.
Then Mr Paul Whelan , Police Minister, in cahoots with Bob Carr, the then Premier, thought it would good Labor Socialist policy that pokies be allowed in every pub as well. That made them very convenient to all and imo started the downhill run.
Of course then Whelan retired and guess what, bought about 5 pubs with a group of cronies.
They eventually sold for huge profits and he bought a major stud farm in the Hunter Valley. He’s dead now but that’s how it all started.
My idea;
- cease all gambling advertising
- revert to previous plan of pokies in clubs and / or casinos only
- make them available during decent hours only 12 noon - 10pm -
- limit amounts to be gambled
- remove ATMs from clubs

Chances of this happening. 0% because revenue to Govt is huge and would lead to closure of probably 60%of pubs.
What will happen. Life will go on from 10am - 4am every day, pensioners and unemployed will be there first thing to double their pensions, tradies will pour in at 3.30 to double their days pay, and then if they lose go him and give the wife/ kids a beating. The young punks will come flying in late evening/ early morning, betting the max., working the gamble button and go hard or go home.
It’s a real shame and I was part of it for quite a while until I had a frontal lobotomy and woke up to myself.
I still go to the races every Saturday but small bets only, mix with a normal group of older guys, we laugh, have a punt but all gamble within our limitations. We’ve all worked hard and now retired, we own our homes, cars, no credit card debt and a reasonably sane attitude.

Pokies are shit ..I never got why you would want to play them , even in my younger days …and I’m someone that loves a ( small) bet on the horses , sport and casinos …

A lot of your suggestions won’t make a lot of difference unfortunately to a committed pokies player …my observation actually is that pokies in pubs don’t seem as popular as they used to be 20 years ago… althoigh still plenty playing them in the clubs..

I think that depends where you are TS. It’s all speculation anyway, if you want an informed decision, listen to Tim Costello, he has good ideas about this.

Changing the hours would make a hell of a difference. Open too long now.

I was in the pub the other day watching a footy game ..think it was Sunday arvo around 3pm

I was sitting near the ATM… some young bloke in his 20s must have come out of the pokies room and used the ATM at least 5 times in the hour I was there … I assume the ATM was limited to $200 or even less a time …even so …not good
