Balmain & Western Suburbs Junior Rep Teams 2011

Want to make comment on the Balmain Tigers SG Ball side this season.

Balin and Craig have done an admirable job given the injuries suffered during the year to key players and players who perhaps didn't step up when the question was asked of them, not to mention the tough draw they had.

Well Done Tigers

Full Time (Harold Matthews) Newcastle Knights 32 def. Western Suburbs Magpies 8

Full Time (SG Ball) Canberra Raiders 41 def. Western Suburbs Magpies 30

Dissapointing for the Magpies Ball side but realistically Canberra are one of those sides that can turn it on out of nowhere

Do Wests get a second bite at the cherry for finishing as minor premiers?

I don`t think so, out they go.
Good news is that a couple of them should step up & help strengthen the Wests Tigers U/20`s side.

I'd like to watch the SG Ball game again before I say too much, but IMO the Magpies were rorted that many times it isnt funny. Tough loss to take. Good luck to the boys for the future.

The only two that deserve to go up are **James Tedesco** and **David Nofoaluma**..those two have tryed their hearts out every week for the Wests SG Ball team.

What was exposed today was the lack of forward strength… the lack of organisational skills and flair of the halves and once again the lack of defensive capabilities of the left side defenders.
The forward pack..how can I be kind...got very tired today.. If none of them can cope with playing 15- 20 minutes at SG Ball level then U20's is out of the question.

I totally agree. Canberra ran us around today and by the mid point of each half we were cactus up the guts. As for dealing with the high ball, well that was kind of comical. Tedesco and Nofoaluma were the stars as mentioned by black and white, I also thought the 12, Shane .L. tried his guts out down the right edge. But finishing first and being knocked out by eighth (who only made it because Penrith were upset last round by Western Australia) was hard to take … mind you, being a long time Wests supporter it's kind of what you expect in a knock out semi ... ho hum.

It must be disappointing missing out 2 years in a row from the number 1 spot but you guys must be doing something right to get to that position, Balmain could be so lucky just to make the semis. I think going in against 8th could be the reason you performed so badly as you would expect an easy win, also having an easy draw coming into the semis can make it difficult to get UP for a big game. I must admit I was a bit shocked when told of the result.

Better luck next year guys.

I think that's being a bit harsh on the Balmain guys flash. They had a very good side this year, and possibly the hardest draw imaginable, but just cane up short. I reckon if they swapped the draw, Balmain would have made the semis easy, whilst Wests would have got in the lower half of the 8.

On the Magpies, they had a relatively soft draw, and whilst the talent in the side is clear to see, this may have been a factor in them going out straight up.

How do you work out I was being harsh on the Balmain side, believe me I could be with some of the decisions that were made this year.

they should use the macintyre system. its ridiculous that u can get knocked out week 1 of the finals if u finish 1st

Some people are quite fickle. :blah :blah

I agree Wests had an easier draw than some teams. Yet they still played 3 sides that made the finals and another that just missed. They beat two and just missed against the other on a week where changes were being made and experimented with. They went to Melbourne and overcame a huge deficiet just after halftime to win.

James Tedesco is a star in the making. Nofoaluma is hot and cold and needs to check his attitude. Billy Kitt will play Ball again next year. He too will go a long way if he keeps the path he's on now.

There are alot of forwards in yesterdays side that will make it further…perhaps not with Wests Tigers.

The attitude was there. They were fit and were ready to roll. I know this for fact. But if the referree/touchies put you under the pressure those boys were put under yesterday, you too would get tired. They kept coming though, had a couple of tries disallowed and fell short by a couple of tries.

Tough way to bow out. Good luck to them all.

There are lot of things that are unfair with the junior reps starting with the draw. All teams should be seeded based on the previous years SG Ball results and divided into 2 groups (odds and evens) who all play each other with little cross over of groups. This would ensure that everyone will have 4 or 5 hard games and 4 or 5 easy games. Balmain case in point missing out on for and against after playing all of the better teams and Canberra making the 8 after having an easy draw. Agree that the Macintyre system should also be used.

Balmain have now played Parramatta 4 years in a row AWAY, what a joke.

how can it be semi finals already anyway? its only april! couldnt they make it so every team plays each other once? make the season a bit longer!

Agreed…They make the season shorter so the boys can go back and contribute to their respective junior leagues.

I say they should all play each other once....I like the seeding idea too.

I agree MM - no excuses for Balmain & the very best of luck to our partners in crime!!!!!

(I am disappointed for Balmain - but they weren't good enough when push came to shove!!)

What is important is that the Wests Tigers retain the cream of the crop from both sides!!

I know its difficult and it probably won't ever happen but I wonder how A combined Balmain/Wests under 18's team would have gone ?

The likes of Lovett, Moses, Batiste and Mahe mixing in with Tedesco, Nofoaluma, Fiagatusa and Lalogafusa…....Easy draw or no easy draw....they would have been hard to beat.
