Aussies 2018 tour of South Africa Spoilers

My predicted punishments -
Lehmann sacked
Smith to lose captaincy, dropped for next test series, and a six figure fine
A slightly lesser punishment for Warner and any other of the leadership group involved (eg banned for half a series, and a smaller fine)
Bancroft dropped for 4th test + fine
Handscomb and any other non-leadership player involved - fine

That all seems about right to me. If Cricket Australia don’t take strong action fans will walk away from the game. They need to show the fans, world cricket, and the players that Australia does not stand for this behaviour at all.

They are saying the coaching staff had no idea but I find that hard to believe.. but if true surely this makes our leadership group look even worse that one of the other leaders didn't take some action.

handscomb was clearly a part of it too.

tbh most non-aussies are happy to just troll CA- the hardest stance has come from the aussie media and fans.

legally speaking, i doubt ICC will do anything but ban and fine bancroft

smith, warner, lehmann, handscomb and possibly lyon(?part of leadership group) will need to be dealt with by CA.

i'm definitely not expecting a slap on the wrist but I'm happy with whatever punishment the "leadership group", bancroft and handscomb get by CA as long as it's properly detailed. Warner and Smith should never be allowed to captain the Australian side or ever be part of a "leadership group".

i personally dont think ball tampering is a big deal, every country pushes the envelope, doing it on the seam/chain of the pants, fingernails, sugary chewing gum etc- we can take a hard stance at it now. I saw somewhere being mentioned that once upon a time only one designated player was allowed to shine the ball. I'm happy for it to go back to that and before/after each session that player gets patted down by the umpires.

that's a load of crap and if anyone says that coaches didnt know, they're lying about it and they should be put on trial. the coach clearly saw the footage and adviced the 12th man. lehmann looked like a deer in headlights in the footage. to me, lehmann has to be the scapegoat here, for good or bad.

Smith suspended for one match by the ICC …
smiths been handed a one test ban and been fined 100% of his match fee.
He will have 4 demerit points on his record .

Bancroft given 3 demerit points for ball tampering and fined 75% of his match fee

Warner has not been hit with any ICC sanctions .

Its a PR disaster for CA. They pride themselves on their captain having the image of Richie Cunnigham. Talk of life bans or multiple year bans are ridiculous, cos they would not have the set to make that big of a statement. Most that will happen is they will be stripped of their captaincy roles. And a permanent tarnished reputation.

Regardless of coaches knowing or not you would expect the captain to stand against such behavior. And if I was coach and didn't know i would remove him from the team for year and senior players in the know for 6 months. Integrity must be number 1 priority. Bring in the reggies. Any coaches that knew must go asap

So I guess it's one of two things: a monumental brain fart decision to cheat that everyone involved should have known would be found out and was the worst idea ever OR every team in the world does it and if you don't you're as much chance of a winning as a clean cyclist winning the Tour de France.

Let's face it - we've all noticed how every man and his bowling dog gets reverse swing these days and the Saffa captain has been caught twice ball tampering.

Don't you mean 58 , saying England got 158 is like giving them a nose job , boob job , tummy tuck , bum lift and applying a gastro band all at the same time :roll

Yeah I know , I didn't think you'd notice
**The Poms may suck but we don't cheat** , but I could happily supply any grade of sandpaper to them if that's what it takes :roll

Anderson and Broad 2010 incident
In January 2010, England bowlers Stuart Broad and James Anderson were accused of ball tampering by rubbing the ball on the ground with their spikes in the third Test Match against South Africa. **Broad maintained that was just being lazy,** because it was 40 degrees Celsius in Cape Town that day. Andrew Flower said in his defence that **"the scoreline suggested that there was obviously no ball tampering.**" Nasser Hussain who had captained Anderson said: "Stuart Broad and James Anderson were wrong to behave in the manner they did and I've no doubt that if a player from another country did the same we'd have said they were cheating."

   the scoreline…

Cummins was done the other for rolling his spikes on the ball … That's nothing new .
But having a roll of sandpaper in your pocket ....DISGRACEFULL /NO EXCUSES

Keep digging old man :roll

No you're entirely correct, there are no excuses but basically no other sporting nation can take the high ground because they've all been caught out.

Kiwis taking the moral ground was hilarious especially after Cairns and Vincent got done for match fixing a year or two ago. Cheating by doctoring the ball in order to increase your chances of winning is bad enough, phoning it in a screwing your teammates for a payday is lower than a snakes gut though.

What's blown me away in all of this is the integrity of Steve Smith or the lack there of it …
Smith of all people ...
The next Don Bradman
Best Test average since Bradman
Captain of the most prestigious job in the country
The world at his feet .....
Just goes to show ....

If it was just Warner I'd get it ..

Between this and trying to get advice on DRS by motioning to his dressing room, I think the evidence is there that he’s just a dumb person. Cam Smith might be a cheat in some people’s eyes, but he’s intelligent about it, leaving enough doubt to always be a media darling. Steve Smith on the other hand does it in full view of the entire world.

Cricket Australia needs a cleanout as does the players. And Ponting and Clarke should never be allowed to be involved in the game in this country again!

Just my little add on spray at these two wankers who criminally wore the baggy green.

Can't believe this is happening. I honestly thought Smith was better and smarter than to get involved with cheating. I was fooled

Hopefully Cricket Australia will ban Smith, Warner and Bancroft for 12 months like they did with Shane Warne all those years ago.

Lehmann will also need to stand down. Langer would be a good replacement
