Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers Side Vs Bankstown City Bulls

The bulls looked like a side too good for the division they're in. At times they looked great , then they just looked bored. No offence to our guys but it was hardly a contest i thought.

Tigers lost 22-48\. Bulls are by far the best side in the State Cup.
Tigers were always trailing and Bulls looked in control. They were too big, too quick and too strong out wide.
Tries to Tigers: Bennett, Lane, Carr and Mataka. Lewis kicked 2 conversions.
Changes to side: White and Lane played on the wings (replacing Callaway and Parata), Schirnack and Ryan came into starting side, Vunakace to bench.
The Bulls side included the following players with first grade experience: Barba, Millard, Utai, Holdsworth, Sullivan, Morrin, Te Maari and Briggs.
Tigers competed hard. Gower made some good breaks in the second half; Mataka did well and Lewis' kicking game gave the side some territorial gains and was threatening from bombs.

The Bulls team will be hard to beat this season unless injuries strike the Bulldogs NRL team. Otherwise 90% of the 17 selected every week will have top grade experience. They still have the likes of Hickey, Cutler, Kite and possibly Gordon to come into the 17.

The Bulls would probably have enough in them to knock off the Sharks or the Roosters NRL sides i think. They run hard,Had good 2nd phase play and defensivley stopped BRET on a number of occasions when it looked like they would score.

The Bulls are a very good side.

No excuses for the Tigers though. It was a terrible display. No urgency shown for the loose ball on the ground, no defensive line speed.

Gower was not good, nor was Farlow but they were not alone.

Time to re-group and get ready to face a resurgent Shellharbour at their home ground

Have to agree completely. Farlow was ordinary along with Gower and Mataka. It was good to have Schirnack back he tried hard. No-one really shone for us too many mistakes.

Report from Leichhardt Oval…...lollylegs not as potent as usual.

Lollylegs caught Barba by surprise for this first kick - he missed from close in but after that most tries were scored within range.

But there is only so much Lollylegs can do!

Maybe.

But I also don't think it was a conincidence that Gower, Farlow and Carr were all off at the end of the game. It was gone and we have a must win this coming week to put the season on track.

That and I am not sure if Carr was well. His talk levels were right down and he just looked a little flat. To be expected though as he runs himself to a standstill most every week

**NSW State Cup, Round 18**
Despite the 26 point difference both the Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers and Bankstown Bulls showed flair and creativity when controlling the ball and character in defence, if not their usual brilliance. Its just that the Bulls had 3 times as much possession with which to show that flair.

The Bulls took the early lead in Saturdays NSW Cup match at Leichhardt, getting 16 points in front, from tries by Heka Nanai, Lee Te Maari) and Daniel Holdsworth, all which came without giving up a set of possession within 12 minutes. This accomplishment had a series of helping hands from both the tenacity of the Bulls to ride the momentum of their tries and keep the intensity high, and the Tigers penalties at crucial moments.

Youngster BEN BARBA was a pivotal for the Bulls, kicking 5 goals, scoring once and setting up several others. Although he was first unhinged by the passion of the Leichhardt diehards jeers.

When in possession the Tigers took the game to the Bulls enough so that the crowd was constantly kept open of the possibility of a comeback, especially because of the result of their first encounter this season when the Tigers came back from 16 down to win by 8 in the last 16 minutes.

Willie Mataka scored first for the Tigers with a solid wrestle to finish off the hard work of Rhys Hanbury who broke for 25 metres for midfield, 6 - 16.

But then the Bulls took a 90 metre runaway try and again managed to hold the ball for 9 consecutive minutes with 3 sets and a follow up try by Daniel Holdsworth when he took a nice inside pass from 20 metres out as the Tigers were scrambling to form their line, 28 - 6.

5 minutes before half time Ryan Carr kept the glimmer of hope alive when he dived over the line from dummy half to get the Tigers to 12 - 28 going into half time.

But it only took the Bulls 6 minutes to squash any real chance Balmain had when they once again took control of the game and scored twice to get 24 points in front, 12 - 40\. The Tigers did come back with a duo of tries of their own, the first by Lee Bennett who took a cross from Sean Meaney and the second when Brett Lane tip-toed to stay in as he caught a long kick in the depth of the Bulls goal area, 22 - 40.

But they were concession tries as the gap was just too big for the Tigers to hope to close when they held such little possession. Tigers Coach Paul Fletcher wasn't disappointed so much in his team's performance "they played well when they had the ball, it's just the same trap we fell into earlier in the season where we tire out early from defending for so much of the game."

This win keeps the Bulls on the top of the ladder and pushes the Tigers down one place to 6th, making next week's game against the Dragons in Shell Harbour vital. The game is on Sunday at Shellharbour, kick off is at 3.30pm.

**Kiki and Sassy at Leichhardt Oval**
Monday, 03rd August 2009
While we admit we've spent a few Saturdays watching the Newtown Jets go round at Henson Park, there are a few grounds we've still never been to. Call us reggies novices, if you like. So Leichhardt on a Saturday afternoon was new to us. But after one visit we can safely say there is so much to love. In fact it might be shorter to list what we don't love: namely, the fact that there are only hot dogs available, and not sausage sandwiches. Is it just us, or is that straight-up un-Australian? (The answer is yes).
>
But let's talk positives. For one thing, we love a water-adjacent stadium. Especially a water-adjacent stadium where they play fierce soul music like Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin as the players warm up. We may have shimmied our way into Leichhardt, shaking our lil orange tickets like crowd members on Soul Train. Andrew Ryan was standing in the crowd and eyed us suspiciously.
>
**We also love the Balmain Tigers faithful on the hill, yelling inspirational phrases like "unleash your hate!" and taunt the opposition goal-kicker with their masculine chorus of "lolly-legssss …. lolly-legsssss". On the afternoon we watched the Tiges it worked a treat on Ben Barba. His first kick missed the goals by a mile and his face was one of shock and confusion.**
We also adore the ground announcer, who updates the score for the home team, the score for the away team, and the score for the boys on the hill, based on just how many kicks at goal they have managed to thwart.
>
And it's safe to say that, as NSW fans, we totally relate to the Tigers' intense love-hate relationship with their neighbours and first-grade partners, the Wests Magpies. Word around the grandstand is that for most of the season the two teams are friendly neighbours, with Tim Sheens dropping in on both sides, players transferring clubs, and the two sharing cups of sugar, throwing street parties and generally having a big old love-in.
>
But when they clash on the field, it's like a fight between brothers, full of intensity ... and replete with some ferocious punch-ups. In our minds, it's a whole field full of NSW Cup players punching with the fury of Robbie Farah.
>
As for the crowd, we think it's lovely that the first-grade Wests Tigers turn out to support their NSW Cup teammates.
>
On the day we happened to rock up, the Tigers were facing up against a pretty schmick-looking Bankstown Bulls side. Every second name was familiar from the first-grade roster. But the black and gold pulled off an impressive 22 points, mostly in the second half, and had us definitely considering Tigers fandom for the rest of the season. More importantly, the 22 points made the opposition coach verrrry nervous. And by the opposition coach, we mean Terry Lamb. You know you've got something when you worry Terry Lamb.
>
And perhaps our very favourite thing on our list of Things We Love About the Balmain Tigers is that they seem to have a shirtless interview policy. We chatted all things Balmain with two shirtless players, and one dripping wet member of the Balmain halves wearing only a towel. That's our kinda club.

Next time: Kiki and Sassy meet the Wentworthville Magpies.

OK....think you blokes have been holding out....What do Kiki And Sassy look like.....

They have interesting fashion sense.

Other than that I was too busy insulting sideline officials to notice, sorry

I have heard them talking footy on the radio before. They seem pretty knowledgeable. They also post on League Unlimited. They seem nice enough.

I'm not to sure about this love-hate relationship with balmain though. I think it's just hate-hate :-b
