GEE I WILL DRINK TO THAT..

It’s not about lightening up training - it’s about making sure the team enjoys themselves more on their off time together.

They’re either locked in their houses or training, at the very least when they have breaks the club should be making sure they’re having fun and in good spirits. It will go a long way towards helping the players attitude towards playing and training

Training will stay as hard as ever

Josh Im not bagging you or anything but just remember these guys had the opportunity to play football and earn their pay...they can still enjoy time together in a limited capacity, thats what covid has done to us...I had to stay at home with no job and limited time out in public with social distancing, sanitisation,no visiting family and NO JOB for 3 months...surely they can suffer a bit like the rest of us had to..
Im now employed in a casual capacity,I may have to wear a mask its for 12/18 hours a week then back home and keep myself and family safe and free from covid....the NRL players are in a much better position within their bubble for everyones safety, there is plenty of time for partying and family once the season is finished and covid is suppressed...

They’re just trying to make sure the boys get some relaxing off time together. They’re stuck in the grind off sleep train play repeat for months, not allowed out of the house to see friends and family and unwind. If they can get the boys happier as a group it will help all aspects of their footy and I don’t see anything wrong with that really

No you miss interpret. You know how that say how Irish people are better at pool when their drunk.

I’ve been thinking (dangerous I know) that our team is either too young or too old. We’re up for a good 3-4 weeks & then tend to have a couple of shockers. Our best is light years from our worst & we still can’t find ongoing consistency (enough cliches in there?).
Madge has made loads of team changes throughout the season but I actually think that might be the way to go, a rotation policy of sorts. Yes it’s a risk of impacting combinations but maybe it’s the key to keeping a high level of intensity each week for this particular Group.

That & Packer for Captain!

He’s ruthless that won’t stop but someone has saved himself from himself.

His ruthlessness is wasted on some of these players he needs to be smart to maximise performance in the short term before he replaces them.

Interesting.
A similar story, i believe aired on 360 or Matty Johns podcast tells of Ben Teo in preseason 2014 telling Madge at an Army Camp that his done, I’m not going to do that, I’m stuffed.

Weren't enough available mirrors for Benny Cho's liking.

Honestly, I do know any team of workers who would forego end of week drinks because their company had posted a bad week. In fact, I reckon what most people would do is reach for the bottle. Now, these guys are professionals so they barely ever drink I'd think.

If this is true, Maguire has done the right thing. A modern leader listens to his people. I'm sure it's not the first time he's asked for their opinion and he definitely wouldn't always agree with what they want. Look at big sook Matto; he didn't want to train so hard and was shown the door. All of that said, perhaps Maguire needs to build more fun into his training or approach what he's doing differently. They can work even harder like some of you here want them to but if you're not working on the right things then you'll only make matters worse.

If I was on my way home from a 44-4 away loss the last thing I would want is beers and fake good times. I would be racking my brain over what the hell just happened. But that's just me. I'm just some pleb.

I like to think that this a “rock bottom” moment. One of those times where you just sort of know things can’t get any worse and the only way is up. Having a beer is kind of symbolic in the sense that everyone acknowledges it, gets over it and we can move on.

Perhaps I am overly optimistic but sometimes you need that moment to steel the resolve to improve

Sounds like it was organised before the game...nothing to see here.

A night out after the game with the team was something I always looked forward to. Win, lose or draw. It's good for team cohesion.

Agreed. I suggested somewhere else they should have been on the cans on Monday before ramping up the intensity, but Saturday night is even better.

Madge’s approach is perfect but in a perfect world the team that trains and plays the hardest has to party the hardest.

That’s the secret Dogs of War were the best all time at this. Play hard, Train hard, drink hard do everything hard and as a team.

Yeah, I don't think that's limited to footy either. I grew up through a trade and the demands of the job you were on and the weekend exploits were often proportional.

Bloody Fake news. Why can't they celebrate two legends 250 games. Nearly 99% of this forum have played not one game of NRL. Me for one build like a stick wouldn't make it through warm ups. Hope both retire at seasons end and post playing career have connection with the club as Ambassadors.

Dougie Walters drinker, smoker and legend cricketer. Our current team not in the same league. Walters, Marsh, Lillee, Hooked on the piss would have been great times.
