I saw this the other day… The League's Club doesn't elect members to the WT board, the Balmain Football Club does. If the football club has an AGM this weekend, my notice must have got lost in the mail because I've seen nada. AFAIK the Football Club isnt having an AGM soon

You need to be a current financial member to vote

Im sure Yoss is aware of that Tottie

Hes making the point the article states its Balmain Leagues Club board elections, where its the Football club that has reps on WTs board.

I think its a typo in the article, either that or its a massive stuff up from Proszenko

Does the BLC board still exist and do they control Five Dock & Flemo now? Do Tigers own these establishments? If not do they have their own boards (doubtful-hard to see)

It's a stuff up Ink.It's definitely a BLC board election. I'm no expert on their structure these days but I'd think there is one board that runs both clubs based on what I've seen with other clubs who are part of "super clubs".

So the election on the weekend with have SFA to do with the WT Board. To the best of my knowledge there is no Football Club meeting - yes Tottie I am aware of the voting rules, I've been a member since the 1990s…

Where does it say that? They're two different clubs with two different sets of members. You can be a member of one and not the other. I looked at the release from the club in the OP and see nothing indicating it includes the Football Club. Unless things have changed dramatically this is not a Football Club AGM which are usually in March.

Ah okay I'm looking at the Football Club AGM notice now. My apologies - the OP had the other notice. As I said if I received notice in the mail it must have got lost. I've been busy with a new born so it's possible I missed it. If there was no mailed notice it's a bit disappointing. Some other people on here who are football club members might share their stories. There aren't that many members… I doubt I'll be able to make it on such short notice.

There are two meetings tomorrow. The first is for the Balmain Tigers Rugby League Football Club and starts at 9am. The second is for the Balmain Leagues Club and starts at 11.30am. They are both at Tigers Five Dock. Given the confusion in earlier posts regards the football club AGM I have posted the details below.

See you all there.

So, for the avoidance of all doubt, both meetings are tomorrow 3rd Aug. The Balmain Rugby League Football Club AGM starts 9.00am and the Balmain Leagues Club starts 11.30am.

I just got back from the Balmain Football Club AGM. It was the first in a number of years and after reading Mr Austin Hoyles letter that he sent to members I was ready to vote, however whilst Mr Hoyle was passionate about the club and has a long family history being a life member he was extremely rude and interruptive and I didn't feel was suitable to handle negotiations on any board.

3 members elected to board were: Leslie Hobbs, Garry Leo and Danny Stapleton.

2 people were made life members being Stephen Humphreys (he was absent as he is an Exec at British Airways now) and David Trodden (whom Mr Hoyle interrupted whilst Dr Glen was giving his speech introducing Mr Trodden).

Danny Stapleton and Warren McDonnell gave the football teams updates and they made mention of Scott Brooks (Im guessing Luke's brother??) whom is 15, a fullback and holds much promise. Also singled out the Wheelhouse brothers and a couple of others as ones to look out for.

Ric Sissons tried to obtain information from the club re financial positions and such but the board fell back on the 'confidentiality' requirements. We still do not have any advice as to when /if these details will be provided.

There is only around 1400 members of BDRLFC left which saddens me and I understand it is because of no direct voting rights in the club that people do this but jeepers guys. Surely there must be more than 1400 people in this country who care enough to pay $15 a year to support the Balmain Junior football club.

Lastly whilst I am disappointed in the lack of information that is provided by the club, I understand that most of the staff and directors all volunteer with next to no financial inducements.and commit tremendous amounts of their time to ensure that we still have some resemblance of a club. Please join up, visit Tigers Five Dock and Flemington Markets and lets build the base so one day we can rise again and at least have an entity playing in the NSW State Cup. I am a proud Wests Tigers supporter but I also want to keep Balmain Tigers alive so that my future kids have a pathway all the way to reserve grade.

If

If more ex balmain fans and wt fans joined the football club they could have some (minimal) say in how things unfold in the WT board. However no one bothers so the numbers drop. I would assume its the same at the magpies as well.

Thanks for the run down. I didn't get a letter from Hoyle and it sounds like a lack of respect to interupt someone like Leslie Glen… What was the turnout like AA? Are they actually putting on some refreshments these days? It's a shame Stephen Humphries couldn't be there - his old man used to be there every year.

Hi Yoss, there was about 150 odd people. The most anyone got was 125 odd votes from memory so it doesnt take much support to get elected as a director… Maybe one day, once I have completed my degree and if the club is still active I will nominate myself but not unless I can actively contribute. Though judging by the turnout I dont believe there to be many Balmain members under 50 so not sure what future there is?

Refreshments was coffee and water from what I saw.

One thing I forgot was there was a question from Mr Hoyle re how was Nick Di Girolamo appointed. The board were all quick to back him but they failed to bother to check when they self appointed him as a director without a members vote that he hadn't been a paid member for 3 consecutive years as per the constitution. Thankfully he was forced to resign.

I think most fans just want some transparency but judging by the AGM we just have to 'again' put our trust in the current board and hope that some mysterious benefactor may appear. Surely a crowdfunding venture could be put forward to raise some funds to clear debt? I however, dont think a board that isnt paid are going to spend too much time on any foresight, they are just putting out fires as and when they appear.

Just curious, is that 1400 members of Leagues Club or of Balmain Football Club?

_Posted using RoarFEED V.4_

wtfl1981 1400 active members of the Football club.

I didnt stay for the leagues club AGM as 2.5 hours was enough for me lol

Thanks Angry. I know someone from the forum planned to or did run a couple of years back (I don't want to do a Gordie and out them!). I've thought about running but like you I just don't have the time to do it and it's pretty hard to get votes when you're running against fairly well known incumbents.

Coffee is a start. It astonishes me that they can't do a little better on those things given the limited numbers.

Girolamo I imagine was one of those "business" appointments that don't go to a members vote. I'd imagine the rules about membership don't apply. As you say thankfully he's gone.

There was an additional article in today's Herald that implies the benefactor is still around and his? focus is on a new club. You'd think there comes a time when the current owners can't keep haemorrhaging the sort of cash they and seek to cut their losses. I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd be happy to kick in cash but that's a lot of money. To be fair the current board members aren't really in a position to do much with the cards they have. From purely a football POV things are going pretty well although a team in the RMC would be nice. The juniors are in excellent shape all things considered.
