Something a bit different

Just wondering who you would call Australia's best current sportsmen or women

For me our current best sportsmen is Jamie Dwyer Australian Hockey superstar

Why Bogut? He's not tearing up the NBA like Lebron or Carmelo…

I'd say Warner would be up there. Cadels a little past it probably. And also Tomic. Gee there's not a lot to choose from, Cricket. crap. Union. crap. Olympics. crap.

Also, GI and Folau.

What about sally pearson,Alicia coutts who won five medals at the london olympics.Tom slingsby gold medal winner at london and the recent americas cup winning yanks. Also Adam scott must be up there after his year.Anna Meares, joel parkinson and grant balfour amongst others. Also Stephanie gilmore who has won 5 of the last 6 womens surfing world championships.

It depends on what parameters you're judging on. Best Sportsman/woman in terms of fair play? Effort? Success? Scale of Achievements on the world stage?

Adam Scott (golf), Andrew Bogut, Lauren Jackson (bball) or Robbie Kruse (football) or Michael Clarke (cricket) would be the main contenders as they achieve success at an elite international level.

And yes, Sally Pearson can probably fit in there too as a world champion and gold medallist.

Lauren Jackson and Sally Pearson would be the two that come to mind

Really not much to talk about on the men's side , Dwyer has been the top player in the world for many years now and just seems to get better with age

Well he did have the best year ever by an Australian batsmen in 2012, granted more recently he was not quite as supreme but still got a few centuries, and he is playing in an awful team.

There aren't many Australians competing well on the international stage full stop. Elyse Perry is known for being young, attractive and for playing two sports at the same time. While a decent player, she's not the star of either team she plays for. She's also only semi-professional so doesn't count imo.

I don't think Kruse really belong on that list. He's the best socceroo, but he's hardly a superstar of his sport like the rest of them. I am a big fan of his though, best soccer player we have at the moment, and one of the few in the younger generation who has taken the next step.

Mick Fanning is just about to become the World Surfing Champ and when you consider how many people in the world surf it is a bloody outstanding effort.
Dwyer may be a good player but some of his success is in part due to his teammates IMO, same with any team sport.
Daniel Geale was controversially beaten in his last World Title fight so he would be high up on the list too.
