Paranoia about Perth again? Do people actually pay attention to the dribble that Buzz writes? Seriously?

Balmain Tigers and Wests Magpies both left the NRL in 1999 and won't be seen again at that level. Let them focus on juniors and live on in the community.

Any changes might only happen at board level. **Who here can name anyone on our board, other than Go, without googling them?**

The board are taking the club into the future, people need to leave the past where it belongs. It would create such a huge mess and divide the club, and probably destroy it, if all that bickering gets dredged up again.

That's why Balmain v Wests should be left in the past and possibly even banned from discussion. Why continue to promote disharmony amongst the fan base?

I can …Marina Go (Chair) Lucio Di Bartololeo (ind) Rosemary Sinclair (Ind) Simon Cook (Wests) Tony Andreacchio (Wests)...

I have not got a crystal ball, but now matter what happens to Balmain, there will be a Weststigers and no matter who takes up the funding of the franchise it will be still called the Weststigers and you would imagine it has a 99,9% chance of either being located in the South West of Sydney or its present location of both the inner west and the south west.

Its not a Wests vrs Balmain thing, its all about getting the Weststigers in the strongest position so they can compete with the big boys. So if Balmain can not meet their financial obligations, its time to seek someone who can

If Balmain cannot contribute financially to the JV, I hope we can bring in a new JV partner with deep pockets.

I’m surprised, however, that some old Magpie supporters have suggested that if Wests gained control they might revert to the Wests Magpies.

It’s obvious that this would alienate a large portion of our supporter base.

But that’s not the only reason this suggestion fills me with concern.

I started following the Magpies in the late 1950s. And how many premierships did the Magpies win over the 40+ years I followed them? I’ll tell you – a big fat zero!

Some people seem to overlook the fact that we reluctantly entered the JV for a very good reason. We had been mediocre for quite a while and were struggling financially.

I know things have not been rosy for the WT of late but, carefully managed, I can see a bright future for our team.

I’m a rusted-on WT fan now, and I don’t want to go back to the bad old days.

Same here Fibro, I started following Balmain as a 4 year old in 1989, apart from losing a grand final we did little to nothing. The WT gave both old sets of fans something that looked like it was never going to eventuate. I've been a Wests (Tigers) fan longer than Balmain now, I wouldn't change the WT back for anything, even if it meant Balmain coming back.

Well said!!! Finally a Wests Tigers supporter with Magpie roots that speaks some sense and not "bring back the magpies" jibber like some I've read

There's plenty of ex-Maggies who have embraced the JV and would continue to support it. Don't let the vocal minority paint a picture for all of them.

Absolutely!!! I have noticed it's a small minority that still are living in the past… It's good to see so many embrace the JV. The Wests Tigers need our support and have mine 100%, I for one am really optimistic and looking forward to our season ahead

GCT,we were even selling the Tigers jumpers when Hoppa done the deed….the Tiger sells, players like Benji are a bonus, just ask the Cowboys fans with golden haired JT,and he certainly can play the game.....

Still think that a successful team and players like Benjii are what sells jumpersTT.
Would love to see the figures on all clubs jumper sales, I think that it would be the sucessfull teams that sell the most and the emblems make very little difference
Not saying that it's unpopular, just that it doesn't have a big influence on money coming into the club
Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on the emblem bit.
Not sure what you meant about Thurston though

I was saying that although Benji was the face of the Tigers and his popularity sold merchandise, and that goes for Thurston as well…The Tiger emblem itself sells very well..even when we had Hoppa doing the wrong thing in this sport, our merchandise still sold well...the Tiger brand is a marketable product, and the NRL know it...thats all I was trying to say GCT..I hope you didnt take it as having a go at you ,not at all..

No I didn't think that TT.
I thought the reference to Thurston was that he was in a similar position to Marshall. Just wasn't sure if that's what you meant.
We have different opinions on the value of the individual emblems. I don't know which of us is right , but I still differ in that I think that supporters buy jumpers for the fact that they're the same as their team wears. And if a team kept the overall Jumper and changed only their emblem, I dont think it would make much difference to their numbers sold.
I think that the public is so used to teams jumpers being changed so ridiculously often that it's more of a fashion statement to some
No doubt some would be cheesed off with a change of emblem, but I think that for most, it would only rake a big year on the field to get over it.
I still haven't seen any evidence of the emblem helping us to be better off over the life of the WTs, except 2005
As I said well have to agree to disagree on this one.

Finally? Most of us feel this way. You probably see our posts as coming from a wests tigers fan though. Not all wests tigers fans are purely from the Balmain side.

Regardless of what happens with Balmain, the Wests Tigers will continue in the NRL.

Balmain and Wests as they were, united as one to create the Wests Tigers, both parent clubs have great HISTORICAL value as far as the JV goes, but Wests Tigers will grow and be a great club of its own in the near future,In reality, a fantastic creation by two fantastic FOUNDATION clubs….which ever side you were part of or supported wholeheartedly, you should be proud that you were part of the two historical clubs and now WE should support this child of the two great clubs....that's how I see it...and I love wearing my Wests Tigers jumper featuring a Tiger and a Magpie....

I've posted it before ages ago but school mate of mine when he was at uni doing his business marketing degree it came up about sports in Australia and most marketable teams/logos. The tiger (rugby league variant) is in the top 3-4 can't remember exactly, most marketable sporting brands in this country. This killed him being a diehard dragons man!

The NRL aren't stupid no matter who's running the game, to think they will give away a marketing position like that to rehash an old team is a fantasy at best.

As for the original topic at hand, i don't want to see balmain die but it seems as though they're just shuffling deck chairs on the titanic.
