Holman Barnes Group

Dear Members and Friends,

We’re excited to officially announce our plans for the new Balmain Leagues Club.

The Club will form part of the newly designed Rozelle Village by developer Heworth. The development will focus on a new Town Square, public plaza and major retail and hospitality podium connected by a series of laneways.

The new plans are going to considerably contribute to Rozelle and become a major community meeting place and destination.

With the former Balmain Leagues Club closing its doors in 2010, this redevelopment has been years in the making. We’re all very much looking forward to the delivery of a new state-of-the-art facility that our members can enjoy.

Construction is planned to commence in mid-2023 with completion due by 2025. We will continue to provide updates on the site progress in the interim.

Good chance to develop a Wests Tigers Leagues club. Calling it Balmain would be a huge misstep imo.
a wests leagues club would be good
Then again reserve grade called Magpies, so if the Holman Barnes group want to keep a reference to balmain they can I guess
I think if reserve grade is changed to wests tigers like nrl team then no reason for club not to be renamed wests tigers.

either way it will be a asset to the group and should be quiet popular

While I agree we should get a club called Wests Tigers Leagues Club, it would be hard to determine where to build it since we don’t have one home ground. Next year pending LO gets the upgrades the plan is to use LO and CS as our home grounds no more BankWest or whatever its called now. It makes sense IMO to bring it back as Balmain even though they aren’t in first grade anymore as Balmain. If we ever go the one home ground road we then should build one but until we do it’ll be hard to do that to keep both fans of the merge happy. Unless we just build 2 clubs in both the Inner West and MacArthur regions. But I don’t see that happening.

I think Wests Tigers - Balmain would be good. Also remember the purpose of the club was not/is not solely to provide funds to operate an NRL team, it’s also to run the junior district stuff. Wests Tigers - Balmain I personally feel would brand it as the Balmain subdivision of the Wests Tigers group.

2 leagues clubs you mean? Well there will be two in the inner west if this happens. I don’t think it’s far fetched to imagine Wests Campbelltown or indeed Wests Ashfield opening a new club in the Narellan-Picton area. Every time I drive to Canberra there’s a new housing development going up! Those people should have the same rights to be decimated by pokies as the rest of the state.

Interesting that Penrith use Panthers name for all their clubs so maybe just Tigers will do coz whether it’s Wests or Balmain ultimately we are the Tigers now so seems logical to me.

I don't really have an opinion in regard to the Balmain club other than it was an icon that was treated badly, however the importance for me is that we still have Balmain juniors and the name should continue as it defines our development areas..

One of its major trading problems was Star City Casino being so close, that hasn’t changed, so will need to be run lean and mean.
Balmain development would still come under Tigers name. We must move on from the differentiating. We are one, but we are many !

They should have an individual Western Suburb Magpies and Balmain Tigers club house individual from each other that has all memorabilia shown during that time.

Then ultimately, after awhile... have a Wests Tigers club house.

imagine the pokie revenue from degens..

They are one club. One name

We are the combination of two proud clubs. Callings the clubs 'Tigers' would just be too much for the Wests side to handle, especially when they're paying the bills.

Sorry BB but we were two prod clubs, now we are one.
Penrith have used the Panthers brand, rather than Penrith for their clubs, because it caters to supporters everywhere, eg Bathurst, Port Macquarie etc.
I’m afraid, at some point, all us old supporters have to let go and move on. And as for paying the bills, that’s just a fact of life.
