Asu Kepaoa #236

Was named at fullback for roosters round 1 nsw cup game, his profile says wing, and sounds like he can play centre too. Sounds like a handy pickup.

Browsing the chookpen to observe reactions and they all seem pretty indifferent, partly due to SBW’s imminent arrival but hopefully he can deliver the goods. Can’t be any worse then Jennings

At least he won't do a hammy falling over the try line.

The 20-year-old Rooster who has paved the way for an SBW return

This is the 20-year-old that has paved the way for Sonny Bill Williams to make a return to the Sydney Roosters. New Zealand-raised outside back Asu Kepaoa is set to be released by the Roosters in coming days to join the Wests Tigers, which will free up a spot in the tricolours top 30 and make the necessary space for Williams.

It is the strongest indication yet that Williams is on his way back to the Roosters, with the parties having all-but agreed to his return. They are now working through the logistics about how and when can he arrive back in Australia.

The Tigers last month signed Kepaoa for next season but were rejected by the Roosters when they requested he join the club this year. The Roosters had a sudden change of heart in the last 48 hours and informed the Tigers that he is now available to make an immediate club swap.

Kepaoa, who has been in this Roosters' development teams for the last two years, played for the Roosters in the NRL Nines but has yet to make his NRL debut.Kepaoa's pathway has been somewhat blocked at the Roosters with the Morris twins re-uniting this season, and Matt Ikavalu making the most of his opportunities in first grade.

Williams needs to finalise a release from his deal with Toronto, with the NRL unwilling to sign off on a deal at the Roosters while contracted to another club. The Roosters are in dialogue with the NRL about seeking federal government approval to enter the country, given he doesn't hold an Australian passport. It is likely he will have to spend 14 days in hotel quarantine, and then complete another 2-3 weeks of conditioning before he could be selected.

The Roosters are considering offering Williams a playing contract for next year as well, given the value they place on his ability to mentor young players like Kyle Flanagan and Joseph Manu.

good to have signed him, but would've been far better if we could've nabbed him a few weeks ago after Joey had his brain explosion. given the team that's lining up tonight our depth has certainly been tested. would say he'd still be a couple of weeks away from even being considered for selection due to match fitness.

I have never seen the kid play , but as many say the Roosters don't lose players they want to keep and they are releasing him for someone who is over the hill for maybe 10 weeks

Hope he is our next superstar in saying that

Sounds like we had already signed him and they're just letting him go earlier.

The reaction of the Roosters and Eels is an indication of how ruthless clubs treat other clubs in the name of trying to win a premiership. They don't do solids for anyone nor should they. I hope WTs management remember this treatment when the time comes.

Remember that we now have the Roosters recruitment guy. They can't keep everyone.

People were just talking about another young winger they have. They have no choice but to let one of them go really.

Probably the nail in the coffin for Dylan smith. Don’t see us keeping him at all now

I think someone should have sent Madge to Spec Savers
Madge thought he was signing up Kapow (Taupau)
And we end up with Kepaoa

And they add SBW ....at what point does the NRL start to think there may be a slight imbalance in the rosters

drop from a 5 mill a year contract to 200k....seems legit.....😉
