When players on salaries between 100,000k /900,000k start telling the coach to lighten up...its time they got a kick in the arse and told they are privelidged to play in the toughest comp in the world and start earning their paycheque...

GEE I WILL DRINK TO THAT..

It’s not about lightening up training - it’s about making sure the team enjoys themselves more on their off time together.

They’re either locked in their houses or training, at the very least when they have breaks the club should be making sure they’re having fun and in good spirits. It will go a long way towards helping the players attitude towards playing and training

Training will stay as hard as ever

Yah but what’s the odds Brooks still has a hangover this weekend ..

Hopefully he has an Irish background!

You reckon he’s still on the cans ?

No you miss interpret. You know how that say how Irish people are better at pool when their drunk.

Chuck a Dougie Walters you reckon?

Dougie Walters drinker, smoker and legend cricketer. Our current team not in the same league. Walters, Marsh, Lillee, Hooked on the piss would have been great times.

Scored his highest Test score after a Bidwill breakfast (3 longnecks.)

Real men back in the 70s played tough and drank tough not like some of these current day overpaid pretty boys.

Lightening up during the week is understandable and fine. On the trip home isn’t.

Agreed. They need to sit in that space and reflect on their individual performances so they can turn up ready to own it it at the debrief. Then sure make training a little less military and celebrate the good performances.

Last weekend I decided to have a drink for every tigers mistake.

They were lined up, I didn’t finish drinking until lunchtime Sunday and only got out of hospital this morning

If you didn't drop any you can play on the wing Sunday 😂

Bloody Fake news. Why can't they celebrate two legends 250 games. Nearly 99% of this forum have played not one game of NRL. Me for one build like a stick wouldn't make it through warm ups. Hope both retire at seasons end and post playing career have connection with the club as Ambassadors.

I would like to think that they both do as you say, they can still be in and around the club doing good work, but on field stuff should not be an option, unless they become our Alfie and run the water.
Sadly I don't think it will happen, not next year at least as Benji thinks he can play again

I think you missed a mistake or 2 if you finished drinking that quickly

Think this is the right way to approach things and nothing wrong with a few beers on the bus celebrating there teammates 250th game.
Light training session from footage they were enjoying.
Rather this consultative approach with the senior players, although a spray is warranted with some games it does not work all the time.
Also rather the spray be conducted away from the cameras as the commentators then have something to dribble on about.
Good read and very positive, lets see how they go against the Dogs this week.

Better than having the Pizza delivered after we lost to the Titans a few years back..Buckets forgot the Gluten free

Madge and Wests Tigers, as well as the psychology in rugby league being discussed on Matty John's Podcast for those interested.

Particularly loved Matty talking up a WT training session in 05. He also gave his viewpoint on Madge's training methods.

Gotta say I do enjoy Matty Johns when he actually talks serious footy and isn’t just trying to be a Clown. Is he a fan of Madge?

Obviously wording is a little different but more along the lines of:
Madge is instilling the correct training methods it takes to be a competitive NRL team. If players aren't up to it, they're not up to NRL standard. He's weeding out the weaknesses for the betterment of the club. Also spoke about Seibold undoing Madge's edge at bunnies.
Applied WT 05 training session in the convo by stating how impressive Sheens had the team, and that from talking to staff that day he'd learned Sheens previous year was more a warm up. Said he'd never witnessed anything more impressive.

And to answer your question @JoshColeman99 he loves the type of coach Madge is and thinks he's highly capable of turning the team around.

He said when he arrived at training in 2005 he couldn't believe how crisp the passes were, second man, block play out to Fats quick hands winger scores.
He said I was watching with Roycie, he said to Royce, if you can replicate this in a game, you can win the comp, Royce replied, we can do it in a game.
They then talked about Madge getting souths battle hardened made Seibold look good, brisbane were not as hard, and look where they are now, he had no plan B.
Also mentioned how he took Wigan from also rans to premiers and left them in a good state.
They then talked about Madge being too hard, Kenty said it is not as many players as is made out that are whinging, not many at all. He then said Madge is weeding out the players that can't handle the hard work.
Matty said, when he does this the club will be set up to play finals footy for a long time, they were speaking very highly of Madge and his work ethic and practices.
It was quite refreshing to hear some positive talk after all the usual media beat up we get.

Listen to his talk about teams playing within a structure as oppose to playing with principles.

Not sure if he still helps the storm out.. if he doesn't, I'd be trying to get him in to train our halves.
